3 Pagkatapos nito'y ibinuka ni Job ang kaniyang bibig at sinumpa ang kaniyang kaarawan.
2 At si Job ay sumagot, at nagsabi,
3 Maparam nawa ang kaarawan ng kapanganakan sa akin, at ang gabi na nagsabi, may lalaking ipinaglihi.
4 Magdilim nawa ang kaarawang yaon; huwag nawang pansinin ng Dios mula sa itaas, ni silangan man ng liwanag.
5 Ang dilim at ang salimuot na kadiliman ang siyang mangagari niyaon; pag-ulapan nawa yaon; Pangilabutin nawa yaon ng lahat na nagpapadilim sa araw.
6 Suma gabing yaon nawa ang pagsasalimuot ng kadiliman: huwag nawang kagalakan sa mga araw ng sangtaon; huwag nawang mapasok sa bilang ng mga buwan.
7 Narito, mapagisa ang gabing yaon; huwag nawang datnan yaon ng masayang tinig.
8 Sumpain nawa yaong nanganunumpa sa araw, ng nangamimihasang gumalaw sa buwaya.
9 Mangagdilim nawa ang mga bituin ng pagtatakip-silim niyaon: maghintay nawa ng liwanag, nguni't huwag magkaroon: ni huwag mamalas ang mga bukang liwayway ng umaga:
10 Sapagka't hindi tinakpan ang mga pinto ng bahay-bata ng aking ina, o ikinubli man ang kabagabagan sa aking mga mata.
11 Bakit hindi pa ako namatay mula sa bahay-bata? Bakit di pa napatid ang aking hininga nang ipanganak ako ng aking ina?
12 Bakit tinanggap ako ng mga tuhod? O bakit ng mga suso, na aking sususuhin?
13 Sapagka't ngayon ay nahihiga sana ako at natatahimik; ako sana'y nakakatulog; na napapahinga ako:
14 Na kasama ng mga hari at ng mga kasangguni sa lupa, na nagsisigawa ng mga dakong ilang sa ganang kanila;
15 O ng mga pangulo na nangagkaroon ng ginto, na pumuno sa kanilang bahay ng pilak:
16 O gaya sana ng nalagas na nakatago, na hindi nabuhay; gaya sana ng sanggol na kailan man ay hindi nakakita ng liwanag.
17 Doo'y naglilikat ang masama sa pagbagabag; at doo'y nagpapahinga ang pagod.
18 Doo'y ang mga bihag ay nangagpapahingang magkakasama; hindi nila naririnig ang tinig ng nagpapaatag.
19 Ang mababa at ang mataas ay nangaroon; at ang alipin ay laya sa kaniyang panginoon.
20 Bakit binibigyan ng liwanag ang nasa karalitaan, at ng buhay ang kaluluwang nasa kahirapan;
21 Na naghihintay ng kamatayan, nguni't hindi dumarating; at hinahangad ng higit kaysa mga kayamanang nakatago;
22 Na nagagalak ng di kawasa, at nangasasayahan, pagka nasumpungan ang libingan?
23 Bakit binibigyan ng liwanag ang tao na kinalilingiran ng lakad, at ang kinulong ng Dios?
24 Sapagka't nagbubuntong hininga ako bago ako kumain, at ang aking mga angal ay bumubugsong parang tubig.
25 Sapagka't ang bagay na aking kinatatakutan ay dumarating sa akin, at ang aking pinangingilabutan ay dumarating sa akin.
26 Hindi ako tiwasay, ni ako man ay tahimik, ni ako man ay napapahinga; kundi kabagabagan ang dumarating.

Job Regrets His Birth
3 Afterward[a] Job opened his mouth and cursed[b] his day. 2 Thus[c] Job spoke up[d] and said,
3 “Let the day perish on which I was born,
and the night that said, ‘A man-child is conceived.’
4 Let that day become[e] darkness;
may God not seek it from above,
nor may daylight shine on it.
5 Let darkness and deep shadow claim it;
let clouds[f] settle on it;
let them[g] terrify it with the blackness[h] of day.
6 Let darkness seize that night;[i]
let it not rejoice among the days of the year;
let it not enter among the number of the months.
7 Look, let that night become[j] barren;
let a joyful song not enter it.
8 Let those who curse the day curse it,
those who are skilled at rousing Leviathan.
9 Let the stars of its dawn be dark;
let it hope for light but[k] there be none,
and let it not see the eyelids of dawn
10 because it did not shut the doors of my mother’s womb,
nor[l] did it hide trouble from my eyes.
Job Wishes He Had Died
11 “Why did I not die at[m] birth?
Why did I not come forth from the womb and expire?
12 Why did the knees receive me
and the breasts, that I could suck?
13 For now I would lie down, and I would be at peace;
I would be asleep; then I would be at rest[n]
14 with kings and counselors of the earth,
who rebuild [o] ruins for themselves,
15 or with high officials who have gold,[p]
who fill up their houses with silver.
16 Or why was I not hidden like a miscarriage,
like infants who did not see the light?
17 There the wicked cease from troubling,
and there the weary[q] are at rest;
18 the prisoners are at ease together;
they do not hear the oppressor’s voice.
19 The small and the great are there,
and the slave is free from his masters.[r]
Job Wishes He Might Die
20 “Why does he[s] give light to one in misery
and life to those bitter of soul,
21 who wait for death, but[t] it does not come,[u]
and search[v] for it more than for treasures,
22 who rejoice exceedingly,[w]
and they are glad when they find the grave?
23 Why does he[x] give light to a man whose way is hidden,
and God has fenced him in all around?
24 For[y] my sighing comes before[z] my bread,[aa]
and my groanings gush forth like water
25 because the dread that I feel[ab] has come upon me,
and what I feared befalls me.
26 I am not at ease, and I am not at peace,
and I do not have rest, thus[ac] turmoil has come.”

3 “May the day of my birth perish,
and the night that said, ‘A boy is conceived!’(B)
4 That day—may it turn to darkness;
may God above not care about it;
may no light shine on it.
5 May gloom and utter darkness(C) claim it once more;
may a cloud settle over it;
may blackness overwhelm it.
6 That night—may thick darkness(D) seize it;
may it not be included among the days of the year
nor be entered in any of the months.
7 May that night be barren;
may no shout of joy(E) be heard in it.
8 May those who curse days[a] curse that day,(F)
those who are ready to rouse Leviathan.(G)
9 May its morning stars become dark;
may it wait for daylight in vain
and not see the first rays of dawn,(H)
10 for it did not shut the doors of the womb on me
to hide trouble from my eyes.
11 “Why did I not perish at birth,
and die as I came from the womb?(I)
12 Why were there knees to receive me(J)
and breasts that I might be nursed?
13 For now I would be lying down(K) in peace;
I would be asleep and at rest(L)
14 with kings and rulers of the earth,(M)
who built for themselves places now lying in ruins,(N)
15 with princes(O) who had gold,
who filled their houses with silver.(P)
16 Or why was I not hidden away in the ground like a stillborn child,(Q)
like an infant who never saw the light of day?(R)
17 There the wicked cease from turmoil,(S)
and there the weary are at rest.(T)
18 Captives(U) also enjoy their ease;
they no longer hear the slave driver’s(V) shout.(W)
19 The small and the great are there,(X)
and the slaves are freed from their owners.
20 “Why is light given to those in misery,
and life to the bitter of soul,(Y)
21 to those who long for death that does not come,(Z)
who search for it more than for hidden treasure,(AA)
22 who are filled with gladness
and rejoice when they reach the grave?(AB)
23 Why is life given to a man
whose way is hidden,(AC)
whom God has hedged in?(AD)
24 For sighing(AE) has become my daily food;(AF)
my groans(AG) pour out like water.(AH)
25 What I feared has come upon me;
what I dreaded(AI) has happened to me.(AJ)
26 I have no peace,(AK) no quietness;
I have no rest,(AL) but only turmoil.”(AM)
