¹⁰ Then^(A) Judas Iscariot,^(B) one of the Twelve,^(C) went to the chief priests^(D) to betray Jesus^(E) to them. ¹¹ And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him money.^(F) So he started looking for a good opportunity to betray^(G) him.

Preparation for Passover

¹² On^(H) the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb,^(I) his disciples^(J) asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare the Passover so that you may eat it?”

¹³ So he sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. ¹⁴ Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher^(K) says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ ¹⁵ He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” ¹⁶ So the disciples^(L) went out, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

Betrayal at the Passover

¹⁷ When^(M) evening came, he arrived with the Twelve.^{(N) 18} While they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”

¹⁹ They began to be distressed and to say to him one by one, “Surely not I?”

²⁰ He said to them, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping bread in the bowl with me. ²¹ For the Son of Man^(O) will go just as it is written^(P) about him,^(Q) but woe^(R) to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for him if he had not been born.”

The Time Is Near

⁶ Then he said to me, “These words are faithful^[a] and true.^(A) The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets,^[b] has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”^(B)

⁷ “Look, I am coming soon!^(C) Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”^(D)

⁸ I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me. ⁹ But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you, your brothers the prophets, and those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!” ^(E)

¹⁰ Then he said to me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.^{(F) 11} Let the unrighteous go on in unrighteousness; let the filthy still be filthy; let the righteous go on in righteousness; let the holy still be holy.”^(G)

¹² “Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me^(H) to repay each person according to his work.^{(I) 13} I am the Alpha and the Omega, ^(J) the first and the last,^(K) the beginning and the end.^(L)

¹⁴ “Blessed ^(M) are those who wash their robes,^[c] so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. ¹⁵ Outside are the dogs, ^(N) the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.^(O)

¹⁶ “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the Root^(P) and descendant of David,^(Q) the bright morning star.”^(R)

¹⁷ Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely.^(S)

¹⁸ I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. ¹⁹ And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, which are written about in this book.^(T)

²⁰ He who testifies about these things^(U) says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
