지혜가 주는 복
3 내 아들[a]아
내 가르침을 잊지 말고
내 계명을 마음에 간직하여라.
2 그러면 그것들이 네가 오래 살 수 있게 하고
번영을 누리게 할 것이다.
3 결코 사랑과 신실함을 저버리지 말고
그것을 네 목에 걸고
네 마음 판에 새겨 두어라.
4 그러면 하나님과 사람 앞에서 네가 은혜를 입고
높임을 받을 것이다.
5 너는 마음을 다하여 주님을 믿고 의지하여라.
결코 네 자신의 통찰력에 의존하지 말아라.
6 네가 하는 모든 일을 주께 맡겨라[b].
그리하면 주께서 네 길을 곧게 해 주실 것이다.
7 스스로 자신이 지혜롭다고 생각지 말고
주를 두려워하며 악을 멀리 하여라.
8 이것이 네 몸을 건강하게 해 주고
네 뼈에 영양소가 될 것이다.
9 네가 가진 재산과 네가 거두는 첫 열매로
주를 높이 받들어라.
10 그러면 네 창고가 곡식으로 가득 차고
포도주 통에는 새 포도주가 넘칠 것이다.
11 내 아들아
주의 훈계를 거부하지 말고
그분의 꾸지람을 싫어하지 말아라.
12 아버지가 귀여워하는 아들을 꾸짖듯이
주께서는 사랑하시는 자를 꾸짖으시기 때문이다.
13 지혜를 찾은 사람
곧 슬기를 얻은 사람은 복이 있다.
14 지혜가 주는 이득이 은이 주는 이득보다 낫고
지혜에서 얻는 소득이 금보다 낫기 때문이다.
15 지혜는 루비[c]보다 더 귀하니
네가 바라는 어떤 것도 지혜와 견줄 수 없다.
16 지혜의 오른손에는 장수[d]가 있고
그 왼손에는 부귀영화가 있다.
17 지혜의 길은 즐거운 길이며
그것이 가는 모든 길은 평안뿐이다.
18 지혜는 그것을 붙드는 사람에게 생명의 나무와 같으니
그것에 매달리는 사람은 복이 있다.
19 주께서는 지혜로 땅의 기초를 놓으시고
슬기로 하늘을 펼쳐 놓으셨다.
20 그분의 지식으로 깊은 곳에서 샘들이 터져 나오게 하시고
구름에서 비가 내리게 하셨다.
21 내 아들아
건전한 판단력과 분별력을 잃지 말아라.
그것들이 네 눈앞에서 벗어나지 않게 하여라.
22 그것들이 너에게 생명이 되어 주고
네 목을 아름답게 할 장식이 되어 줄 것이다.
23 그러면 너는 너의 길을 안전하게 갈 것이며
발이 걸려 넘어지는 일이 없을 것이다.
24 잠자리에 들어도 두려울 것이 없으리니
눕는 순간 단잠이 너를 찾을 것이다.
25 갑작스러이 네게 닥쳐오는 재앙이나
악한 사람에게 패망이 덮치는 것을 보더라도 두려워하지 말아라.
26 주님은 네가 믿고 의지할 분이 되시어
네 발이 덫에 걸리지 않게 지켜 주실 것이기 때문이다.
27 네게 도울 힘이 있을 때
네 재물을 아끼지 말고 도움을 받아야 할 사람들을 도와라.
28 네가 지금 가진 것이 있으면서도
네 이웃에게 “내일 줄 테니 갔다가 다시 오시오.”라고 말하지 말아라.
29 너를 믿고 네 가까이에 사는 이웃을 해치려고
음모를 꾸미지 말아라.
30 너에게 해를 끼치지 않는 사람과
까닭 없이 다투지 말아라.
31 난폭한 사람을 부러워하지 말고
그가 하는 어떤 짓도 본받지 말아라.
32 주께서는 악한 자는 미워하시되
정직한 사람에게는 속마음을 털어놓으시기 때문이다.
33 주께서 악한 자의 집에는 저주를 내리시나
의로운 사람의 집에는 복을 내리신다.
34 그분은 교만하게 비웃는 자들은 비웃으시나
겸손한 사람에게는 은혜를 베푸신다.
35 지혜로운 사람은 영광을 물려받으나
미련한 자는 부끄러움을 당할 것이다.

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
3 (A)My son, do not forget my teaching,
(B)but let your heart keep my commandments,
2 for (C)length of days and years of life
and (D)peace they will add to you.
3 Let not (E)steadfast love and (F)faithfulness forsake you;
(G)bind them around your neck;
(H)write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will (I)find favor and (J)good success[a]
in the sight of God and man.
5 (K)Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and (L)do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways (M)acknowledge him,
and he (N)will make straight your paths.
7 (O)Be not wise in your own eyes;
(P)fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be (Q)healing to your flesh[b]
and (R)refreshment[c] to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with (S)the firstfruits of all your produce;
10 then your (T)barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.
11 (U)My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as (V)a father the son in whom he delights.
Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom
13 (W)Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
14 (X)for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than (Y)gold.
15 She is more precious than (Z)jewels,
and (AA)nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 (AB)Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are (AC)riches and honor.
17 Her (AD)ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is (AE)a tree of life to those who (AF)lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.
19 (AG)The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding (AH)he established the heavens;
20 by his knowledge (AI)the deeps broke open,
and (AJ)the clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, (AK)do not lose sight of these—
keep sound wisdom and discretion,
22 and they will be (AL)life for your soul
and (AM)adornment for your neck.
23 (AN)Then you will walk on your way securely,
(AO)and your foot will not stumble.
24 (AP)If you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, (AQ)your sleep will be sweet.
25 (AR)Do not be afraid of sudden terror
or of (AS)the ruin[d] of the wicked, when it comes,
26 for the Lord will be your confidence
and will (AT)keep your foot from being caught.
27 (AU)Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,[e]
when it is in your power to do it.
28 (AV)Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again,
tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.
29 (AW)Do not plan evil against your neighbor,
who (AX)dwells trustingly beside you.
30 (AY)Do not contend with a man for no reason,
when he has done you no harm.
31 (AZ)Do not envy (BA)a man of violence
and do not choose any of his ways,
32 for (BB)the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,
but the upright are (BC)in his confidence.
33 (BD)The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he (BE)blesses the dwelling of the righteous.
34 Toward the (BF)scorners he (BG)is scornful,
(BH)but to the humble he gives favor.[f]
35 The wise will inherit honor,
but fools get[g] disgrace.
