아사의 개혁
15 하나님의 영이 오뎃의 아들 아사랴에게 내렸다. 2 그가 아사를 만나러 나아가 말하였다. “아사 임금님과 온 유다와 베냐민은 내 말을 들으십시오. 여러분이 주와 함께 있으면 주께서도 여러분과 함께 계실 것입니다. 여러분은 주를 찾으십시오. 그러면 주께서 만나 주실 것입니다. 그러나 여러분이 그분을 저버리면 주께서도 여러분을 버리실 것입니다. 3 이스라엘은 오랫동안 참 하나님 없이 지내왔습니다. 백성을 가르치는 제사장도 없었고 율법도 없었습니다. 4 그러나 이스라엘이 어려운 일을 당하여 이스라엘의 주 하나님께 돌아와 그분을 찾으면 주께서는 그들을 만나 주셨습니다. 5 그때는 세상이 어지러워서 이 땅의 백성들이 마음 놓고 다닐 수조차 없었습니다. 6 나라와 나라, 성읍과 성읍 사이에 싸움이 끊이지 않았습니다. 이것은 하나님께서 그들이 온갖 고난 가운데서 고통을 받아 보라고 내버려 두셨기 때문입니다. 7 그러나 여러분은 힘을 내고 용기를 잃지 마십시오. 여러분이 하는 일에 상급이 있을 것입니다.”
8 아사는 오뎃의 아들 예언자 아사랴가 전해 준 말을 듣고, 용기를 내어 온 유다와 베냐민과 에브라임 산간지역에서, 그가 빼앗은 성읍들에 있던 혐오스러운 우상들을 모조리 없애 버렸다. 또한 주의 성전 현관 앞에 있는 주의 제단을 수리하였다.
9 그리고 그는 유다와 베냐민의 백성을 모두 불러 모으고, 그들 가운데 와서 살고 있는 에브라임과 므낫세와 시므온 가문의 백성도 모두 불러 모았다. 주 하나님께서 아사와 함께 계시는 것을 보고 이스라엘에서도 많은 사람이 아사에게 모여 들었기 때문이다.
10 아사 왕 제십오년 셋째 달에 그들이 예루살렘에 모였다. 11 그때 그들은 자기들이 얻은 전리품 가운데서 소 칠천 마리와 양 칠천 마리를 주께 희생제물로 바쳤다. 12 그리고 마음과 영혼을 다하여 자기네 조상들의 주 하나님만을 섬기기로 계약을 맺었다. 13 주 이스라엘의 하나님을 찾지 않는 사람은 젊은 사람이든지 나이든 사람이든지, 남자든지 여자든지, 가릴 것 없이 모두 처형하기로 하였다. 14 그들은 나팔과 뿔나팔을 불면서 큰소리로 외쳐 주께 맹세하였다. 15 온 유다 백성이 자신들이 마음을 다하여 이렇게 맹세한 것을 기뻐하였다. 그들이 간절히 주를 찾으니 주께서 그들을 만나 주시고 사방으로 그들에게 평화를 주셨다.
16 아사는 심지어 자기 할머니 마아가가 혐오스러운 아세라 장대를 세웠다고 하여, 그 할머니를 대왕대비 자리에서 물러나게 하였다. 그는 그 장대를 잘라서 기드론 골짜기에서 불태웠다. 17 아사는 비록 지방 신당들을 없애 버리지는 않았지만 주께 바친 그의 마음은 그가 살아 있는 동안 한결같았다. 18 그는 자기와 자기 아버지가 거룩하게 구별하여 바친 금과 은과 그릇들을 주의 성전에 들여놓았다.
19 이때부터 아사 왕 삼십오년까지 더는 전쟁이 없었다.

15 하나님의 성령께서 오뎃의 아들 아사랴를 감동시키시자
2 그는 개선하는 아사왕을 맞아 이렇게 말하였다. “아사왕과 유다와 베냐민 백성 여러분, 내 말을 들으십시오. 여러분이 여호와와 함께 있는 한 여호와께서도 여러분과 함께하실 것입니다. 만일 여러분이 여호와를 찾으면 여러분은 그분을 만날 수 있을 것입니다. 그러나 여러분이 그분을 버리면 여호와께서도 여러분을 버리실 것입니다.
3 이스라엘은 오랫동안 참 신도 없고 백성을 가르칠 제사장이나 율법도 없이 살아왔습니다.
4 그러나 그들이 어려움을 당하여 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께 돌아가 그분을 찾았을 때 그들은 여호와를 만날 수 있었습니다.
5 그 당시에는 온 세상이 무질서하여 아무도 안전하게 다닐 수가 없었습니다.
6 하나님이 여러 가지 환난으로 그들을 괴롭혔기 때문에 나라가 나라를, 도시가 도시를 서로 치고 싸우는 분쟁이 그칠 날이 없었습니다.
7 그러나 여러분은 용기를 잃지 말고 담대하게 선한 일을 하십시오. 그러면 여러분은 반드시 그 보상을 받게 될 것입니다.”
8 아사왕은 예언자 [a]아사랴의 말을 듣고 용기를 얻어 유다와 베냐민 땅은 물론 에브라임 산간 지대에서 그가 빼앗은 모든 성에서 우상을 모조리 제거하고 성전 앞에 있는 여호와의 단을 수리하였다.
9 여호와 하나님이 아사왕과 함께하시는 것을 보고 많은 이스라엘 사람들이 에브라임과 므낫세와 시므온 지역에서 유다 땅으로 이주해 왔다. 아사왕은 그 모든 이주민들과 유다와 베냐민 사람들을 한자리에 불러모았는데
10 그들은 아사왕 15년 3월에 예루살렘에 모여
11 자기들이 빼앗아 온 약탈물 중에서 소 700마리와 양 7,000마리로 여호와께 제사를 드렸다.
12 그런 다음 그들은 마음과 정성을 다하여 그들 조상의 하나님 여호와만을 섬기기로 서약하고
13 여호와를 섬기지 않는 자는 남자 여자 어른 아이 할 것 없이 모두 죽이기로 합의하였다.
14 그러고서 그들은 뿔피리와 나팔을 불면서 그 서약을 지키겠다고 큰 소리로 여호와께 맹세하였다.
15 모든 유다 사람들은 그들이 진심으로 이렇게 맹세하게 된 것을 기쁘게 생각하였다. 그들이 진지하게 하나님을 찾았기 때문에 하나님께서도 그들을 만나 주시고 그들 사방에 평안을 주셨다.
16 아사왕은 그의 할머니 마아가가 아세라 우상을 만들었을 때에도 그녀를 대왕 대비 자리에서 물러나게 하고 그 우상을 찍고 짓눌러 기드론 시냇가에서 불살라 버렸다.
17 아사는 비록 [b]그 땅에서 산당을 제거하지는 않았지만 일평생 여호와께 성실하였으며
18 자기와 자기 아버지가 구별하여 여호와께 드린 금은 제품을 모두 성전에 갖다 두었다.
19 이리하여 아사왕 35년까지 다시는 전쟁이 없었다.

15 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
3 Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
6 And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
7 Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the Lord, that was before the porch of the Lord.
9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
11 And they offered unto the Lord the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
13 That whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14 And they sware unto the Lord with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about.
16 And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
18 And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
19 And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.

Asa’s Reform(A)
15 The Spirit of God came on(B) Azariah son of Oded. 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you(C) when you are with him.(D) If you seek(E) him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.(F) 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach(G) and without the law.(H) 4 But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him,(I) and he was found by them. 5 In those days it was not safe to travel about,(J) for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. 6 One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another,(K) because God was troubling them with every kind of distress. 7 But as for you, be strong(L) and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”(M)
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of[a] Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols(N) from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured(O) in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar(P) of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord’s temple.
9 Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers(Q) had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
10 They assembled at Jerusalem in the third month(R) of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign. 11 At that time they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder(S) they had brought back. 12 They entered into a covenant(T) to seek the Lord,(U) the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. 13 All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death,(V) whether small or great, man or woman. 14 They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns. 15 All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God(W) eagerly, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest(X) on every side.
16 King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maakah(Y) from her position as queen mother,(Z) because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah.(AA) Asa cut it down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.(AB) 17 Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life. 18 He brought into the temple of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.(AC)
19 There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
