5 “Sumigaw ka, Job, kung may sasagot sa iyo.
Mayroon bang anghel na sa iyo'y sasaklolo?
2 Ang sama ng loob ay pumapatay sa mga taong hangal.
Ang pagkainggit ay kumikitil sa mga taong mangmang.
3 Nakakita na ako ng mga hangal na panatag kung titingnan,
ngunit bigla kong sinusumpa ang kanilang mga tahanan.
4 Walang matakbuhan ang kanilang mga anak,
walang sinuman ang sa kanila'y magligtas.
5 Ang kanilang ani'y kinakain ng mga gutom,
kahit ang nasa tinikan, inaagaw sa kanila.
Ninanasa ng mga uhaw ang kayamanan nila.
6 Ang kahirapa'y hindi sa alabok nagmula,
at ang kaguluha'y hindi tumutubo sa lupa.
7 Tiyak na daranas ng kahirapan ang tao,
kung paanong may tilamsik ng apoy sa apuyan.
8 “Kung ako sa iyo, lalapit ako sa Diyos,
at ang aking kalagayan, sa kanya idudulog.
9 Mga(A) dakilang gawa niya'y di natin mauunawaan,
mga kababalaghan niya ay walang katapusan.
10 Ang lupa'y pinadadalhan niya ng ulan,
mga bukiri'y kanyang pinatutubigan.
11 Ang nagpapakumbaba ay kanyang itinataas,
ang mga nalulungkot, kanyang inililigtas.
12 Mga pakana ng mga tuso'y kanyang sinisira,
kaya anumang gawin nila'y wala silang napapala.
13 Ang(B) mga tuso'y inihuhulog niya sa sarili nilang bitag,
kanilang mga pakana'y kaagad nagwawakas.
14 Di makita ang daan kahit na sa araw, sila'y nangangapa kahit katanghalian.
15 Ngunit inililigtas ng Diyos ang mga ulila,
iniaahon niya sa kaapihan ang mga dukha.
16 Binibigyan niya ng pag-asa ang mga dukha, pinatatahimik niya ang masasama.
17 “Mapalad(C) ang taong dinidisiplina ng Diyos na Makapangyarihan,
ang pagtutuwid niya sa iyo'y huwag mong ipagdamdam.
18 Ginagamot(D) niya ang kanyang nasugatan,
pinapagaling niya ang kanyang nasaktan.
19 Sa tuwi-tuwina, paningin niya'y nasa iyo, upang ikaw ay ingatan, laging handang sumaklolo.
20 Sa panahon ng taggutom, di ka niya pababayaan,
at kung sa digmaan ay hindi ka niya iiwan.
21 Ililigtas ka niya sa dilang mapanira,
at di ka matatakot sa kapahamakan.
22 Kaguluhan at taggutom, iyo lamang tatawanan,
at mababangis na hayop, hindi mo katatakutan.
23 Walang mga bato sa bukid na iyong sasakahin,
maiilap na hayop, di ka lalapain.
24 Magiging ligtas ang iyong tahanan,
at ang iyong mga kawan ay hindi mababawasan.
25 Ang lahi mo ay di mapipigil sa paglaki;
tulad ng damo, ang mga supling mo ay darami.
26 Tatamasahin mo ang mahabang buhay,
katulad ng bungang nahinog sa panahon ng anihan.
27 Ang mga ito'y aming matagal na pinag-aralan,
pakinggan mo't alamin pagkat ito'y katotohanan.”

5 “They cry for help but no one listens; they turn to their gods, but none gives them aid. 2 They die in helpless frustration, overcome by their own anger. 3 Those who turn from God may be successful for the moment, but then comes sudden disaster. 4 Their children are cheated, with no one to defend them. 5 Their harvests are stolen, and their wealth slakes the thirst of many others, not themselves! 6 Misery comes upon them to punish them for sowing seeds of sin. 7 Mankind heads for sin and misery as predictably as flames shoot upwards from a fire.
8 “My advice to you is this: Go to God and confess your sins to him.[a] 9 For he does wonderful miracles, marvels without number. 10 He sends the rain upon the earth to water the fields, 11 and gives prosperity to the poor and humble, and takes sufferers to safety.
12 “He frustrates the plans of crafty men. 13 They are caught in their own traps; he thwarts their schemes. 14 They grope like blind men in the daylight; they see no better in the daytime than at night.
15 “God saves the fatherless and the poor from the grasp of these oppressors. 16 And so at last the poor have hope, and the fangs of the wicked are broken.
17 “How enviable the man whom God corrects! Oh, do not despise the chastening of the Lord when you sin. 18 For though he wounds, he binds and heals again. 19 He will deliver you again and again so that no evil can touch you.
20 “He will keep you from death in famine and from the power of the sword in time of war.
21 “You will be safe from slander; no need to fear the future.
22 “You shall laugh at war and famine; wild animals will leave you alone. 23 Dangerous animals will be at peace with you.
24 “You need not worry about your home while you are gone; nothing shall be stolen from your barns.
25 “Your sons shall become important men; your descendants shall be as numerous as grass! 26 You shall live a long, good life; like standing grain, you’ll not be harvested until it’s time! 27 I have found from experience that all of this is true. For your own good, listen to my counsel.”

Eliphaz: Job Is Chastened by God
5 “Call out now;
Is there anyone who will answer you?
And to which of the holy ones will you turn?
2 For wrath kills a foolish man,
And envy slays a simple one.
3 (A)I have seen the foolish taking root,
But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place.
4 His sons are (B)far from safety,
They are crushed in the gate,
And (C)there is no deliverer.
5 Because the hungry eat up his harvest,
[a]Taking it even from the thorns,
[b]And a snare snatches their [c]substance.
6 For affliction does not come from the dust,
Nor does trouble spring from the ground;
7 Yet man is (D)born to [d]trouble,
As the sparks fly upward.
8 “But as for me, I would seek God,
And to God I would commit my cause—
9 Who does great things, and unsearchable,
Marvelous things without number.
10 (E)He gives rain on the earth,
And sends waters on the fields.
11 (F)He sets on high those who are lowly,
And those who mourn are lifted to safety.
12 (G)He frustrates the devices of the crafty,
So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.
13 He catches the (H)wise in their own craftiness,
And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime,
And grope at noontime as in the night.
15 But (I)He saves the needy from the sword,
From the mouth of the mighty,
And from their hand.
16 (J)So the poor have hope,
And injustice shuts her mouth.
17 “Behold,(K) happy is the man whom God corrects;
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
18 (L)For He bruises, but He binds up;
He wounds, but His hands make whole.
19 (M)He shall deliver you in six troubles,
Yes, in seven (N)no evil shall touch you.
20 (O)In famine He shall redeem you from death,
And in war from the [e]power of the sword.
21 (P)You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue,
And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes.
22 You shall laugh at destruction and famine,
And (Q)you shall not be afraid of the (R)beasts of the earth.
23 (S)For you shall have a covenant with the stones of the field,
And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
24 You shall know that your tent is in peace;
You shall visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss.
25 You shall also know that (T)your descendants shall be many,
And your offspring (U)like the grass of the earth.
26 (V)You shall come to the grave at a full age,
As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season.
27 Behold, this we have (W)searched out;
It is true.
Hear it, and know for yourself.”
