2 所以我的儿子啊，你要藉着在基督耶稣里的恩典得以刚强。 2 你要把那些在许多见证人面前[a]从我所听见的，交托给那些忠心可靠、又有能力教导别人的人。
3 做为基督耶稣[b]的好士兵，你要与我[c]同受苦难。 4 凡是当兵的，没有一个会让日常事务纠缠自己，这是为要使那招兵的人喜悦。 5 同样，如果有人要参加竞赛，除非按着规矩去竞赛，否则就不能得冠冕。 6 劳苦做工的农夫，应该先享受果实。 7 你要思考我所说的话，主会在一切事上赐给你悟性。
8 你当记住那从死人中复活的耶稣基督，照着我的福音，他出自大卫的后裔。 9 我为这福音受苦，甚至像罪犯一样被捆绑；然而神的话语[d]是不受捆绑的。 10 所以，我为了那些蒙拣选的人忍受一切，好让他们也能得到那在基督耶稣里的救恩和永恒的荣耀。 11 以下的话是信实的：
我们如果与基督一同死了，就将与他一同活着；
12 我们如果忍耐，就将与他一同做王；
我们如果不认他，他也将不认我们。
13 我们如果不信实，他仍然是信实的，
因为他不能否定自己。
做无愧的工人
14 你要提醒他们这些事，在神[e]面前郑重地劝诫他们：不可在言词上争执，那是毫无益处的，只会败坏听见的人。 15 你要努力地向神显明自己是经过考验的，是无愧的工人，能正确分解真理的话语。 16 至于那些不敬神的空谈，你们要避免，因为说这些话的人[f]将导致更多不敬神的事； 17 他们的话像毒瘤那样将会扩散。这些人中间有希米奈奥和菲利特斯， 18 他们偏离了那有关真理的事，称复活为已经过去的事，结果推翻了一些人的信仰。 19 不过神坚固的根基始终确立，上面有这样的印记：
20 在大户人家，不仅有金器、银器，也有木器、瓦器；虽然有的为了贵重的用处[i]，但有的却为了卑贱的用处[j]。 21 所以，如果有人洁净自己脱离卑贱的事，他就会成为贵重的器皿，被分别为圣，对主人有用，而且是为着一切美善的工作所预备好的。
22 所以你要逃避年轻人的欲望；要与那些以洁净的心求告主的人一同追求公义、信仰、爱心、和平； 23 要拒绝愚拙无知的辩论，因为你知道这些只会引起争斗， 24 而主的奴仆不应该争斗；相反，要温和地对待所有的人，善于教导，忍受恶待， 25 温柔地管教那些反对的人；或许神会赐给这些人悔改的心，到真理的知识当中。 26 这样，那些被魔鬼掳去、随从魔鬼意思的人，就能醒悟过来，脱离魔鬼的网罗。

2 至于你，我的儿子，通过在基督耶稣里的恩赐，坚强起来吧。 2 把当着许多证人的面从我这里听到的一切，托付给值得信赖并能够教导别人的人。 3 像基督耶稣的好战士一样，和我一同共患难吧。 4 服役的士兵，不能纠缠于平民百姓的生活之中，因为他要尽力取悦自己的指挥官。 5 如果一个人参加体育比赛，除非他完全遵守规则，否则，他是不会赢得桂冠的。 6 辛勤劳作的农民应该首先享受丰收的果实。 7 我希望你思考我所说的话，主会赋予你理解这些话的能力。
8 要记住耶稣基督，他从死里复活，是大卫 [a]的后代，这是我传播的福音的精髓。 9 为了福音我受苦受难，甚至不惜像罪犯一样戴上镣铐。但是上帝的信息是锁不住的。 10 我为了上帝的选民忍受一切，是为了让他们伴随着永恒的荣耀，也在基督耶稣中得到拯救。

让上帝喜悦的工作者
14 要不断地提醒人们这些事情。要在上帝面前郑重地警告他们，不要强词夺理，这种争吵毫无益处，只会毁掉听众。 15 要竭尽全力作一个蒙上帝称赞问心无愧的工作者，直截了当地使用上帝真理的信息。 16 要避免空虚、庸俗之谈，因为那只会让人们离上帝越来越远。 17 这些人的教导就像坏疽一样四处扩散。许米乃和腓理徒就是其中之人。 18 他们已经偏离了真理，说复活已经发生过了。他们正在毁灭一些人的信心。 19 不过上帝奠定的基础是坚实稳固的，在它上面刻着∶“主知道那些属于他的人。”还有，“任何自称属于主的人必须离弃邪恶。” [b]
20 一栋大宅子里不仅有金银器皿，还有木器和陶器。有些物品用于高雅的场合，有些用于一般场合。 21 如果一个人使自己清除了这些不洁，他就会成为用于高贵场合的器皿，就会变得圣洁，对主人有用，随时准备用于各种善事。
22 不要年少气盛，要和那些心地纯洁、信主的人一道追求正义、信仰、爱与和平。 23 要避免愚蠢的争论，因为那只能导致更大的争论。 24 做为主的仆人，不可争吵，而应该待人善良，循循善诱，宽大为怀。 25 对于反对他的人，他必须和和气气地规劝他们，希望上帝能让他们悔改，使他们认识真理， 26 以便他们醒悟，摆脱魔鬼的陷井，免得在那里成为魔鬼的俘虏，受他的驱使。

2 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
