16 Now I did baptize also the (A)household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 (B)For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to proclaim the gospel, (C)not in wisdom of word, so that the cross of Christ will not be made empty.

18 For the word of the cross is (D)foolishness to (E)those who [a]are perishing, but to us who [b]are being saved, it is (F)the power of God.

17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
