God maakt alles

1 In het begin maakte God de hemel en de aarde. 2 De aarde was helemaal leeg. Er was nog niets. De aarde was bedekt met water en het was er helemaal donker. De Geest van God waaide over het diepe water.

3 En God zei: "Ik wil dat er licht is!" Toen was er licht. 4 En God zag dat het licht goed was. God scheidde licht en donker van elkaar. 5 Het licht noemde Hij 'dag' en het donker noemde Hij 'nacht'. Toen werd het avond en weer ochtend: de eerste dag was voorbij.

6 En God zei: "Ik wil dat al het water zich in tweeën verdeelt." 7 Toen verdeelde het water zich in water boven in de lucht en water beneden op de aarde. Zo gebeurde wat Hij zei. 8 Het bovenste deel noemde Hij 'hemel'. Toen werd het avond en weer ochtend: de tweede dag was voorbij.

9 En God zei: "Ik wil dat het water beneden op de aarde naar één plek stroomt, zodat er ook droge grond tevoorschijn komt." Wat Hij zei, gebeurde. 10 De droge grond noemde Hij 'aarde' en het samengestroomde water noemde Hij 'zee'. En God zag dat het goed was.

11 En God zei: "Ik wil dat er uit de aarde gras en allerlei planten en bomen ontstaan. Planten die zaden maken en bomen waar vruchten aan groeien. Alle soorten bomen moeten hun eigen soort vruchten krijgen met zaad er in." Wat Hij zei, gebeurde. 12 Er begon gras op de aarde te groeien en er ontstonden allerlei planten. Elke soort had zijn eigen soort zaad. En de bomen hadden allemaal hun eigen soort vruchten met zaad er in. 13 En God zag dat het goed was. Toen werd het avond en weer ochtend: de derde dag was voorbij.

14 En God zei: "Ik wil dat er lichten aan de hemel komen. Die zullen verschil maken tussen de dag en de nacht. En ze zullen aanwijzingen zijn voor de mensen. Ook zullen ze zorgen voor seizoenen, dagen en jaren. 15 De lichten moeten aan de hemel staan en licht geven op de aarde." Wat Hij zei, gebeurde. 16 God maakte de twee grote lichten. Het grote licht moest overdag schijnen, het kleine licht 's nachts. Ook maakte Hij de sterren. 17 God zette de lichten aan de hemel om licht te geven op de aarde. 18 Ze moesten verschil maken tussen de dag en de nacht, en tussen licht en donker. En God zag dat het goed was. 19 Toen werd het avond en weer ochtend: de vierde dag was voorbij.

20 En God zei: "Ik wil dat het water vol zit met dieren en dat er in de lucht boven de aarde vogels vliegen." 21 Toen maakte God de grote en kleine zeedieren. Het water krioelde ervan. Hij maakte alle dieren verschillend, allemaal verschillende soorten. Ook maakte Hij allerlei vogels, allemaal verschillende soorten. En God zag dat het goed was. 22 God zegende al die dieren en zei: "Krijg veel jongen, zodat er heel veel van jullie komen. De zee moet vol worden met zeedieren en de aarde moet vol worden met vogels." 23 Toen werd het avond en weer ochtend: de vijfde dag was voorbij.

24 En God zei: "Ik wil dat er uit de aarde allerlei dieren ontstaan, allemaal verschillende soorten. Wilde dieren, vee, kruipende dieren, allemaal verschillende soorten." Wat Hij zei, gebeurde. 25 God maakte de wilde dieren, het vee en de kruipende dieren, allemaal verschillende soorten. En God zag dat het goed was.

26 En God zei: "Laten We mensen maken, mensen die op Ons lijken. Ze zullen heel erg op Ons lijken. Ze moeten zorgen voor de vissen in de zee, de vogels in de lucht, het vee, de kruipende dieren en voor de hele aarde." 27 En God maakte de mens. Hij maakte hem zó, dat hij heel veel op Hem leek. De mens leek heel erg op Hem. Hij maakte een man en een vrouw. 28 God zegende hen en zei tegen hen: "Krijg veel kinderen, zodat er heel veel mensen komen. Ga over de hele aarde wonen en heers over de aarde. Zorg voor de vissen in de zee, de vogels in de lucht en de kruipende dieren. 29 Jullie mogen eten van alle planten, bomen en vruchten. 30 Maar alle grote dieren, alle vogels en alle kruipende dieren mogen van het gras eten." De schepping

1 In het begin maakte God de hemelen en de aarde. 2 De aarde was woest en leeg en over de watermassa lag een diepe duisternis. Maar de Geest van God zweefde boven de watermassa.

3 Toen zei God: ‘Laat er licht zijn.’ En toen was er licht. 4 Het beviel God en Hij maakte een duidelijke scheiding tussen het licht en het donker. 5 Het licht noemde Hij ‘dag’ en het donker ‘nacht’. Het werd avond en het werd weer morgen: de eerste dag.

6 Toen zei God: ‘Laat de watermassa uit elkaar gaan, zodat de wolkenhemel en de zeeën worden gevormd.’ 7 Zo maakte God de wolkenhemel, door de watermassa te verdelen tussen hemel en aarde. 8 Het werd avond en het werd weer morgen: de tweede dag.

9 Daarna zei God: ‘Laat het water onder de hemel samenstromen in zeeën en het droge land zichtbaar worden.’ En dat gebeurde. 10 God noemde het droge land ‘aarde’ en het samengestroomde water ‘zeeën’. God zag dat het goed was.

11,12 En God zei: ‘Laten er allerlei gewassen, zaaddragende planten en vruchtbomen met zaad in hun vruchten op aarde groeien. De zaden zullen steeds weer planten en bomen voortbrengen.’ Dat gebeurde en ook nu was het goed, zag God. 13 Het werd avond en weer morgen: de derde dag.

14,15 Toen zei God: ‘Ik wil dat er heldere lichten aan de hemel verschijnen om de aarde te verlichten en het verschil tussen dag en nacht aan te geven. Die lichten zullen de vaste tijden regelen en de dagen en jaren aangeven.’ En zo gebeurde het. 16 God maakte twee grote lichten, de zon en de maan, die de aarde moesten verlichten. Het grootste licht, de zon, beheerste de dag en het kleinere, de maan, beheerste de nacht. Tegelijkertijd maakte God de sterren. 17 Hij plaatste de lichten aan de hemel om de aarde te verlichten, 18 dag en nacht aan te geven en het donker van het licht te scheiden. God zag dat het goed was. 19 Het werd avond en het werd weer morgen: de vierde dag.

20 Vervolgens zei God: ‘Ik wil dat de zeeën wemelen van vis en ander leven en laat de lucht vol zijn met allerlei soorten vogels.’ 21 Zo maakte God de grote zeedieren, allerlei vissen en vogels, elk naar hun eigen aard. En Hij keek er met welgevallen naar 22 en zegende ze. ‘Vermenigvuldig je en bevolk de zeeën,’ zei Hij tegen hen en tegen de vogels zei Hij: ‘Zorg dat jullie aantal groeit, zodat de aarde vol wordt.’ 23 Het werd avond en het werd weer morgen: de vijfde dag.

24 God zei toen: ‘Laat de aarde dieren voortbrengen: vee, kruipende dieren en allerlei wilde dieren.’ En weer gebeurde wat Hij had gezegd. 25 God maakte alle soorten wilde dieren, vee en kruipende dieren, elk naar hun eigen soort. God zag dat ook dat goed was.

26 Toen zei God: ‘Laat Ons mensen maken die op Ons lijken en kunnen heersen over alle dieren op aarde, in de zeeën en in de lucht.’

27 God schiep daarop de mens als zijn evenbeeld. Als man en vrouw schiep Hij hen. 28 God zegende hen en zei: ‘Vermenigvuldig je, bevolk de aarde en onderwerp haar. Heers over de vissen, de vogels en alle andere dieren. 29 Kijk om je heen! Overal op aarde staan zaaddragende planten en vruchtbomen, die Ik jullie tot voedsel geef. 30 Al het gras en de planten heb Ik als voedsel aan de dieren en de vogels gegeven.’

31 Toen overzag God alles wat Hij gemaakt had en het was heel goed. Het werd avond en het werd weer morgen: de zesde dag.

Y hubo luz. 4 Y vio Dios que la luz era buena(I); y separó Dios la luz de las tinieblas(J). 5 Y llamó Dios a la luz día, y a las tinieblas llamó noche(K). Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana(L): un día.

6 Entonces dijo Dios: Haya expansión[d](M) en medio de las aguas, y separe las aguas de las aguas. 7 E hizo Dios la expansión, y separó las aguas que estaban debajo de la expansión(N) de las aguas que estaban sobre la expansión(O). Y fue así. 10 Y llamó Dios a lo seco tierra, y al conjunto de las aguas llamó mares(R). Y vio Dios que era bueno. 11 Y dijo Dios: Produzca la tierra vegetación[e](S): hierbas[f] que den semilla, y árboles frutales que den fruto sobre la tierra según su género[g], con su semilla en él. Y fue así. 12 Y produjo la tierra vegetación[h]: hierbas[i] que dan semilla según su género, y árboles que dan fruto con su semilla en él, según su género. Y vio Dios que era bueno. 13 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el tercer día.

14 Entonces dijo Dios: Haya lumbreras[j](T) en la expansión(U) de los cielos para separar el día de la noche, y sean para señales(V) y para estaciones(W) y para días y para años; 15 y sean por luminarias en la expansión de los cielos para alumbrar sobre la tierra. Y fue así. 16 E hizo Dios las dos grandes lumbreras[k], la lumbrera[l] mayor para dominio del día y la lumbrera[m] menor para dominio de la noche(X); hizo también las estrellas(Y). 17 Y Dios las puso en la expansión de los cielos para alumbrar sobre la tierra(Z), 18 y para dominar en el día y en la noche, y para separar la luz de las tinieblas(AA). Y vio Dios que era bueno. 19 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el cuarto día.

20 Entonces dijo Dios: Llénense[n] las aguas de multitudes de seres vivientes, y vuelen las aves sobre la tierra en la abierta[o] expansión de los cielos. 21 Y creó Dios los grandes monstruos marinos y todo ser viviente que se mueve, de los cuales están llenas[p] las aguas según su género(AB), y toda ave[q] según su género. Y vio Dios que era bueno. 22 Y Dios los bendijo, diciendo: Sed fecundos y multiplicaos, y llenad las aguas en los mares, y multiplíquense las aves en la tierra. 23 Y fue la tarde y fue la mañana: el quinto día.

24 Entonces dijo Dios: Produzca la tierra seres vivientes(AC) según su género: ganados, reptiles y bestias de la tierra según su género. Y fue así. 25 E hizo Dios las bestias de la tierra según su género, y el ganado según su género, y todo lo que se arrastra sobre la tierra según su género(AD). Y vio Dios que era bueno.

Genesis 1
The Voice

Out of nowhere, time, space, and all the living whirl forth as God speaks the universe into existence. With the utterance of His voice, creation takes form, chaos yields to order, light eclipses darkness, and emptiness fills with life. Not long after God creates the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, the story takes a tragic turn when the first couple disobeys the clear instruction from God not to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. As a result, humanity falls from God’s intended perfection. The disastrous consequences of this decisive act are demonstrated in Cain’s murder of Abel, Noah’s flood, and the Tower of Babel.

1 In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below. Here’s what happened: 2 At first the earth lacked shape and was totally empty, and a dark fog draped over the deep while God’s spirit-wind hovered over the surface of the empty waters. Then there was the voice of God.

God: 3 Let there be light.

And light flashed into being. 4 God saw that the light was beautiful and good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God named the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Evening gave way to morning. That was day one.

God: 6 Let there be a vast expanse in the middle of the waters. Let the waters above part from the waters below.

7 So God parted the waters and formed this expanse, separating the waters above from the waters below. It happened just as God said. 8 And God called the vast expanse “sky.” Evening gave way to morning. That was day two.

God: 9 Let the waters below the heavens be collected into one place and congregate into one vast sea, so that dry land may appear.

It happened just as God said. 10 God called the dry land “earth” and the waters congregated below “seas.” And God saw that His new creation was beautiful and good.

God: 11 Earth, sprout green vegetation! Grow all varieties of seed-bearing plants and all sorts of fruit-bearing trees.

It happened just as God said. 12 The earth produced vegetation—seed-bearing plants of all varieties and fruit-bearing trees of all sorts. And God saw that His new creation was beautiful and good. 13 Evening gave way to morning. That was day three.

God: 14-15 Lights, come out! Shine in the vast expanse of heavens’ sky dividing day from night to mark the seasons, days, and years. Lights, warm the earth with your light.

It happened just as God said. 16 God fashioned the two great lights—the brighter to mark the course of day, the dimmer to mark the course of night—and the Divine needled night with the stars. 17 God set them in heavens’ sky to cast warm light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that His new creation was beautiful and good. 19 Evening gave way to morning. That was day four.

God: 20 Waters, swarm with fish and sea creatures. Let birds soar high above the earth in the broad expanse of sky.

21 So God created huge sea creatures, all the swarm of life in the waters, and every kind and species of flying birds—each able to reproduce its own kind. And God saw that His new creation was beautiful and good. 22 And God spoke this blessing over them:

God: Be fruitful and multiply. Let creatures fill the seas. Let birds reproduce and cover the earth.

23 Evening gave way to morning. That was day five.

God: 24 Earth, generate life! Produce a vast variety of living creatures—domesticated animals, small creeping creatures, and wild animals that roam the earth.

It happened just as God said. 25 God made earth-creatures in a vast variety of species: wild animals, domesticated animals of all sizes, and small creeping creatures, each able to reproduce its own kind. God saw that His new creation was beautiful and good. And God paused.

God: 26 Now let Us conceive a new creation—humanity—made in Our image, fashioned according to Our likeness. And let Us grant them authority over all the earth—the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, the domesticated animals and the small creeping creatures on the earth.

27 So God did just that. He created humanity in His image, created them male and female. 28 Then God blessed them and gave them this directive: “Be fruitful and multiply. Populate the earth. I make you trustees of My estate, so care for My creation and rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that roams across the earth.”

The crown of God’s creation is a new creature, a creature that can sound the heartbeat of its Creator. That creature, made male and female, reflects God’s own relational richness. The human family is to join God in the ongoing work of creation. The earth below and the sky above with all their inhabitants are too beautiful and too good to be left alone. They need the tender care and close attention that only God’s favored creature can give.

God (to humanity): 29 Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant that grows on the earth and every fruit-bearing tree. They will be your food and nourishment. 30 As for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and every small creeping creature—everything that breathes the breath of life—I have given them every green plant for food.

And it happened just as God said. 31 Then God surveyed everything He had made, savoring its beauty and appreciating its goodness. Evening gave way to morning. That was day six.

11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation:(AF) seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.(AG)” And it was so.(AH) 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds(AI) and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.(AJ) 13 And there was evening, and there was morning(AK)—the third day.

14 And God said, “Let there be lights(AL) in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night,(AM) and let them serve as signs(AN) to mark sacred times,(AO) and days and years,(AP) 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.(AQ) 16 God made two great lights—the greater light(AR) to govern(AS) the day and the lesser light to govern(AT) the night.(AU) He also made the stars.(AV) 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night,(AW) and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.(AX) 19 And there was evening, and there was morning(AY)—the fourth day.

20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures,(AZ) and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”(BA) 21 So God created(BB) the great creatures of the sea(BC) and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it,(BD) according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.(BE) And God saw that it was good.(BF) 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”(BG) 23 And there was evening, and there was morning(BH)—the fifth day.

24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures(BI) according to their kinds:(BJ) the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.(BK) 25 God made the wild animals(BL) according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds.(BM) And God saw that it was good.(BN)

26 Then God said, “Let us(BO) make mankind(BP) in our image,(BQ) in our likeness,(BR) so that they may rule(BS) over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky,(BT) over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created(BU) mankind(BV) in his own image,(BW)
    in the image of God(BX) he created them;
    male and female(BY) he created them.(BZ)

28 God blessed them and said to them,(CA) “Be fruitful and increase in number;(CB) fill the earth(CC) and subdue it. Rule over(CD) the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.(CE)”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.(CF) 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life(CG) in it—I give every green plant for food.(CH)” And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made,(CI) and it was very good.(CJ) And there was evening, and there was morning(CK)—the sixth day.
