종교 지도자들을 꾸중하시다
(막 12:38-40; 눅 11:37-52; 20:45-47)
23 예수께서 무리와 당신의 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 2 “율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들은 모세의 율법을 가르치고 있다. 3 그러니 너희는 그 사람들이 말하는 것을 그대로 지켜라. 그러나 그 사람들의 행실은 본받지 말아라. 그들은 남에게는 율법대로 살라고 가르치면서, 자기들은 행동으로 옮겨 실천하지 않는다. 4 그들은 사람들이 지키기 어려운 엄격한 규칙을 만들어 지키라고 한다. 그러나 자기들은 그 규칙들을 지키려고 하지 않는다.
5 그들이 하는 선한 일은 다른 사람들에게 보이기 위한 것일 뿐이다. 그들은 성경 주머니[a]를 크게 만들고, 옷에 다는 술을 길게 하여 늘어뜨리고 다닌다. 6 그들은 잔치에 가면 가장 높은 자리에 앉으려 하고, 회당에서는 가장 좋은 자리를 찾는다. 7 또 그들은 장터에서 사람들에게 인사 받는 것을 좋아하고, ‘선생님’ 소리를 듣고 싶어한다.
8 그러나 너희는 ‘선생님’ 소리를 듣지 않도록 하여라. 너희의 스승은 오직 한 분뿐이고, 너희는 모두 형제요 자매들이다. 9 이 세상 그 어느 누구도 ‘아버지’ 라고 부르지 말아라. 너희의 아버지는 하늘에 계시는 아버지 한 분뿐이시다. 10 너희는 ‘선생님’ 이라는 소리도 들어서는 안 된다. 너희에게 선생님은 그리스도 한 분뿐이시다. 11 너희 가운데서 으뜸인 사람은 스스로 종이 되어 너희를 섬기는 사람이다. 12 자신을 높이는 사람은 낮아지고, 자신을 낮추는 사람은 높아질 것이다.
13 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아, 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 사람들 앞에서 하늘나라의 문을 닫기 때문이다. 너희는 너희 자신도 하늘나라에 들어가지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 들어가려고 애쓰는 사람들까지 들어가지 못하게 막고 있다. 14 [b]
15 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아, 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 바다를 건너가서, 다른 나라 땅을 두루 돌며, 너희의 가르침을 따를 사람들을 찾아다닌다. 그러나 그런 사람을 찾으면, 너희보다 갑절이나 더 나쁜 사람으로 만들어, 너희와 같은 지옥의 자식이 되게 한다.
16 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 제 앞도 잘못 보면서 다른 사람들을 이끌고 있다. 그러면서 사람들에게 이렇게 말한다. ‘성전을 두고 맹세하면 지키지 않아도 되나, 성전 안에 있는 금을 두고 한 맹세는 꼭 지켜야 한다.’ 17 너희 눈멀고 어리석은 사람들아, 어느 것이 더 중요하냐? 금이냐 아니면 성전이냐? 성전 안에 있는 금이 귀중한 것은, 그것이 성전 안에 있기 때문이다. 그러니 성전이 더 중요하다. 18 또 너희는 이렇게 말하고 있다. ‘제단[c]을 두고 맹세하면 지키지 않아도 되나, 그 제단 위에 있는 제물을 두고 한 맹세는 지켜야 한다.’ 19 너희는 눈뜬장님들이다. 어느 것이 더 중요하냐? 제단 위에 있는 제물이냐 아니면 제단이냐? 제단의 제물이 귀중한 것은, 그것이 제단 위에 있기 때문이다. 그러니 제단이 더 중요하다. 20 제단을 두고 맹세하는 사람은, 제단과 거기에 있는 모든 것을 두고 맹세하는 것이다. 21 그리고 성전을 두고 맹세하는 사람도, 성전과 그 안에 계신 하나님을 두고 맹세하는 것이다. 22 하늘을 두고 맹세하는 사람은 하나님의 보좌와 그 보좌에 앉아 계신 분을 두고 맹세하는 것이다.
23 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아, 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 너희가 기르는 박하와 회향과 근채의 십분의 일은 하나님께 드리면서[d], 정말 중요한 하나님의 계명은 지키지 않는다. 물론 가진 것의 십분의 일을 바치는 것도 가볍게 여겨서는 안 되지만, 정의와 자비와 신의와 같은 율법의 더 중요한 요소들을 실천하여야 했다. 24 다른 사람들을 이끈다고 하는 너희가 바로 눈뜬장님이다. 자기 잔에 빠진 하루살이는 건져내면서 낙타는 삼키는 사람이 있다고 생각해 보라! 너희들이 바로 그런 사람들이다.
25 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아. 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 잔과 접시의 겉은 깨끗이 닦는다. 그러나 그 속에는, 너희의 욕심을 채우기 위해서 다른 사람들을 속여 빼앗은 것들이 가득 차 있다. 26 바리새파 사람들아, 너희들은 눈뜬장님들이다! 먼저 잔 속을 깨끗이 닦아라. 그래야 겉도 깨끗해질 것이다.
27 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아, 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 하얀 회를 칠한 무덤들과 같다. 이 무덤들은 겉에서 보기에는 아름답다. 그러나 무덤 속에는 죽은 사람들의 뼈와 온갖 더러운 것들이 가득 들어 있다. 28 너희들도 마찬가지다. 겉으로는 의로운 사람처럼 보이지만, 마음속에는 온갖 거짓과 악이 가득 차 있다.
29 너희 율법 선생들과 바리새파 사람들아, 이 위선자들아, 너희에게 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 너희는 예언자들의 무덤을 꾸미고, 의롭게 산 사람들의 기념비를 아름답게 장식한다. 30 그리고 이렇게 말한다. ‘우리가 조상들의 시대에 살았더라면, 이 예언자들을 죽이는 데 참여하지 않았을 것이다.’ 31 너희는 너희 자신이 예언자들을 죽인 사람들의 자손이라는 사실을 스스로 증명하고 있다. 32 그러니 너희 조상이 시작한 죄의 분량을 마저 채워라!
33 너희 뱀들아! 너희 독사의 자식들아! 너희가 지옥의 형벌을 어떻게 피하려 하느냐? 34 그러므로 내가 예언자들과 지혜 있는 사람들과 율법 선생들을 너희에게 보낸다. 그러면 너희는 그 가운데서 더러는 죽이고, 더러는 십자가에 매달며, 또 더러는 너희 회당에서 채찍질하고 이 동네 저 동네로 잡으러 다닐 것이다. 35 그리하여 땅에서 흘린 모든 의로운 피가 너희에게 돌아갈 것이다. 너희는, 의인 아벨[e]에서부터 너희가 성전과 제단[f] 사이에서 죽인 바라갸의 아들 사가랴에[g] 이르기까지 많은 죄 없는 사람들을 죽였다. 너희는 반드시 그 죄 값을 치르게 될 것이다. 36 내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 이 모든 일의 책임과 벌이 이 세대 사람들에게 돌아갈 것이다.
예루살렘 사람들에게 경고하시다
(눅 13:34-35)
37 오 예루살렘아, 예루살렘아! 너는 예언자들을 죽이는구나. 너는 하나님께서 네게 보낸 사람들을 돌로 쳐서 죽이는구나. 내가 몇 번이나 암탉이 병아리를 날개 아래 품듯이 네 자녀들을 모으려 했더냐! 그러나 너는 내가 그렇게 하는 것을 원하지 않았다. 38 이제 네 집은 텅 비게 될 것이다. 39 내가 분명히 말한다. 너희가 ‘복되시다, 주의 이름으로 오시는 분이시여!’(A) 라고 말할 그날이 올 때까지, 너희는 나를 다시 보지 못할 것이다.”

Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees
23 Then Jesus (A)said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 (B)“The scribes and the Pharisees (C)sit on Moses' seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, (D)but not the works they do. (E)For they preach, but do not practice. 4 (F)They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 (G)They do all their deeds (H)to be seen by others. For they make (I)their phylacteries broad and (J)their fringes long, 6 and they (K)love the place of honor at feasts and (L)the best seats in the synagogues 7 and (M)greetings in (N)the marketplaces and being called (O)rabbi[b] by others. 8 (P)But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are (Q)all brothers.[c] 9 (R)And call no man your father on earth, for (S)you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, (T)the Christ. 11 (U)The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 (V)Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 “But woe (W)to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you (X)shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you (Y)neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.[d] 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single (Z)proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a (AA)child of (AB)hell[e] as yourselves.
16 “Woe to (AC)you, (AD)blind guides, who say, (AE)‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or (AF)the temple that has made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by (AG)the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19 You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or (AH)the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by (AI)him who dwells in it. 22 And whoever swears by (AJ)heaven swears by (AK)the throne of God and by (AL)him who sits upon it.
23 (AM)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For (AN)you tithe mint and dill and (AO)cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: (AP)justice and mercy and faithfulness. (AQ)These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing (AR)a camel!
25 (AS)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For (AT)you clean the outside of (AU)the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of (AV)greed and self-indulgence. 26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of (AW)the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.
27 (AX)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like (AY)whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and (AZ)all uncleanness. 28 So you also (BA)outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of (BB)hypocrisy and lawlessness.
29 (BC)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are (BD)sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 (BE)Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, (BF)you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to (BG)hell? 34 (BH)Therefore (BI)I send you (BJ)prophets and wise men and (BK)scribes, (BL)some of whom you will kill and crucify, and (BM)some you will (BN)flog in your synagogues and (BO)persecute from town to town, 35 so that on you may come all (BP)the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous (BQ)Abel to the blood of (BR)Zechariah the son of Barachiah,[f] whom you murdered between (BS)the sanctuary and (BT)the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, (BU)all these things will come upon this generation.
Lament over Jerusalem
37 (BV)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that (BW)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have (BX)gathered (BY)your children together (BZ)as a hen gathers her brood (CA)under her wings, and (CB)you were not willing! 38 See, (CC)your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, (CD)‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
