8 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “파라오에게 가서 전하여라. ‘나 주가 말한다. 내 백성을 보내어 그들이 나에게 예배드리게 하여라. 2 그러나 만약 네가 거절하면 온 이집트 땅에 개구리가 들끓게 하겠다. 3 나일 강에는 개구리가 득실거릴 것이다. 그리고 네 궁궐과 네 침실과 침대에도 기어 올라갈 것이다. 네 신하들과 백성들의 집에도 우글거릴 것이다. 네 화덕과 빵 반죽 그릇에도 들어갈 것이다. 4 개구리들은 너와 네 백성과 네 모든 신하에게 뛰어 오를 것이다.’”
5 그리고 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “아론에게 전하여라. ‘지팡이를 든 손을 강들과 나일 강으로 흘러 들어오는 시내들과 못들 위로 뻗어라. 그렇게 하여 개구리들이 이집트 온 땅에 올라가게 하여라.’”
6 그리하여 아론이 이집트의 물 위로 팔을 뻗으니 개구리들이 올라와 온 땅을 뒤덮었다.
7 그러나 마술사들도 마법을 써서 똑같이 하였다. 그들도 개구리들을 이집트 땅 위로 올라오게 하였다.
8 파라오가 모세와 아론을 불러 말하였다. “주께 기도하여 개구리들이 나와 내 백성에게서 물러가게 하여라. 그러면 이스라엘 사람들을 보내어 주께 희생제물을 바치게 해 주겠다.”
9 모세가 파라오에게 말하였다. “임금님께서 제가 기도할 시간을 정해 주십시오. 그러면 제가 임금님과 임금님의 신하들과 백성들을 위해서 기도하겠습니다. 개구리들이 임금님과 임금님의 궁궐에서 물러가고 오직 나일 강에서만 살도록 하겠습니다.”
10 파라오가 대답하였다. “내일 기도하여라.”
모세가 대답하였다. “말씀하신 대로 하여 우리 주 하나님과 같으신 분이 없다는 것을 알게 해 드리겠습니다. 11 이제 개구리들이 임금님과 임금님의 궁전과 신하들과 백성들에게서 물러갈 것입니다. 그리고 나일 강 안에서만 살 것입니다.”
12 모세와 아론이 파라오 앞에서 물러나왔다. 모세는 파라오를 벌하시려고 주께서 보내신 개구리들을 없애 달라고 주께 기도하였다. 13 주께서 모세가 기도한 대로 해 주셨다. 집과 뜰과 들판에 우글대던 개구리들이 다 죽었다. 14 사람들이 죽은 개구리들을 모아 무더기로 쌓아놓으니 고약한 냄새가 온 땅에 가득하였다. 15 이렇게 한시름 놓게 되자, 주께서 말씀하신 대로 파라오는 또 다시 마음을 굳게 하여 모세와 아론의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다.
셋째 재앙: 이
16 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “아론에게 전하여라. ‘지팡이를 내밀어 땅의 먼지를 쳐라. 그러면 이집트 온 땅의 먼지가 이가 될 것이다.’”
17 그들이 그대로 하였다. 아론이 지팡이를 내밀어 땅 위의 먼지를 치니 이들이 사람과 동물에게 기어올랐다. 이집트 온 땅의 먼지가 이로 변하였다.
18 마술사들도 그들의 마법으로 이가 생기게 하려고 하였으나 그렇게 하지 못하였다. 이들이 사람과 동물에게 달려들었다. 19 마술사들이 파라오에게 말하였다. “이것은 하나님의 능력입니다.” 그러나 파라오의 마음은 굳어서, 주께서 이미 말씀하신 것처럼 그들의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다.
넷째 재앙: 파리 떼
20 주께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “아침 일찍 일어나 파라오가 강으로 내려갈 때에 그의 앞에 나서라. 그리고 그에게 전하여라. ‘나 주가 하는 말이다. “내 백성을 보내어 내게 예배드리게 하여라. 21 네가 내 백성을 놓아 보내지 않으면, 너와 네 신하들과 네 백성들과 네 궁전에 파리 떼를 보내겠다. 이집트 사람의 집집마다 파리가 들끓게 하고 그들이 살고 있는 땅도 파리가 뒤덮게 하겠다. 22 그러나 그날에 내 백성이 살고 있는 고센 땅은 따로 구별하리니, 그곳에는 파리 떼가 들끓지 않을 것이다. 그것은 나 주가 이 땅 가운데 있음을 네가 알게 하려는 것이다. 23 나는 내 백성과 네 백성을 달리 대접할 것이다. 이 징표가 내일 일어날 것이다.”’”
24 파리 떼가 이집트 곳곳에 날아들었다. 파리 떼 때문에 땅이 황폐해졌다. 25 그러자 파라오가 모세와 아론을 불러서 말하였다. “가거라. 그러나 여기 이 땅에서 네 하나님께 희생제물을 바쳐라.”
26 모세가 대답하였다. “그렇게 하는 것은 옳지 않습니다. 우리가 주 우리 하나님께 희생제물을 바칠 터인데 그 희생제물은 이집트 사람들이 몹시 싫어하는 것입니다. 그러니 우리가 이집트 사람들이 보는 데서 그들이 싫어하는 희생제물을 바치면 그들이 우리에게 돌을 던지지 않겠습니까? 27 우리는 먼저 광야로 사흘 길을 가야 합니다. 그런 다음 주 우리 하나님께서 명령하신 대로 그분께 희생제물을 바쳐야 합니다.”
28 파라오가 말하였다 “내가 너희를 보내 주겠다. 광야에 가서 네 하나님 야훼께 희생제물을 바쳐라. 그러나 너무 멀리 가서는 안 된다. 자, 이제 나를 위해 기도해 다오.”
29 모세가 대답하였다. “임금님 앞에서 물러나자마자 내가 주께 기도하겠습니다. 그러면 내일 임금님과 임금님의 신하들과 백성에게서 파리 떼가 떠나갈 것입니다. 다만 임금님께서는 우리가 주께 희생제물을 바치러 가는 것을 또 다시 거절하심으로써, 저희를 속이시면 안 됩니다.”
30 그러고 나서 모세는 파라오 앞에서 물러나와 주께 기도하였다. 31 주께서는 모세가 청하는 대로 해 주셨다. 주께서 파라오와 그의 신하들과 백성에게서 파리 떼를 없애 주시니 단 한 마리도 남아 있지 않았다. 32 그러나 이번에도 파라오는 마음을 굳게 하여 이스라엘 백성을 보내 주지 않았다.

8 And the Lord spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:
3 And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the Lord, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the Lord.
9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the Lord our God.
11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the Lord because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.
13 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.
14 And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.
15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.
16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.
20 And the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.
22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.
23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be.
24 And the Lord did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies.
25 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.
26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
27 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the Lord our God, as he shall command us.
28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.
30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the Lord.
31 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one.
32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.

8 1 [a]Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship(A) me. 2 If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs(B) on your whole country. 3 The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people,(C) and into your ovens and kneading troughs.(D) 4 The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”
5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff(E) over the streams and canals and ponds, and make frogs(F) come up on the land of Egypt.’”
6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs(G) came up and covered the land. 7 But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts;(H) they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8 Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray(I) to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices(J) to the Lord.”
9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time(K) for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”
10 “Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.
Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God.(L) 11 The frogs will leave you and your houses, your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
12 After Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the Lord about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. 13 And the Lord did what Moses asked.(M) The frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards and in the fields. 14 They were piled into heaps, and the land reeked of them. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief,(N) he hardened his heart(O) and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Gnats
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff(P) and strike the dust of the ground,’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.” 17 They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats(Q) came on people and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats. 18 But when the magicians(R) tried to produce gnats by their secret arts,(S) they could not.
Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, 19 the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger(T) of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart(U) was hard and he would not listen,(V) just as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Flies
20 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning(W) and confront Pharaoh as he goes to the river and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they may worship(X) me. 21 If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies; even the ground will be covered with them.
22 “‘But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen,(Y) where my people live;(Z) no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know(AA) that I, the Lord, am in this land. 23 I will make a distinction[b] between my people and your people.(AB) This sign will occur tomorrow.’”
24 And the Lord did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials; throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.(AC)
25 Then Pharaoh summoned(AD) Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.”
26 But Moses said, “That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer the Lord our God would be detestable to the Egyptians.(AE) And if we offer sacrifices that are detestable in their eyes, will they not stone us? 27 We must take a three-day journey(AF) into the wilderness to offer sacrifices(AG) to the Lord our God, as he commands us.”
28 Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray(AH) for me.”
29 Moses answered, “As soon as I leave you, I will pray to the Lord, and tomorrow the flies will leave Pharaoh and his officials and his people. Only let Pharaoh be sure that he does not act deceitfully(AI) again by not letting the people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.”
30 Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord,(AJ) 31 and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained. 32 But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart(AK) and would not let the people go.
