⁵ Look, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet^(A) before the great and awesome Day of the Lord comes.^{(B) 6 [a]}And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers.^(C) Otherwise, I will come and strike the land^[b] with a curse.”

¹⁴ if you’re willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who is to come.^{(A) 15} Anyone who has ears^[a] should listen!^(B)

¹⁰ So the disciples questioned Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”^(A)

¹⁵ But others said, “He’s Elijah.”^(A) Still others said, “He’s a prophet^[a]—like one of the prophets.”^(B)
