Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

¹⁶^(A)“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and ^(B)again a little while, and you will see me.” ¹⁷So ^(C)some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ^(D)‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ^(E)‘because I am going to the Father’?” ¹⁸So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? ^(F)We do not know what he is talking about.” ¹⁹^(G)Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? ²⁰Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(H)you will weep and lament, but ^(I)the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but ^(J)your sorrow will turn into joy. ²¹^(K)When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. ²²^(L)So also you have sorrow now, but ^(M)I will see you again, and ^(N)your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. ²³^(O)In that day you will ^(P)ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(Q)whatever you ask of the Father in my name, ^(R)he will give it to you. ²⁴Until now you have asked nothing in my name. ^(S)Ask, and you will receive, ^(T)that your joy may be full.

How Awesome Are Your Deeds

To the choirmaster. A Song. A Psalm.

66 ^(A)Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
²    sing the glory of his name;
    ^(B)give to him glorious praise!
³Say to God, ^(C)“How awesome are your deeds!
    So great is your power that your enemies ^(D)come cringing to you.
⁴^(E)All the earth worships you
    and sings praises to you;
    they sing praises to your name.” Selah

⁵^(F)Come and see what God has done:
    ^(G)he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.
⁶He ^(H)turned the sea into dry land;
    they ^(I)passed through the river on foot.
There did we rejoice in him,
⁷    who rules by his might forever,
whose ^(J)eyes keep watch on the nations—
    let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

⁸Bless our God, O peoples;
    let the sound of his praise be heard,
⁹who has kept our soul among the living
    and ^(K)has not let our feet slip.
¹⁰For you, O God, have ^(L)tested us;
    you have tried us as silver is tried.
¹¹You brought us into ^(M)the net;
    you laid a crushing burden on our backs;
¹²you let men ^(N)ride over our heads;
    we went through fire and through ^(O)water;
yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.

¹³I will come into your house with burnt offerings;
    I will ^(P)perform my vows to you,
¹⁴that which my lips uttered
    and my mouth promised ^(Q)when I was in trouble.
¹⁵I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals,
    with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams;
I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah

¹⁶^(R)Come and hear, all you who fear God,
    and I will tell what he has done for my soul.
¹⁷I cried to him with my mouth,
    and high praise was on^[a] my tongue.^[b]
¹⁸If I had ^(S)cherished iniquity in my heart,
    ^(T)the Lord would not have listened.
¹⁹But truly ^(U)God has listened;
    he has attended to the voice of my prayer.
