요시야가 유월절을 지키다
(왕하 23:21-23)
35 요시야가 예루살렘에서 주님을 기리는 유월절을 지켰다. 첫째 달 십사일에 유월절 양을 잡았다. 2 그는 제사장들에게 각기 해야 할 일을 맡기고 주의 성전에서 맡은 일들을 잘하라고 격려하였다. 3 그는 또 주께 거룩하게 구별되어서 이스라엘 백성을 가르치는 레위 사람들에게 다음과 같이 말하였다. “거룩한 궤[a]는 이스라엘 왕 다윗의 아들 솔로몬이 지은 성전 안에 두어라. 이제는 그것을 어깨에 메고 다닐 필요가 없다. 이제부터 너희는 주 너희 하나님과 그분의 백성 이스라엘을 섬기도록 하여라. 4 이스라엘 왕 다윗과 그의 아들 솔로몬이 써 놓은 지시에 따라 집안별, 갈래별로 준비하고 있어라. 5 너희는 일반 백성인 너희 동족의 가문별 대표로 성소에 서라. 레위 사람 한 갈래가 한 가문을 대표하도록 하여라. 6 너희는 유월절 어린양을 잡고 너희 자신을 거룩하게 하여라. 그리고 너희 동족을 위해서 어린양을 준비해 주어라. 이 모든 일을 주께서 모세를 통해 명령하신 대로 하여라.”
7 요시야는 거기 모인 일반 백성을 위하여 양과 염소 삼만 마리를 유월절 제물로 쓰도록 내놓고 또 소 삼만 마리도 내놓았다. 이 짐승들은 모두 왕이 가진 가축 떼에서 내어 준 것이다. 8 왕의 신하들도 자원하여 백성들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들에게 유월절에 쓸 것을 주었다. 하나님의 성전의 책임자들인 힐기야와 스가랴와 여히엘은, 제사장들에게 유월절 제물로 쓸 어린양과 새끼 염소 이만 육천 마리와 소 삼백 마리도 주었다. 9 또 고나냐와 그의 형제들인 스마야와 느다넬, 하사뱌, 여이엘, 요자밧[b]이 레위 사람들에게 유월절 제물로 쓸 어린양과 새끼 염소 오만 마리와 소 오백 마리를 내놓았다. 이들은 레위 가문의 지도자들이었다.
10 유월절 제사 준비가 다 되었다. 제사장들은 레위 사람들과 함께 왕이 명령한 대로 갈래에 따라 자기 자리에 섰다. 11 유월절 어린양을 잡고, 제사장들은 넘겨받은 피를 제단에 뿌리고, 레위 사람들은 짐승의 가죽을 벗겼다. 12 그런 다음 그들은 번제물로 바칠 짐승을 각 집안별로 나누어주었다. 이렇게 한 것은 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로 번제물을 바치려는 것이었다. 그들은 소도 그렇게 하였다. 13 또 규정에 따라 유월절 짐승을 불에 굽고, 나머지 거룩한 제물은 솥과 가마와 냄비에 넣고 삶아서 모든 백성에게 곧바로 나누어주었다. 14 그런 다음 레위 사람들은 자신들과 아론 자손의 제사장들의 몫을 준비하였다. 아론 자손 제사장들은 밤늦게까지 번제물과 그 기름기를 태워 바치느라 무척 바빴기 때문이다. 그리하여 레위 사람들이 자신들과 아론 자손인 제사장들을 위해 준비한 것이다.
15 노래하는 사람들, 곧 아삽의 자손은 다윗과 아삽과 헤만과 왕의 선견자 여두둔이 정해 둔 자리에 섰고, 문지기들도 각기 책임 맡은 문을 지켰다. 노래하는 사람들이나 문지기들이 자기들의 자리를 떠나지 않아도 되었던 것은, 그들의 친족 레위 사람들이 그들의 몫을 준비해 주었기 때문이다.
16 이와 같이 그때에 유월절을 축하하여 주께 드리는 예배와 번제물을 주의 제단에 드리는 절차가 모두 요시야 왕이 명령한 대로 진행되었다. 17 그때에 거기 모인 이스라엘 자손이 유월절을 지키고 이레 동안 누룩 없는 빵을 먹는 명절을 지켰다. 18 예언자 사무엘 뒤로 이스라엘에서 이렇게 유월절을 지킨 일이 일찍이 없었다. 요시야는 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들과 더불어, 그곳에 모인 온 유다와 이스라엘 백성과 함께 유월절을 지켰다. 이스라엘의 그 어느 왕도 요시야가 지킨 것처럼 이렇게 유월절을 지킨 적이 없었다. 19 그들은 요시아 왕 제십팔년에 이 유월절을 지켰다.
요시야의 죽음
(왕하 23:28-30)
20 이런 모든 일이 있은 뒤, 곧 요시야가 성전을 제대로 해 놓은 뒤에, 이집트 왕 느고가 유프라테스 강가에 있는 갈그미스를 치려고 군대를 이끌고 올라왔다. 요시야 왕이 그를 맞아 싸우려고 나갔다. 21 그러나 느고가 사절을 보내 이렇게 말하였다.
“유다 왕이여, 그대와 나 사이에 싸울 일이 무엇이오? 내가 이번에 치려는 것은 그대가 아니라 나와 싸움이 벌어진 족속이오. 하나님께서 나에게 서둘러 가라고 명령하셨소. 그러니 나와 함께하시는 하나님을 대적하는 일을 그만두시오. 그렇지 않으면 하나님께서 그대를 멸하실 것이오.”
22 그러나 요시야는 그에게서 물러서려 하지 않았다. 그는 변장까지 하여 전쟁터로 나갔다. 그는 느고가 하나님의 명을 받고 하는 말을 들으려 하지 않고 므깃도 평원으로 싸우러 나갔다. 23 결국 요시야 왕은 적이 쏜 화살에 맞았다. 그는 부하들에게 “내가 크게 다쳤다. 나를 여기서 데리고 나가 다오.” 하고 말하였다.
24 그의 부하들은 그를 그의 전차에서 내려 다른 마차에 옮겨 싣고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다. 그는 예루살렘에서 숨을 거두었다. 그는 그의 조상들의 무덤에 묻혔다. 온 유다와 예루살렘이 그의 죽음을 크게 슬퍼하였다. 25 예레미야가 요시야의 죽음을 슬퍼하는 애가를 지었다. 오늘에 이르기까지 노래하는 남녀들은 이 애가를 불러 요시야를 추모한다. 이것은 이스라엘에서 하나의 전통이 되었고 그 노래들은 ‘애가집’에 기록되어 있다.

35 Moreover Josiah kept a passover unto the Lord in Jerusalem: and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.
2 And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the Lord,
3 And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the Lord, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the Lord your God, and his people Israel,
4 And prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.
5 And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.
6 So kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
7 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king's substance.
8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen.
9 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for passover offerings five thousand small cattle, and five hundred oxen.
10 So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's commandment.
11 And they killed the passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites flayed them.
12 And they removed the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people, to offer unto the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
13 And they roasted the passover with fire according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily among all the people.
14 And afterward they made ready for themselves, and for the priests: because the priests the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron.
15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer; and the porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the Lord was prepared the same day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josiah.
17 And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
18 And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept.
20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
25 And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the Lord,
27 And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

Josiah Keeps the Passover
35 (A)Josiah kept a Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem. And they slaughtered the Passover lamb (B)on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2 He appointed the priests to their offices (C)and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord. 3 And he said to the Levites (D)who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You need not carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 4 Prepare yourselves (E)according to your fathers' houses by your divisions, (F)as prescribed in the writing of David king of Israel (G)and the document of Solomon his son. 5 And (H)stand in the Holy Place (I)according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of your brothers the lay people, and according to the division of the Levites by fathers' household. 6 And slaughter the Passover lamb, and (J)consecrate yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of the Lord by[a] Moses.”
7 Then Josiah contributed to the lay people, as Passover offerings for all who were present, lambs and young goats from the flock to the number of 30,000, and 3,000 bulls; (K)these were from the king's possessions. 8 And his officials contributed willingly to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. (L)Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the chief officers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2,600 Passover lambs and 300 bulls. 9 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings 5,000 lambs and young goats and 500 bulls.
10 When the service had been prepared for, the priests (M)stood in their place, (N)and the Levites in their divisions according to the king's command. 11 (O)And they slaughtered the Passover lamb, and the priests (P)threw the blood that they received from them (Q)while the Levites flayed the sacrifices. 12 And they set aside the burnt offerings that they might distribute them according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of the lay people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. And so they did with the bulls. 13 (R)And they roasted the Passover lamb with fire according to the rule; and they (S)boiled the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the lay people. 14 And afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burnt offerings and the fat parts until night; so the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron. 15 The singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place (T)according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's (U)seer; (V)and the gatekeepers were at each gate. They did not need to depart from their service, for their brothers the Levites prepared for them.
16 So all the service of the Lord was prepared that day, to keep the Passover and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord, according to the command of King Josiah. 17 And the people of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, (W)and the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days. 18 (X)No Passover like it had been kept in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as was kept by Josiah, and the priests and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah this Passover was kept.
Josiah Killed in Battle
20 (Y)After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight at (Z)Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to meet him. 21 But he sent envoys to him, saying, “What have we to do with each other, king of Judah? I am not coming against you this day, but against the house with which I am at war. And God has commanded me to hurry. Cease opposing God, who is with me, lest he destroy you.” 22 Nevertheless, Josiah did not turn away from him, but (AA)disguised himself in order to fight with him. He did not listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, but came to fight in the plain of (AB)Megiddo. 23 And the archers shot King Josiah. And the king said to his servants, (AC)“Take me away, for I am badly wounded.” 24 So his servants took him out of the chariot and carried him in his second chariot and brought him to Jerusalem. And he died and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. (AD)All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. 25 (AE)Jeremiah also uttered a lament for Josiah; and all (AF)the singing men and singing women have spoken of Josiah in their laments to this day. They made these a rule in Israel; behold, they are written in the Laments. 26 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his good deeds according to what is written in the Law of the Lord, 27 and his acts, first and last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.
