¹⁷Shem’s descendants were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.^[a] ¹⁸Arpachshad fathered Shelah and Shelah fathered Eber. ¹⁹Eber fathered two sons. The name of the one was Peleg (because the earth was divided during his lifetime) and his brother was named Joktan.
