以利亚逃亡
19 亚哈把以利亚做的一切事以及他怎样杀掉所有巴力先知的经过，都告诉了耶洗别， 2 耶洗别就派人去告诉以利亚，说：“明天这个时候，我若不使你像那些人一样丧命，愿神明重重地惩罚我。”
3 以利亚很害怕，连忙逃命，来到犹大的别示巴。他让仆人留在那里， 4 自己在旷野走了一天的路程，来到一棵罗腾树下，坐下来祷告求死，说：“耶和华啊，我受够了，求你取走我的性命吧，我不比我的祖先强。” 5 他躺在树下睡着了。有一位天使拍醒他，说：“起来吃东西吧。” 6 他睁开眼睛，见头边有用炭火烤好的饼和一瓶水。他吃喝完毕，又躺下来。 7 耶和华的天使第二次来拍醒他，说：“起来吃东西吧，你还要走很远的路。” 8 以利亚起来吃喝，就有了力气，走了四十昼夜，来到上帝的山——何烈山。
9 他进了一个山洞，在里面过夜。耶和华就问他：“以利亚，你在这里做什么？” 10 以利亚回答说：“我一向热心事奉万军之上帝耶和华。但以色列人背弃你的约，拆毁你的祭坛，残杀你的先知。现在只剩下我一个人，他们还要杀我。” 11 耶和华说：“你出来站在山上，站在我面前。”耶和华从那里经过时，疾风大作，劈山碎石，但耶和华不在风中。疾风过后又有地震，但耶和华不在其中。 12 地震之后又有火，但耶和华也不在火中。之后，传来微小的声音。 13 以利亚听见后，就用外袍蒙着脸出去站在洞口。那声音问他：“以利亚，你在这里做什么？” 14 以利亚回答说：“我一向热心事奉万军之上帝耶和华。但以色列人背弃你的约，拆毁你的祭坛，残杀你的先知。现在只剩下我一个人，他们还要杀我。” 15 耶和华吩咐他说：“你原路返回，前往大马士革附近的旷野，到了之后要膏立哈薛做亚兰王。 16 然后，再膏立宁示的孙子耶户做以色列王，还要膏立亚伯·米何拉人沙法的儿子以利沙做先知来接替你。 17 将来从哈薛刀下逃生的，必被耶户杀死；从耶户刀下逃生的，必被以利沙杀死。 18 此外，我在以色列留下七千人，他们未曾跪拜巴力，也未曾亲吻巴力。”
呼召以利沙
19 于是，以利亚离开那里，找到沙法的儿子以利沙，他正在耕田。他前面有十二对牛，他正赶着第十二对。以利亚走过以利沙身边时，将自己的外袍搭在他身上。 20 以利沙就撇下牛，追上以利亚说：“请你让我先回去与父母亲吻道别，再跟你走吧。”以利亚说：“你回去吧，别忘了我刚才对你做的事。” 21 以利沙就回去了。他宰了两头耕牛，用耕具作柴煮肉分给众人，然后去跟随以利亚，服侍他。

Elías huye de Jezabel
19 Acab le contó a Jezabel todo lo que Elías había hecho y cómo[a] había matado a espada a todos los profetas(A). 2 Entonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, diciendo: «Así me hagan los dioses y aun me añadan(B), si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu vida como la vida de uno de ellos». 3 Elías tuvo miedo[b], y se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida; y vino a Beerseba(C) de Judá y dejó allí a su criado, 4 y anduvo por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó bajo un arbusto[c]; pidió morirse(D) y dijo: «Basta ya, Señor, toma mi vida porque yo no soy mejor que mis padres». 5 Y acostándose bajo el arbusto, se durmió; pero un ángel lo tocó(E) y le dijo: «Levántate, come». 6 Entonces vio que en su cabecera había una torta cocida sobre piedras calientes y una vasija de agua. Comió y bebió, y volvió a acostarse. 7 El ángel del Señor volvió por segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: «Levántate, come, porque es muy largo el camino para ti». 8 Se levantó, pues, y comió y bebió, y con la fuerza de aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches(F) hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios(G).
Elías se encuentra con Dios
9 Allí entró en una cueva y pasó en ella la noche; y vino a él la palabra del Señor(H), y Él le dijo: «¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?». 10 Y él respondió: «He tenido mucho celo por el Señor(I), Dios de los ejércitos; porque los israelitas han abandonado Tu pacto, han derribado Tus altares y han matado a espada a Tus profetas. He quedado yo solo(J) y buscan mi vida para quitármela(K)».
11 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Sal y ponte en el monte delante del Señor(L)». En ese momento el Señor pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento(M) destrozaba los montes y quebraba las peñas delante del Señor; pero el Señor no estaba en el viento. Después del viento, un terremoto; pero el Señor no estaba en el terremoto. 12 Después del terremoto, un fuego; pero el Señor no estaba en el fuego. Y después del fuego, el susurro de una brisa apacible(N). 13 Cuando Elías lo oyó, se cubrió el rostro(O) con su manto, y salió y se puso a la entrada de la cueva. Y una voz vino a él y le preguntó: «¿Qué haces aquí, Elías(P)?». 14 Entonces él respondió: «He tenido mucho celo por el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos; porque los israelitas han abandonado Tu pacto, han derribado Tus altares y han matado a espada a Tus profetas. He quedado yo solo y buscan mi vida para quitármela(Q)».
15 Y el Señor le dijo: «Ve, regresa por tu camino al desierto de Damasco y cuando hayas llegado, ungirás a Hazael(R) por rey sobre Aram; 16 y a Jehú, hijo de Nimsi(S), ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y a Eliseo, hijo de Safat(T) de Abel Mehola, ungirás por profeta en tu lugar. 17 Al que escape de la espada de Hazael(U), Jehú lo matará(V), y al que escape de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará. 18 Pero dejaré 7,000 en Israel, todas las rodillas que no se han doblado ante Baal(W) y toda boca que no lo ha besado(X)».
Llamamiento de Eliseo
19 Elías partió de allí y encontró a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que estaba arando con doce yuntas de bueyes delante de él, y él estaba con la última. Elías pasó adonde él estaba y le echó su manto encima(Y). 20 Dejando él los bueyes, corrió tras Elías, y dijo: «Permítame besar a mi padre y a mi madre, entonces lo seguiré(Z)». Y él le dijo: «Ve, vuélvete, pues, ¿qué te he hecho yo?». 21 Entonces se volvió, dejando de seguirlo, tomó un par de bueyes y los sacrificó, y con los aparejos de los bueyes coció su carne(AA), y la dio a la gente y ellos comieron. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y le servía.

19 Acab dio a Jezabel la nueva de todo lo que Elías había hecho, y de cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas. 2 Entonces envió Jezabel a Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y aun me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos. 3 Viendo, pues, el peligro, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida, y vino a Beerseba, que está en Judá, y dejó allí a su criado.
4 Y él se fue por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo: Basta ya, oh Jehová, quítame la vida, pues no soy yo mejor que mis padres. 5 Y echándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido; y he aquí luego un ángel le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come. 6 Entonces él miró, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y una vasija de agua; y comió y bebió, y volvió a dormirse. 7 Y volviendo el ángel de Jehová la segunda vez, lo tocó, diciendo: Levántate y come, porque largo camino te resta. 8 Se levantó, pues, y comió y bebió; y fortalecido con aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios.
9 Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Y vino a él palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías? 10 Él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.(A) 11 Él le dijo: Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová. Y he aquí Jehová que pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová; pero Jehová no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto; pero Jehová no estaba en el terremoto. 12 Y tras el terremoto un fuego; pero Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego un silbo apacible y delicado. 13 Y cuando lo oyó Elías, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y se puso a la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí vino a él una voz, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías? 14 Él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.(B) 15 Y le dijo Jehová: Ve, vuélvete por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco; y llegarás, y ungirás a Hazael por rey de Siria.(C) 16 A Jehú hijo de Nimsi ungirás por rey sobre Israel;(D) y a Eliseo hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, ungirás para que sea profeta en tu lugar. 17 Y el que escapare de la espada de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará. 18 Y yo haré que queden en Israel siete mil, cuyas rodillas no se doblaron ante Baal,(E) y cuyas bocas no lo besaron.
Llamamiento de Eliseo
19 Partiendo él de allí, halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí, y él tenía la última. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto. 20 Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo: Te ruego que me dejes besar a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: Ve, vuelve; ¿qué te he hecho yo? 21 Y se volvió, y tomó un par de bueyes y los mató, y con el arado de los bueyes coció la carne, y la dio al pueblo para que comiesen. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y le servía.

Elijah’s Journey to Horeb
19 Ahab told Jezebel(A) everything that Elijah had done(B) and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.(C) 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “May the gods punish me and do so severely(D) if I don’t make your life like the life of one of them by this time tomorrow!”
3 Then Elijah became afraid[a](E) and immediately ran for his life.(F) When he came to Beer-sheba(G) that belonged to Judah, he left his servant there,(H) 4 but he went on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree(I) and prayed that he might die. He said, “I have had enough! Lord, take my life,(J) for I’m no better than my ancestors.” 5 Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree.
Suddenly, an angel touched him.(K) The angel told him, “Get up and eat.” 6 Then he looked, and there at his head was a loaf of bread baked over hot stones, and a jug of water.(L) So he ate and drank and lay down again. 7 Then the angel of the Lord(M) returned for a second time and touched him. He said, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.” 8 So he got up, ate, and drank. Then on the strength from that food, he walked forty days and forty nights(N) to Horeb, the mountain of God.(O) 9 He entered a cave(P) there and spent the night.
Elijah’s Encounter with the Lord
Suddenly, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (Q)
10 He replied, “I have been very zealous(R) for the Lord God of Armies, but the Israelites have abandoned your covenant,(S) torn down your altars,(T) and killed your prophets(U) with the sword. I alone am left,(V) and they are looking for me to take my life.”(W)
11 Then he said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord’s presence.”(X)
At that moment, the Lord passed by.(Y) A great and mighty wind(Z) was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake,(AA) but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake there was a fire,(AB) but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper.(AC) 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle(AD) and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.
Suddenly, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14 “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Armies,” he replied, “but the Israelites have abandoned your covenant, torn down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they’re looking for me to take my life.”(AE)
15 Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return by the way you came to the Wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to anoint Hazael(AF) as king over Aram. 16 You are to anoint Jehu(AG) son of Nimshi as king over Israel and Elisha(AH) son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. 17 Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael,(AI) and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.(AJ) 18 But I will leave seven thousand in Israel(AK)—every knee that has not bowed to Baal(AL) and every mouth that has not kissed him.”(AM)
Elisha’s Appointment as Elijah’s Successor
19 Elijah left there and found Elisha(AN) son of Shaphat as he was plowing. Twelve teams of oxen were in front of him, and he was with the twelfth team. Elijah walked by him and threw his mantle over him.(AO) 20 Elisha left the oxen, ran to follow Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you.”(AP)
“Go on back,” he replied, “for what have I done to you?”
21 So he turned back from following him, took the team of oxen, and slaughtered[b] them. With the oxen’s wooden yoke and plow,(AQ) he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he left, followed Elijah, and served him.(AR)
