예루살렘에 자리를 잡은 백성들

11 이제 백성의 지도자들이 예루살렘에 자리를 잡았다. 나머지 백성 가운데 누가 거룩한 성 예루살렘에 살 것인지는 제비를 뽑아 정하기로 하였다. 그리하여 열 사람 가운데 한 사람은 예루살렘에서 살고, 나머지 아홉 사람은 자기네 성읍에서 살기로 하였다. 스스로 예루살렘에서 살겠다고 자원한 사람들이 있었는데 백성은 그들 모두에게 복을 빌어 주었다.

예루살렘에 자리를 잡은 각 지방의 지도자들은 다음과 같다. 그런데 이스라엘 일반 백성의 일부와 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 성전 막일꾼들과 솔로몬을 섬기던 종들의 자손들은, 제각기 물려받은 땅이 있는 유다의 여러 성읍에 흩어져 살았다. 유다 가문과 베냐민 가문 사람들 가운데서 일부가 예루살렘에서 살았다.

유다 자손으로는

아다야가 있었다. 그의 아버지는 웃시야, 그 윗대는 스가랴, 그 윗대는 아마랴, 그 윗대는 스바댜, 그 윗대는 마할랄렐, 그 윗대는 베레스이다. 그 다음으로는 마아세야가 있었다. 그의 아버지는 바룩, 그 윗대는 골호세, 그 윗대는 하사야, 그 윗대는 아다야, 그 윗대는 요야립, 그 윗대는 스가랴, 그 윗대는 실로의 자손이다. 예루살렘에 자리 잡은 베레스와 그 자손은 모두 사백육십팔 명이고 이들은 모두 용사였다.

베냐민 자손으로는

살루가 있었다. 그의 아버지는 므술람이요, 그 윗대는 요엣이요, 그 윗대는 브다야요, 그 윗대는 골라야요, 그 윗대는 마아세야요, 그 윗대는 이디엘이요, 그 윗대는 여사야이다. 그를 따르는 사람들은 갑배와 살래 등 모두 구백이십팔 명이었다. 시그리의 아들 요엘이 그들의 우두머리였다. 그리고 핫스누아의 아들인 유다는 예루살렘 성의 제이 구역을 다스렸다.

10 제사장으로는

요야립의 아들인 여다야, 야긴, 11 스라야가 있었다. 그는 하나님의 성전의 관리자이기도 하다. 스라야의 아버지는 힐기야, 그 윗대는 므술람, 그 윗대는 사독, 그 윗대는 므라욧, 그 윗대는 아히둡이다. 12 그리고 성전의 일을 맡아 보는 그들의 친족 팔백이십이 명이 있었다. 또 아다야가 있었는데 그의 아버지는 여로함, 그 윗대는 블라야, 그 윗대는 암시, 그 윗대는 스가랴, 그 윗대는 바스훌, 그 윗대는 말기야이다. 13 그리고 각 집안의 지도자들인 아다야의 친족 이백사십이 명이 있었다. 또 아맛새가 있었는데 그의 아버지는 아사렐, 그 윗대는 아흐새, 그 윗대는 므실레못, 그 윗대는 임멜이다. 14 그리고 용감한 군인들인 아맛새의 친족 백이십팔 명이 있었다. 그들의 우두머리는 하그돌림의 아들인 삽디엘이었다.

15 레위 사람으로는

스마야가 있었다. 그의 아버지는 핫숩, 그 윗대는 아스리감, 그 윗대는 하사뱌, 그 윗대는 분니이다. 16 또 레위 사람의 지도자들인 삽브대와 요사밧이 있었다. 그들은 하나님의 성전 바깥일을 맡았다. 17 또 맛다냐가 있었는데 그의 아버지는 미가, 그 윗대는 삽디, 그 윗대는 아삽이다. 그는 기도 시간에 부르는 감사 찬송을 지휘하는 사람이었다. 또 그의 친족 가운데 부지휘자인 박부갸가 있었다. 또 압다가 있었다. 그의 아버지는 삼무아, 그 윗대는 갈랄, 그 윗대는 여두둔이다. 18 거룩한 성에 자리 잡은 레위 사람은 모두 이백팔십사 명이었다.

19 성전 문지기들로는

악굽과 달몬과 성문을 지키는 그들의 친족들인데 모두 백칠십이 명이 있었다.

20 나머지 이스라엘 백성과 제사장들과 레위 사람들은 유다의 여러 성읍에 흩어져 살았다. 이들은 각기 유산으로 물려받은 땅에서 살았다.

21 성전 막일꾼들은 오벨에서 살았다. 시하와 기스바가 성전 막일꾼들의 책임자였다.

22 예루살렘에 자리 잡은 레위 사람들의 우두머리는 웃시였다. 그의 아버지는 바니, 그 윗대는 하사뱌, 그 윗대는 맛다냐, 그 윗대는 미가이다. 웃시는 하나님의 성전에서 예배드릴 때에 노래를 맡은 아삽의 자손 가운데 하나였다. 23 노래를 맡은 사람들은 그들이 날마다 하여야 할 일을 정해 놓은 왕의 명령 아래 있었다.

24 유다의 아들 세라의 자손 가운데 므세사벨의 아들 브다히야는 백성과 관련된 모든 일에 있어서 왕에게 자문하는 사람이었다.

25 유다 사람들이 살고 있던 마을과 거기에 딸린 들판은 기럇아바와 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 디본과 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 여갑스엘과 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 26 예수아, 몰라다, 벳벨렛, 27 하사루알, 브엘세바와 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 28 시글락, 므고나와 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 29 에느림몬, 소라, 야르뭇, 30 사노아, 아둘람과 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 라기스와 그 둘레의 들판, 아세가와 그 둘레의 작은 마을들이다. 이렇게 유다 사람들이 브엘세바에서 ‘힌놈 골짜기’에 이르기까지 전 지역에 흩어져 살았다.

31 베냐민 가문의 자손 가운데 더러는 게바, 믹마스, 아야, 베델과 그 둘레의 작은 마을들, 32 아나돗, 놉, 아나냐, 33 하솔, 라마, 깃다임, 34 하딧, 스보임, 느발랏, 35 로드, 오노와 ‘기능공들의 골짜기’에서 살았다.

36 유다에 있던 레위 사람들 가운데서 일부는 베냐민 땅으로 옮겨가서 살았다.

The New Residents of Jerusalem(A)

11 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem,(B) the holy city,(C) while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns.(D) The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.

These are the provincial leaders who settled in Jerusalem (now some Israelites, priests, Levites, temple servants and descendants of Solomon’s servants lived in the towns of Judah, each on their own property in the various towns,(E) while other people from both Judah and Benjamin(F) lived in Jerusalem):(G)

From the descendants of Judah:

Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, a descendant of Perez; and Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Kol-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, a descendant of Shelah. The descendants of Perez who lived in Jerusalem totaled 468 men of standing.

From the descendants of Benjamin:

Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah, and his followers, Gabbai and Sallai—928 men. Joel son of Zikri was their chief officer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the New Quarter of the city.

10 From the priests:

Jedaiah; the son of Joiarib; Jakin; 11 Seraiah(H) son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub,(I) the official in charge of the house of God, 12 and their associates, who carried on work for the temple—822 men; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah, 13 and his associates, who were heads of families—242 men; Amashsai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, 14 and his[a] associates, who were men of standing—128. Their chief officer was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim.

15 From the Levites:

Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 16 Shabbethai(J) and Jozabad,(K) two of the heads of the Levites, who had charge of the outside work of the house of God; 17 Mattaniah(L) son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph,(M) the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer; Bakbukiah, second among his associates; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.(N) 18 The Levites in the holy city(O) totaled 284.

19 The gatekeepers:

Akkub, Talmon and their associates, who kept watch at the gates—172 men.

20 The rest of the Israelites, with the priests and Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, each on their ancestral property.

21 The temple servants(P) lived on the hill of Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of them.

22 The chief officer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah,(Q) the son of Mika. Uzzi was one of Asaph’s descendants, who were the musicians responsible for the service of the house of God. 23 The musicians(R) were under the king’s orders, which regulated their daily activity.

24 Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, one of the descendants of Zerah(S) son of Judah, was the king’s agent in all affairs relating to the people.

25 As for the villages with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath Arba(T) and its surrounding settlements, in Dibon(U) and its settlements, in Jekabzeel and its villages, 26 in Jeshua, in Moladah,(V) in Beth Pelet,(W) 27 in Hazar Shual,(X) in Beersheba(Y) and its settlements, 28 in Ziklag,(Z) in Mekonah and its settlements, 29 in En Rimmon, in Zorah,(AA) in Jarmuth,(AB) 30 Zanoah,(AC) Adullam(AD) and their villages, in Lachish(AE) and its fields, and in Azekah(AF) and its settlements. So they were living all the way from Beersheba(AG) to the Valley of Hinnom.

31 The descendants of the Benjamites from Geba(AH) lived in Mikmash,(AI) Aija, Bethel(AJ) and its settlements, 32 in Anathoth,(AK) Nob(AL) and Ananiah, 33 in Hazor,(AM) Ramah(AN) and Gittaim,(AO) 34 in Hadid, Zeboim(AP) and Neballat, 35 in Lod and Ono,(AQ) and in Ge Harashim.

36 Some of the divisions of the Levites of Judah settled in Benjamin.

The People Dwelling in Jerusalem

11 Now the leaders of the people dwelt at Jerusalem; the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, (A)the holy city, and nine-tenths were to dwell in other cities. And the people blessed all the men who (B)willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

(C)These are the heads of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem. (But in the cities of Judah everyone dwelt in his own possession in their cities—Israelites, priests, Levites, (D)Nethinim, and (E)descendants of Solomon’s servants.) Also (F)in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah and of the children of Benjamin.

The children of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the children of (G)Perez; and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-Hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni. All the sons of Perez who dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight valiant men.

And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah; and after him Gabbai and Sallai, nine hundred and twenty-eight. Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer, and Judah the son of [a]Senuah was second over the city.

10 (H)Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, and Jachin; 11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the leader of the house of God. 12 Their brethren who did the work of the house were eight hundred and twenty-two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, 13 and his brethren, heads of the fathers’ houses, were two hundred and forty-two; and Amashai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, 14 and their brethren, mighty men of valor, were one hundred and twenty-eight. Their overseer was Zabdiel [b]the son of one of the great men.

15 Also of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 16 (I)Shabbethai and (J)Jozabad, of the heads of the Levites, had the oversight of (K)the business outside of the [c]house of God; 17 Mattaniah the son of [d]Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the leader who began the thanksgiving with prayer; Bakbukiah, the second among his brethren; and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. 18 All the Levites in (L)the holy city were two hundred and eighty-four.

19 Moreover the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren who kept the gates, were one hundred and seventy-two.

20 And the rest of Israel, of the priests and Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, everyone in his inheritance. 21 (M)But the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel. And Ziha and Gishpa were over the Nethinim.

22 Also the overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha, of the sons of Asaph, the singers in charge of the [e]service of the [f]house of God. 23 For (N)it was the king’s command concerning them that a [g]certain portion should be for the singers, a quota day by day. 24 Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the children of (O)Zerah the son of Judah, was (P)the[h] king’s deputy in all matters concerning the people.

The People Dwelling Outside Jerusalem

25 And as for the villages with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt in (Q)Kirjath Arba and its villages, Dibon and its villages, Jekabzeel and its villages; 26 in Jeshua, Moladah, Beth Pelet, 27 Hazar Shual, and Beersheba and its villages; 28 in Ziklag and Meconah and its villages; 29 in En Rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth, 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages; in Lachish and its fields; in Azekah and its villages. They dwelt from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom.

31 Also the children of Benjamin from Geba dwelt in Michmash, Aija, and Bethel, and their villages; 32 in Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah; 33 in Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim; 34 in Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat; 35 in Lod, Ono, and (R)the Valley of Craftsmen. 36 Some of the Judean divisions of Levites were in Benjamin.

The Leaders in Jerusalem

And in Jerusalem lived certain of the sons of Judah and of the sons of Benjamin. Of the sons of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mahalalel, of the sons of (I)Perez; and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, son of Col-hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, son of the Shilonite. All the sons of Perez who lived in Jerusalem were 468 valiant men.

19 The gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon and their brothers, who kept watch at the gates, were 172. 20 And the rest of Israel, and of the priests and the Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, (N)every one in his inheritance. 21 (O)But the temple servants lived on Ophel; and Ziha and Gishpa were over the temple servants.

22 The overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, over the work of the house of God. 23 (P)For there was a command from the king concerning them, and a fixed provision for the singers, (Q)as every day required. 24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's side[d] in all matters concerning the people.

Villages Outside Jerusalem

25 And as for the villages, with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in (R)Kiriath-arba and its villages, and in Dibon and its villages, and in Jekabzeel and its villages, 26 and in Jeshua and in Moladah and Beth-pelet, 27 in Hazar-shual, in Beersheba and its villages, 28 in Ziklag, in Meconah and its villages, 29 in En-rimmon, in Zorah, in Jarmuth, 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, and Azekah and its villages. So they encamped from Beersheba to (S)the Valley of Hinnom. 31 The people of Benjamin also lived from Geba onward, at Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its villages, 32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, 35 Lod, and (T)Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36 And certain divisions of the Levites in Judah were assigned to Benjamin.
