Psalm 115

1 Niet wij, Heer, moeten worden geprezen,
maar U alleen, want U bent goed en trouw.
2 Waarom zouden de volken die U niet kennen, zeggen:
"Waar is hun God dan?"
3 Onze God is in de hemel.
Wat Híj wil, gebeurt.
4 De goden van de volken zijn van zilver en goud.
Ze zijn door mensen gemaakt.
5 Ze hebben een mond, maar spreken niet.
Ze hebben ogen, maar zien niet.
6 Ze hebben oren, maar horen niet.
Ze hebben een neus, maar ruiken niet.
7 Hun handen voelen niet.
Hun voeten lopen niet.
Hun keel maakt geen geluid.
8 De mensen die hen maakten en op hen vertrouwden,
zijn nét zo machteloos als zij.
9 Israël, vertrouw jij maar op de Heer!
Hij beschermt je als een schild.
Hij is je Redder.
10 Priesters, vertrouw op de Heer.
Hij beschermt jullie als een schild.
Hij is jullie Redder.
11 Jullie die ontzag voor de Heer hebben,
vertrouw op de Heer.
Hij beschermt jullie als een schild.
Hij is jullie Redder.
12 De Heer heeft aan ons gedacht.
Hij zal goed voor ons zijn.
Hij zal goed zijn voor het volk Israël.
Hij zal goed zijn voor de priesters.
13 Hij zal goed zijn voor de mensen
die diep ontzag voor Hem hebben,
arm en rijk.
14 De Heer zal goed voor jullie zijn
en voor jullie kinderen.
15 De Heer die de hemel en aarde gemaakt heeft,
zal voor altijd goed voor jullie zijn.
16 De hemel is van de Heer,
maar de aarde heeft Hij aan de mensen gegeven.
17 Niet de doden zullen de Heer prijzen.
Niemand die in de stilte van het graf ligt, zal de Heer nog prijzen.
18 Maar wij, wij zullen de Heer prijzen,
nu en voor eeuwig. Halleluja!

Psalmen 115
Het Boek

115 Here, wij verdienen geen eer.
Alleen uw naam komt alle eer toe
vanwege uw goedheid, liefde en trouw.
2 De heidenen zeggen: ‘Waar is hun God nu?’
3 Onze God woont in de hemel
en doet wat Hem goeddunkt.
4 Hun afgodsbeelden zijn van zilver en goud,
vervaardigd door gewone mensen.
5 Die beelden kun je zien:
zij hebben een mond, maar zeggen geen woord.
6 Ook hebben ze oren aan het beeld gemaakt,
maar die kunnen toch niet horen.
En een neus, maar die ruikt niets.
7 De handen die eraan zitten, voelen niets.
En de voeten verzetten geen stap.
Ook de keel kan geen geluid voortbrengen.
8 Wie beelden maakt zal eenmaal
net zo doods zijn als zijn maaksels.
Zo gaat het ook met ieder die op die beelden vertrouwt.
9 Israëlieten,
stel uw vertrouwen op de Here.
Hij is voor hen een helper
en stelt Zich beschermend voor hen op.
10 Nageslacht van Aäron,
stel uw vertrouwen op de Here
Hij is voor hen een Helper
en stelt Zich beschermend voor hen op.
11 Als u ontzag hebt voor de Here,
stel dan ook uw vertrouwen op Hem.
Hij is voor u een Helper
en stelt Zich beschermend voor u op.
12 De Here denkt aan ons,
Hij geeft de zegen.
Hij geeft zegeningen
aan het volk van Israël,
aan het nageslacht van Aäron
13 en aan ieder die ontzag voor de Here heeft,
klein en groot.
14 Ik bid dat de Here u veel kinderen geeft,
zowel aan u als aan uw kinderen.
15 U bent rijk gezegend door de Here,
die hemel en aarde heeft gemaakt.
16 De hemel is de woonplaats van de Here
en de aarde gaf Hij aan de mensen.
17 Dode mensen kunnen de Here niet prijzen,
vanuit het dodenrijk kan niemand Hem eren.
18 Wij, de levende mensen,
mogen echter de Here loven en prijzen:
nu en tot in eeuwigheid.

Psalm 115[a]

115 Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name bring honor,[b]
for the sake of your loyal love and faithfulness.[c]
2 Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
3 Our God is in heaven.
He does whatever he pleases.[d]
4 Their[e] idols are made of silver and gold—
they are man-made.[f]
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see,
6 ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell,
7 hands, but cannot touch,
feet, but cannot walk.
They cannot even clear their throats.[g]
8 Those who make them will end up[h] like them,
as will everyone who trusts in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[i] and protector.[j]
10 O family[k] of Aaron, trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[l] and protector.[m]
11 You loyal followers of the Lord,[n] trust in the Lord.
He is their deliverer[o] and protector.[p]
12 The Lord takes notice of us;[q] he will bless[r]—
he will bless the family[s] of Israel,
he will bless the family of Aaron.
13 He will bless his loyal followers,[t]
both young and old.[u]
14 May he increase your numbers,
yours and your children’s.[v]
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Creator[w] of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens belong to the Lord,[x]
but the earth he has given to mankind.[y]
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any of those who descend into the silence of death.[z]
18 But we will praise the Lord
now and forevermore.

1 Not to us, Lord, not to us
    but to your name be the glory,(B)
    because of your love and faithfulness.(C)

2 Why do the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”(D)
3 Our God is in heaven;(E)
    he does whatever pleases him.(F)
4 But their idols are silver and gold,(G)
    made by human hands.(H)
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,(I)
    eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears, but cannot hear,
    noses, but cannot smell.
