撒種的比喻
4 耶穌又在海邊教訓人。有許多人到他那裡聚集，他只得上船坐下。船在海裡，眾人都靠近海，站在岸上。 2 耶穌就用比喻教訓他們許多道理。在教訓之間，對他們說： 3 「你們聽啊！有一個撒種的出去撒種。 4 撒的時候，有落在路旁的，飛鳥來吃盡了。 5 有落在土淺石頭地上的，土既不深，發苗最快， 6 日頭出來一曬，因為沒有根，就枯乾了。 7 有落在荊棘裡的，荊棘長起來，把它擠住了，就不結實。 8 又有落在好土裡的，就發生長大，結實有三十倍的，有六十倍的，有一百倍的。」 9 又說：「有耳可聽的，就應當聽！」
用比喻的因由
10 無人的時候，跟隨耶穌的人和十二個門徒問他這比喻的意思。 11 耶穌對他們說：「神國的奧祕只叫你們知道，若是對外人講，凡事就用比喻， 12 叫『他們看是看見，卻不曉得，聽是聽見，卻不明白；恐怕他們回轉過來，就得赦免』。」
解明撒種的比喻
13 又對他們說：「你們不明白這比喻嗎？這樣怎能明白一切的比喻呢？ 14 撒種之人所撒的就是道。 15 那撒在路旁的，就是人聽了道，撒旦立刻來，把撒在他心裡的道奪了去。 16 那撒在石頭地上的，就是人聽了道，立刻歡喜領受， 17 但他心裡沒有根，不過是暫時的，及至為道遭了患難，或是受了逼迫，立刻就跌倒了。 18 還有那撒在荊棘裡的，就是人聽了道， 19 後來有世上的思慮、錢財的迷惑和別樣的私慾進來，把道擠住了，就不能結實。 20 那撒在好地上的，就是人聽道又領受，並且結實，有三十倍的，有六十倍的，有一百倍的。」
21 耶穌又對他們說：「人拿燈來，豈是要放在斗底下、床底下，不放在燈臺上嗎？ 22 因為掩藏的事沒有不顯出來的，隱瞞的事沒有不露出來的。 23 有耳可聽的，就應當聽！」 24 又說：「你們所聽的要留心。你們用什麼量器量給人，也必用什麼量器量給你們，並且要多給你們。 25 因為有的，還要給他；沒有的，連他所有的也要奪去。」
26 又說：「神的國如同人把種撒在地上， 27 黑夜睡覺，白日起來，這種就發芽漸長，那人卻不曉得如何這樣。 28 地生五穀是出於自然的，先發苗，後長穗，再後穗上結成飽滿的子粒。 29 穀既熟了，就用鐮刀去割，因為收成的時候到了。」
芥菜種的比喻
30 又說：「神的國，我們可用什麼比較呢？可用什麼比喻表明呢？ 31 好像一粒芥菜種，種在地裡的時候，雖比地上的百種都小， 32 但種上以後，就長起來，比各樣的菜都大，又長出大枝來，甚至天上的飛鳥可以宿在它的蔭下。」
33 耶穌用許多這樣的比喻，照他們所能聽的，對他們講道。 34 若不用比喻，就不對他們講；沒有人的時候，就把一切的道講給門徒聽。
平靜風和海
35 當那天晚上，耶穌對門徒說：「我們渡到那邊去吧。」 36 門徒離開眾人，耶穌仍在船上，他們就把他一同帶去；也有別的船和他同行。 37 忽然起了暴風，波浪打入船內，甚至船要滿了水。 38 耶穌在船尾上枕著枕頭睡覺。門徒叫醒了他，說：「夫子！我們喪命，你不顧嗎？」 39 耶穌醒了，斥責風，向海說：「住了吧！靜了吧！」風就止住，大大地平靜了。 40 耶穌對他們說：「為什麼膽怯？你們還沒有信心嗎？」 41 他們就大大地懼怕，彼此說：「這到底是誰？連風和海也聽從他了！」

The Parable of the Sower(A)
4 And (B)again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. 2 Then He taught them many things by parables, (C)and said to them in His teaching:
3 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds [a]of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no [b]crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
9 And He said [c]to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The Purpose of Parables(D)
10 (E)But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. 11 And He said to them, “To you it has been given to (F)know the [d]mystery of the kingdom of God; but to (G)those who are outside, all things come in parables, 12 so that
(H)‘Seeing they may see and not perceive,
And hearing they may hear and not understand;
Lest they should turn,
And their sins be forgiven them.’ ”
The Parable of the Sower Explained(I)
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 (J)The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the (K)cares of this world, (L)the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, [e]accept it, and bear (M)fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
Light Under a Basket(N)
21 (O)Also He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? 22 (P)For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. 23 (Q)If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24 Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. (R)With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. 25 (S)For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 And He said, (T)“The kingdom of God is as if a man should [f]scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and (U)grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth (V)yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately (W)he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(X)
30 Then He said, (Y)“To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”
Jesus’ Use of Parables
33 (Z)And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, (AA)He explained all things to His disciples.
Wind and Wave Obey Jesus(AB)
35 (AC)On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, (AD)“Teacher, (AE)do You not care that we are perishing?”
39 Then He arose and (AF)rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, (AG)“Peace,[g] be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? (AH)How[h] is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

And a very large crowd gathered about him, (B)so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. 2 And (C)he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: 3 “Listen! Behold, (D)a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And (E)when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, (F)it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among (G)thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and (H)a hundredfold.” 9 And he said, (I)“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

and may indeed hear but not understand,

A Lamp Under a Basket

The Parable of the Seed Growing
26 And he said, (AH)“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; (AI)he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once (AJ)he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
30 (AK)And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like (AL)a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
33 (AM)With many such parables he spoke (AN)the word to them, (AO)as they were able to hear it. 34 He did not speak to them (AP)without a parable, but (AQ)privately to his own disciples he (AR)explained everything.
Jesus Calms a Storm
35 (AS)On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves (AT)were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and (AU)rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)

Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

4 Jésus se mit de nouveau à enseigner au bord de la mer. Une grande foule s'étant assemblée auprès de lui, il monta et s'assit dans une barque, sur la mer. Toute la foule était à terre sur le rivage.
2 Il leur enseigna beaucoup de choses en paraboles, et il leur dit dans son enseignement:
3 Écoutez. Un semeur sortit pour semer.
4 Comme il semait, une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin: les oiseaux vinrent, et la mangèrent.
5 Une autre partie tomba dans un endroit pierreux, où elle n'avait pas beaucoup de terre; elle leva aussitôt, parce qu'elle ne trouva pas un sol profond;
6 mais, quand le soleil parut, elle fut brûlée et sécha, faute de racines.
7 Une autre partie tomba parmi les épines: les épines montèrent, et l'étouffèrent, et elle ne donna point de fruit.
8 Une autre partie tomba dans la bonne terre: elle donna du fruit qui montait et croissait, et elle rapporta trente, soixante, et cent pour un.
9 Puis il dit: Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.
10 Lorsqu'il fut en particulier, ceux qui l'entouraient avec les douze l'interrogèrent sur les paraboles.
11 Il leur dit: C'est à vous qu'a été donné le mystère du royaume de Dieu; mais pour ceux qui sont dehors tout se passe en paraboles,
12 afin qu'en voyant ils voient et n'aperçoivent point, et qu'en entendant ils entendent et ne comprennent point, de peur qu'ils ne se convertissent, et que les péchés ne leur soient pardonnés.
13 Il leur dit encore: Vous ne comprenez pas cette parabole? Comment donc comprendrez-vous toutes les paraboles?
14 Le semeur sème la parole.
15 Les uns sont le long du chemin, où la parole est semée; quand ils l'ont entendue, aussitôt Satan vient et enlève la parole qui a été semée en eux.
16 Les autres, pareillement, reçoivent la semence dans les endroits pierreux; quand ils entendent la parole, ils la reçoivent d'abord avec joie;
17 mais ils n'ont pas de racine en eux-mêmes, ils manquent de persistance, et, dès que survient une tribulation ou une persécution à cause de la parole, ils y trouvent une occasion de chute.
18 D'autres reçoivent la semence parmi les épines; ce sont ceux qui entendent la parole,
19 mais en qui les soucis du siècle, la séduction des richesses et l'invasion des autres convoitises, étouffent la parole, et la rendent infructueuse.
20 D'autres reçoivent la semence dans la bonne terre; ce sont ceux qui entendent la parole, la reçoivent, et portent du fruit, trente, soixante, et cent pour un.
21 Il leur dit encore: Apporte-t-on la lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, ou sous le lit? N'est-ce pas pour la mettre sur le chandelier?
22 Car il n'est rien de caché qui ne doive être découvert, rien de secret qui ne doive être mis au jour.
23 Si quelqu'un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu'il entende.
24 Il leur dit encore: Prenez garde à ce que vous entendez. On vous mesurera avec la mesure dont vous vous serez servis, et on y ajoutera pour vous.
25 Car on donnera à celui qui a; mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.
26 Il dit encore: Il en est du royaume de Dieu comme quand un homme jette de la semence en terre;
27 qu'il dorme ou qu'il veille, nuit et jour, la semence germe et croît sans qu'il sache comment.
28 La terre produit d'elle-même, d'abord l'herbe, puis l'épi, puis le grain tout formé dans l'épi;
29 et, dès que le fruit est mûr, on y met la faucille, car la moisson est là.
30 Il dit encore: A quoi comparerons-nous le royaume de Dieu, ou par quelle parabole le représenterons-nous?
31 Il est semblable à un grain de sénevé, qui, lorsqu'on le sème en terre, est la plus petite de toutes les semences qui sont sur la terre;
32 mais, lorsqu'il a été semé, il monte, devient plus grand que tous les légumes, et pousse de grandes branches, en sorte que les oiseaux du ciel peuvent habiter sous son ombre.
33 C'est par beaucoup de paraboles de ce genre qu'il leur annonçait la parole, selon qu'ils étaient capables de l'entendre.
34 Il ne leur parlait point sans parabole; mais, en particulier, il expliquait tout à ses disciples.
35 Ce même jour, sur le soir, Jésus leur dit: Passons à l'autre bord.
36 Après avoir renvoyé la foule, ils l'emmenèrent dans la barque où il se trouvait; il y avait aussi d'autres barques avec lui.
37 Il s'éleva un grand tourbillon, et les flots se jetaient dans la barque, au point qu'elle se remplissait déjà.
38 Et lui, il dormait à la poupe sur le coussin. Ils le réveillèrent, et lui dirent: Maître, ne t'inquiètes-tu pas de ce que nous périssons?
39 S'étant réveillé, il menaça le vent, et dit à la mer: Silence! tais-toi! Et le vent cessa, et il y eut un grand calme.
40 Puis il leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous ainsi peur? Comment n'avez-vous point de foi?
41 Ils furent saisis d'une grande frayeur, et ils se dirent les uns aux autres: Quel est donc celui-ci, à qui obéissent même le vent et la mer?
