24 Исус је сабрао сва племена Израиљева у Сихему и позвао старешине Израиљеве, њихове главаре, судије и старешине, па су стали пред Бога.
2 Исус рече целом народу: „Говори Господ, Бог Израиљев: ’Ваши преци – попут Таре, оца Авра̂мовог и Нахоровог – живели су у давна времена с друге стране Еуфрата, и служили другим боговима. 3 Али ја сам одвео претка вашег Авра̂ма оданде, с друге стране Еуфрата, и провео га кроз целу хананску земљу. Умножио сам његово потомство и дао му Исака. 4 Исаку сам дао Јакова и Исава. Исаву сам дао гору Сир у посед, док је Јаков са својим синовима сишао у Египат.
5 Затим сам послао Мојсија и Арона, па сам ударио Египат пошастима које сам учинио усред њега, и онда вас извео оданде. 6 Ваше оце сам извео из Египта, па сте стигли на море. 16 Народ одговори: „Далеко било од нас да оставимо Господа да бисмо служили другим боговима! 17 Јер Господ, Бог наш, је тај који је извео нас и наше оце из Египта, куће ропства, он је учинио на наше очи оне велике знакове, и он нас је чувао целим путем којим смо путовали, и међу свим народима кроз које смо пролазили. 18 Господ је тај који је протерао пред нама све народе, Аморејце које су живели у земљи. Зато ћемо и ми служити Господу, јер је он Бог наш.“
19 Исус рече народу: „Ви не можете да служите Господу, јер он је свети Бог, љубоморни Бог који вам неће опростити преступе и грехе. 20 Ако оставите Господа да бисте служили страним боговима, он ће се окренути и довести пропаст на вас, па ће вас докрајчити, након што вам је чинио добро.“
21 Народ одговори Исусу: „Не, ми ћемо служити Господу!“
22 Исус рече народу: „Ви сте сведоци против себе да сте изабрали да служите Господу.“
Народ одговори: „Сведоци смо.“
23 „Стога, уклоните стране богове из ваше средине и приклоните се срцем ка Господу, Богу Израиљеву.“
24 Народ одговори Исусу: „Служићемо Господу, Богу нашем, и слушаћемо његов глас.“
25 Тако је Исус тог дана у Сихему склопио савез са народом, и дао им уредбе и пропис. 26 Исус је уписао ове речи у књигу Божијег Закона. Затим је узео велики камен и поставио га тамо испод храста, код Светилишта Господњег.
27 Исус рече целом народу: „Ево, овај ће камен бити сведок против нас, јер је чуо све речи које нам је Господ рекао. Он ће бити сведок против вас ако се изневерите своме Богу.“
28 Тада Исус отпреми народ, свакога на његово наследство.
Исусова смрт
29 Након ових догађаја, умре Исус, син Навинов, слуга Господњи. Било му је стотину десет година. 30 Сахранили су га у крају који му је припао у наследство у Тимнат-Сераху, који је Јефремовој гори северно од горе Гас.
31 Израиљ је служио Господу током свег Исусовог века, и током свег века старешина који су надживели Исуса, и који су знали за сва дела која је Господ учинио за Израиљ.
32 А Јосифове кости, које су Израиљци понели из Египта, сахранили су у Сихему, на делу поља које је Јаков купио од синова Емора, оца Сихемовог, за стотину кесита.[a] Тако је Сихем припао у наследство синова Јосифових.

24 Исус Навин окупи сва Израелова племена у Сихему. Сазва Израелове старешине, поглаваре, судије и надгледнике, и они стадоше пред Бога.
2 Исус Навин рече целом народу: »Овако каже ГОСПОД, Бог Израелов: ‚У давна времена ваши праоци, укључујући Тару, Авраамовог и Нахоровог оца, живели су са оне стране реке Еуфрат[a] и служили другим боговима. 3 Али ја сам узео вашег праоца Авраама с оне стране реке Еуфрат, провео га кроз цео Ханаан и умножио његово потомство. Дао сам му Исаака, 4 а Исааку Јакова и Исава. 11 »‚Онда сте прешли преко реке Јордан и дошли до Јерихона. Житељи Јерихона борили су се против вас, а тако и Аморејци, Перижани, Ханаанци, Хетити, Гиргашани, Хивијци и Јевусејци, али ја сам их предао у ваше руке. 12 Пред вама сам послао стршљена[b], и он је, а не ваш мач или лук, пред вама истерао она два аморејска цара. 13 Дао сам вам земљу око које се нисте трудили и градове које нисте ви изградили, и ви живите у њима и једете род виноградâ и маслињакâ које нисте ви посадили.‘
14 »Зато се бојте ГОСПОДА и служите му беспрекорно и верно. Уклоните богове којима су служили ваши праоци с оне стране реке Еуфрат и у Египту, и служите ГОСПОДУ. 15 Али, ако вам се не свиђа да служите ГОСПОДУ, онда данас одаберите коме ћете служити: боговима којима су служили ваши праоци с оне стране реке Еуфрат или боговима Аморејаца, у чијој земљи живите. А што се тиче мене и мојих укућана, ми ћемо служити ГОСПОДУ.«
16 »Далеко било да оставимо ГОСПОДА да бисмо служили другим боговима!« одговори народ. 17 »Јер, ГОСПОД, наш Бог, јесте онај који је нас и наше праоце извео из Египта, куће ропства, и нама наочиглед учинио она велика знамења. Он нас је чувао целим путем којим смо ишли и међу свим народима кроз које смо пролазили. 18 ГОСПОД је пред нама истерао све народе – Аморејце који су живели у овој земљи. И ми ћемо исто да служимо ГОСПОДУ, јер је он наш Бог.«
19 Тада Исус Навин рече народу: »Ви нисте у стању да служите ГОСПОДУ, јер он је свети Бог. Он је љубоморан Бог. Он вам неће опростити вашу побуну и грехе. 20 Ако оставите ГОСПОДА и служите туђим боговима, он ће се окренути против вас и довести на вас несрећу, па ће вас затрти, иако је био добар према вама.«
21 »Не!« рече народ Исусу Навину. »Служићемо ГОСПОДУ!«
22 Тада Исус Навин рече: »Сведоци сте сами против себе да сте изабрали ГОСПОДА, да њему служите.«
А народ одврати: »Сведоци смо.«
23 »Онда сада уклоните туђе богове који су међу вама«, рече Исус Навин, »и срцем се приклоните ГОСПОДУ, Богу Израеловом.«
24 А народ рече Исусу Навину: »Служићемо ГОСПОДУ, своме Богу, и покоравати му се.«
25 Тога дана Исус Навин склопи савез с народом, и тамо, у Сихему, изложи му прописе и законе. 26 Потом све то записа у Књигу Божијег закона, па узе један велик камен и постави га под смрдљиком близу ГОСПОДЊЕГ светилишта.
27 »Ево«, рече Исус Навин целом народу, »овај камен ће бити сведок против нас, јер је чуо све речи које нам је ГОСПОД говорио. Он ће бити сведок против вас ако будете неверни своме Богу.«
28 Онда Исус Навин отпусти народ, свакога на његово наследство.

The Covenant Renewed at Shechem
24 Then Joshua assembled(A) all the tribes of Israel at Shechem.(B) He summoned(C) the elders,(D) leaders, judges and officials of Israel,(E) and they presented themselves before God.
2 Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your ancestors, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor,(F) lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.(G) 3 But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan(H) and gave him many descendants.(I) I gave him Isaac,(J) 4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau.(K) I assigned the hill country of Seir(L) to Esau, but Jacob and his family went down to Egypt.(M)
5 “‘Then I sent Moses and Aaron,(N) and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and I brought you out.(O) 6 When I brought your people out of Egypt, you came to the sea,(P) and the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen[a](Q) as far as the Red Sea.[b](R) 7 But they cried(S) to the Lord for help, and he put darkness(T) between you and the Egyptians; he brought the sea over them and covered them.(U) You saw with your own eyes what I did to the Egyptians.(V) Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.(W)
8 “‘I brought you to the land of the Amorites(X) who lived east of the Jordan. They fought against you, but I gave them into your hands. I destroyed them from before you, and you took possession of their land.(Y) 9 When Balak son of Zippor,(Z) the king of Moab, prepared to fight against Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor(AA) to put a curse on you.(AB) 10 But I would not listen to Balaam, so he blessed you(AC) again and again, and I delivered you out of his hand.
11 “‘Then you crossed the Jordan(AD) and came to Jericho.(AE) The citizens of Jericho fought against you, as did also the Amorites, Perizzites,(AF) Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites and Jebusites,(AG) but I gave them into your hands.(AH) 12 I sent the hornet(AI) ahead of you, which drove them out(AJ) before you—also the two Amorite kings. You did not do it with your own sword and bow.(AK) 13 So I gave you a land(AL) on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’(AM)
14 “Now fear the Lord(AN) and serve him with all faithfulness.(AO) Throw away the gods(AP) your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt,(AQ) and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites,(AR) in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household,(AS) we will serve the Lord.”(AT)
16 Then the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake(AU) the Lord to serve other gods! 17 It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery,(AV) and performed those great signs(AW) before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled. 18 And the Lord drove out(AX) before us all the nations,(AY) including the Amorites, who lived in the land.(AZ) We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God.(BA)”
19 Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord. He is a holy God;(BB) he is a jealous God.(BC) He will not forgive(BD) your rebellion(BE) and your sins. 20 If you forsake the Lord(BF) and serve foreign gods, he will turn(BG) and bring disaster(BH) on you and make an end of you,(BI) after he has been good to you.”
21 But the people said to Joshua, “No! We will serve the Lord.”
22 Then Joshua said, “You are witnesses(BJ) against yourselves that you have chosen(BK) to serve the Lord.”
“Yes, we are witnesses,(BL)” they replied.
23 “Now then,” said Joshua, “throw away the foreign gods(BM) that are among you and yield your hearts(BN) to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
24 And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.”(BO)
25 On that day Joshua made a covenant(BP) for the people, and there at Shechem(BQ) he reaffirmed for them decrees and laws.(BR) 26 And Joshua recorded(BS) these things in the Book of the Law of God.(BT) Then he took a large stone(BU) and set it up there under the oak(BV) near the holy place of the Lord.
27 “See!” he said to all the people. “This stone(BW) will be a witness(BX) against us. It has heard all the words the Lord has said to us. It will be a witness against you if you are untrue(BY) to your God.”(BZ)
28 Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to their own inheritance.(CA)
Buried in the Promised Land(CB)
29 After these things, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died(CC) at the age of a hundred and ten.(CD) 30 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Serah[c](CE) in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.(CF)
31 Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders(CG) who outlived him and who had experienced everything the Lord had done for Israel.
32 And Joseph’s bones,(CH) which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt,(CI) were buried at Shechem in the tract of land(CJ) that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver[d] from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants.
33 And Eleazar son of Aaron(CK) died and was buried at Gibeah,(CL) which had been allotted to his son Phinehas(CM) in the hill country(CN) of Ephraim.

24 And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
3 And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
4 And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
6 And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
7 And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
11 And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;
17 For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
18 And the Lord drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the Lord; for he is our God.
19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
20 If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.
22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
23 Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the Lord God of Israel.
24 And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.
27 And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the Lord which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
28 So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
29 And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.
32 And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
