Psalm 108-113
English Standard Version
With God We Shall Do Valiantly
A Song. A Psalm of David.
108 (A)My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being![a]
2 Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
3 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
4 For your steadfast love is great (B)above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
6 (C)That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me!
7 God has promised in his holiness:[b]
“With exultation I will divide up Shechem
and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
Ephraim is my helmet,
Judah my scepter.
9 Moab is my washbasin;
upon Edom I cast my shoe;
(D)over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Have you not rejected us, O God?
You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
12 Oh grant us help against the foe,
for vain is the salvation of man!
13 With God we shall do valiantly;
it is he who will tread down our foes.
Help Me, O Lord My God
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
109 (E)Be not silent, O (F)God of my praise!
2 For wicked and (G)deceitful mouths are opened against me,
speaking against me with lying tongues.
3 They encircle me with words of hate,
and attack me (H)without cause.
4 In return for my love they (I)accuse me,
but I (J)give myself to prayer.[c]
5 So they (K)reward me evil for good,
and hatred for my love.
6 (L)Appoint a wicked man (M)against him;
let an accuser stand (N)at his right hand.
7 When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
let his (O)prayer be counted as sin!
8 May his (P)days be few;
may (Q)another take his (R)office!
9 May his (S)children be fatherless
and his wife a widow!
10 May his children (T)wander about and beg,
(U)seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
11 May (V)the creditor seize all that he has;
may (W)strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
12 Let there be none to (X)extend kindness to him,
nor any to (Y)pity his fatherless children!
13 May his (Z)posterity be cut off;
may his (AA)name be blotted out in the second generation!
14 May (AB)the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
and let not the sin of his mother be (AC)blotted out!
15 (AD)Let them be before the Lord continually,
that he may (AE)cut off the memory of them from the earth!
16 For he did not remember to show kindness,
but pursued (AF)the poor and needy
and (AG)the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
17 (AH)He loved to curse; let curses come[d] upon him!
He did not delight in blessing; may it be far[e] from him!
18 He (AI)clothed himself with cursing as his coat;
may it (AJ)soak[f] into his body like water,
like oil into his bones!
19 May it be like a garment that he wraps around him,
like a belt that he puts on every day!
20 May this be the reward of my (AK)accusers from the Lord,
of those who speak evil against my life!
21 But you, O God my Lord,
deal on my behalf (AL)for your name's sake;
because your (AM)steadfast love is good, deliver me!
22 For I am (AN)poor and needy,
and my heart is stricken within me.
23 I am gone like (AO)a shadow at evening;
I am (AP)shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees are weak (AQ)through fasting;
my (AR)body has become gaunt, with no fat.
25 I am (AS)an object of scorn to my accusers;
when they see me, they (AT)wag their heads.
26 (AU)Help me, O Lord my God!
Save me according to your steadfast love!
27 Let them (AV)know that this is your hand;
you, O Lord, have done it!
28 (AW)Let them curse, but you will bless!
They arise and are put to shame, but (AX)your servant will be glad!
29 May my accusers be (AY)clothed with dishonor;
may they (AZ)be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!
30 With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
I will (BA)praise him in the midst of the throng.
31 For he stands (BB)at the right hand of the needy one,
to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.
Sit at My Right Hand
A Psalm of David.
110 (BC)The Lord says to my Lord:
(BD)“Sit at my right hand,
(BE)until I make your enemies your (BF)footstool.”
2 The Lord sends forth (BG)from Zion
(BH)your mighty scepter.
(BI)Rule in the midst of your enemies!
3 (BJ)Your people will (BK)offer themselves freely
on the day of your (BL)power,[g]
in (BM)holy garments;[h]
from the womb of the morning,
the dew of your youth will be yours.[i]
4 (BN)The Lord has (BO)sworn
and will (BP)not change his mind,
(BQ)“You are (BR)a priest (BS)forever
after the order of (BT)Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at your (BU)right hand;
he will (BV)shatter kings on (BW)the day of his wrath.
6 He will (BX)execute judgment among the nations,
(BY)filling them with corpses;
he will (BZ)shatter chiefs[j]
over the wide earth.
7 He will (CA)drink from the brook by the way;
therefore he will lift up his head.
Great Are the Lord's Works
111 [k] (CB)Praise the Lord!
I (CC)will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of (CD)the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the (CE)works of the Lord,
(CF)studied by all who delight in them.
3 (CG)Full of splendor and majesty is his work,
and his (CH)righteousness endures forever.
4 He has (CI)caused his wondrous works to be remembered;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he (CJ)remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are (CK)trustworthy;
8 they are (CL)established forever and ever,
to be performed with (CM)faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent (CN)redemption to his people;
he has (CO)commanded his covenant forever.
(CP)Holy and awesome is his name!
10 (CQ)The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have (CR)a good understanding.
His (CS)praise endures forever!
The Righteous Will Never Be Moved
112 [l] (CT)Praise the Lord!
(CU)Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who (CV)greatly delights in his commandments!
2 His (CW)offspring will be mighty in the land;
(CX)the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 (CY)Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his (CZ)righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness (DA)for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and (DB)righteous.
5 It is well with the man who (DC)deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 For the righteous will (DD)never be moved;
(DE)he will be remembered forever.
7 He is not (DF)afraid of bad news;
his (DG)heart is firm, (DH)trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is steady;[m] he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.
9 He has (DI)distributed freely; he has given to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever;
his (DJ)horn is exalted in honor.
10 The wicked man sees it and is angry;
he (DK)gnashes his teeth and (DL)melts away;
(DM)the desire of the wicked will perish!
Who Is like the Lord Our God?
2 (DQ)Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
3 (DR)From the rising of the sun to its setting,
(DS)the name of the Lord is (DT)to be praised!
4 The Lord is (DU)high above all nations,
and his (DV)glory above the heavens!
5 (DW)Who is like the Lord our God,
who is seated on high,
6 who (DX)looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
7 He (DY)raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 to make them (DZ)sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
9 He (EA)gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
(EB)Praise the Lord!
