20 When you come together, then, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper.(A) 21 For at the meal, each one eats his own supper.[a] So one person is hungry while another gets drunk! 22 Don’t you have homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you in this matter!

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:(B) On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said,[b] “This is my body, which is[c] for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”(C)

25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant(D) in my blood.(E) Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death(F) until he comes.(G)

Self-Examination

27 So, then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sin against the body[d] and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself; in this way let him eat the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body,[e] eats and drinks judgment(H) on himself.

Jesus’s Third Appearance to the Disciples

21 After this, Jesus revealed(A) himself again to his disciples by the Sea of Tiberias.[a](B) He revealed himself in this way:

Simon Peter,(C) Thomas(D) (called “Twin”[b]), Nathanael(E) from Cana of Galilee,(F) Zebedee’s(G) sons, and two others of his disciples were together.

“I’m going fishing,” Simon Peter said to them.

“We’re coming with you,” they told him. They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.(H)

When daybreak came, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not know it was Jesus.(I) “Friends,”[c] Jesus called to them, “you don’t have any fish, do you?”

“No,” they answered.

“Cast the net on the right side of the boat,” he told them, “and you’ll find some.” So they did,[d] and they were unable to haul it in because of the large number of fish. The disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” (J)

When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer clothing around him (for he had taken it off) and plunged into the sea. Since they were not far from land (about a hundred yards[e](K) away), the other disciples came in the boat,(L) dragging the net full of fish.

When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish lying on it, and bread. 10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus told them. 11 So Simon Peter climbed up and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish—153 of them. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.(M)

12 “Come and have breakfast,” Jesus told them. None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish.
