The Ark Comes to Jerusalem
15 David built houses for himself in the city of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.(A) 2 Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister before him forever.”(B)
3 David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem(C) to bring the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it.(D) 4 Then he gathered together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:
5 From the Kohathites, Uriel the leader and 120 of his relatives; 6 from the Merarites, Asaiah the leader and 220 of his relatives; 7 from the Gershomites,[a] Joel the leader and 130 of his relatives; 8 from the Elizaphanites, Shemaiah the leader and 200 of his relatives; 9 from the Hebronites, Eliel the leader and 80 of his relatives; 10 from the Uzzielites, Amminadab the leader and 112 of his relatives.
11 David summoned the priests Zadok(E) and Abiathar(F) and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab. 12 He said to them, “You are the heads of the Levite families. You and your relatives must consecrate yourselves(G) so that you may bring the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it.(H) 13 For the Lord our God burst out in anger against us because you Levites were not with us the first time, for we didn’t inquire of him about the proper procedures.”(I) 14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel. 15 Then the Levites carried the ark of God the way Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord: on their shoulders with the poles.(J)
16 Then David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their relatives as singers and to have them raise their voices with joy accompanied by musical instruments—harps, lyres, and cymbals.(K) 17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his relatives, Asaph son of Berechiah; and from their relatives the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah. 18 With them were their relatives second in rank: Zechariah, Jaaziel,[b] Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and the gatekeepers Obed-edom and Jeiel. 19 The singers Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals; 20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play harps according to Alamoth[c] 21 and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to lead the music with lyres according to the Sheminith. 22 Chenaniah, the leader of the Levites in music, was to direct the music because he was skillful. 23 Berechiah and Elkanah were to be gatekeepers for the ark. 24 The priests, Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, were to blow trumpets(L) before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah were also to be gatekeepers for the ark.
25 David,(M) the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went with rejoicing to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-edom.(N) 26 Because God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, with God’s help, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.(O)
27 Now David was dressed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, as well as the singers and Chenaniah, the music leader of the singers. David also wore a linen ephod. 28 So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouts, the sound of the ram’s horn, trumpets, and cymbals, and the playing of harps and lyres. 29 As the ark of the covenant of the Lord was entering the city of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping[d] and dancing, and she despised him in her heart.

15 Davide si costrui delle case nella città di Davide, preparò un posto per l'arca di DIO ed eresse una tenda per essa.
2 Allora Davide disse: «Nessuno deve portare l'arca di DIO all'infuori dei Leviti perché l'Eterno ha scelto loro per portare l'arca di DIO e per servirlo per sempre».
3 Davide radunò tutto Israele a Gerusalemme, per trasportare l'arca dell'Eterno nel luogo che le aveva preparato.
4 Davide radunò pure i figli di Aaronne e i Leviti.
5 Dei figli di Kehath, Uriel, il capo, e i suoi centoventi fratelli
6 dei figli di Merari, Asaiah, il capo, e i suoi duecentoventi fratelli;
7 dei figli di Ghershom, Joel, il capo, e i suoi centotrenta fratelli;
8 dei figli di Elitsafan, Scemaiah, il capo, e i suoi duecento fratelli;
9 dei figli di Hebron, Eliel, il capo, e i suoi ottanta fratelli;
10 dei figli di Uzziel, Amminadab, il capo, e i suoi centododici fratelli.
11 Quindi Davide chiamò i sacerdoti Tsadok e Abiathar, e i Leviti Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Scemaiah, Eliel e Amminadab,
12 e disse loro: «Voi siete i capi delle case paterne dei Leviti; santificatevi, voi e i vostri fratelli, affinché possiate trasportare l'arca dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, nel posto che io le ho preparato.
13 Poiché la prima volta voi non c'eravate e l'Eterno, il nostro DIO, aperse una breccia fra noi, perché non lo avevamo cercato secondo le regole stabilite».
14 Cosí i sacerdoti e i Leviti si santificarono per trasportare l'arca dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.
15 I figli dei Leviti portarono l'arca di DIO sulle loro spalle per mezzo di stanghe, come aveva ordinato Mosè secondo la parola dell'Eterno.
16 Davide ordinò quindi ai capi dei Leviti di designare i loro fratelli cantori con strumenti musicali, arpe, cetre e cembali per alzare suoni di gioia.
17 Perciò i Leviti designarono Heman, figlio di Joel, tra i suoi fratelli, Asaf, figlio di Berekiah, e tra i figli di Merari, loro fratelli, Ethan, figlio di Kushaiah.
18 Con loro c'erano i loro fratelli della classe successiva: Zaccaria, Ben, Jaaziel, Scemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Elifalehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom e Jeiel, i portinai.
19 I cantori Heman, Asaf ed Ethan, per suonare usavano cembali di bronzo;
20 Zaccaria, Aziel, Scemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah e Benaiah suonavano arpe per voci di soprano;
21 Mattithiah, Elifalehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel e Azaziah suonavano cetre sull'ottava per guidare il canto;
22 Kenaniah, capo dei Leviti, era incaricato del canto; egli dirigeva il canto, perché competente in questo.
23 Berekiah e Elkanah erano portinai presso l'arca.
24 I sacerdoti Scebarniah, Joshafat, Nethaneel, Amasai, Zaccaria, Benaiah e Eliezer, suonavano le trombe davanti all'arca di DIO, mentre Obed-Edom e Jehijah fungevano da portinai presso l'arca.
25 Allora Davide, gli anziani, d'Israele e i capi di migliaia procedettero con gioia a trasportare l'arca del patto dell'Eterno dalla casa di Obed-Edom.
26 Cosí, poiché DIO prestò assistenza ai Leviti, che portavano l'arca del patto dell'Eterno, si offrirono in sacrificio sette torelli e sette montoni.
27 Davide indossava un manto di lino fino, come pure tutti i Leviti che portavano l'arca, i cantori e Kenaniah, capo del canto assieme ai cantori; Davide indossava inoltre un efod di lino.
28 Cosí tutto Israele portò su l'arca del patto dell'Eterno con grida di giubilo e al suono di corni, di trombe, di cembali, di cetre e di arpe.
29 Or avvenne che, mentre l'arca del patto dell'Eterno giunse alla città di Davide, Mikal, figlia di Saul, guardando dalla finestra, vide il re Davide che danzava e saltava, e lo disprezzò in cuor suo.
