Ang Pagliligtas kay Moises
2 May mag-asawang buhat sa lipi ni Levi 2 na(A) nagkaanak ng isang lalaki. Napakaganda ng bata kaya't tatlong buwan itong itinago ng ina. 3 Nang hindi na siya maaaring itago pa, kumuha ang kanyang ina ng isang basket na yari sa tangkay ng tambo at pinahiran ng alkitran upang hindi pasukin ng tubig. Pagkatapos, inilagay niya rito ang sanggol at inilagay sa talahiban sa may pampang ng ilog. 4 Ang kapatid na babae naman ng sanggol ay tumayo sa di kalayuan upang tingnan kung ano ang mangyayari.
5 Maliligo noon sa ilog ang anak na babae ng Faraon. Natanaw niya ang basket kaya't ito'y ipinakuha niya sa isa sa kanyang mga katulong na naglalakad-lakad naman sa tabing ilog. 6 Nang maiabot sa kanya ang basket, inalis niya ang takip nito at nakita ang batang umiiyak. Naawa siya at kanyang nasabi, “Ito'y anak ng isang Hebrea.”
7 Ang kapatid naman ng bata ay lumapit sa prinsesa at kanyang sinabi, “Kung gusto po ninyo, ihahanap ko kayo ng isang Hebreang mag-aalaga sa sanggol na iyan.”
8 “Sige, ihanap mo ako,” sagot ng prinsesa. Umalis ang batang babae at tinawag ang mismong ina ng bata. 9 Nang dumating ito, sinabi ng prinsesa, “Alagaan mo ang sanggol na ito at uupahan kita.” Kinuha ng ina ang sanggol at inalagaan. 10 Nang(B) malaki na ang bata, dinala siya ng kanyang ina sa prinsesa, at siya'y itinuring na anak nito. Sinabi niya, “Iniahon ko siya sa tubig, kaya Moises[a] ang ipapangalan ko sa kanya.”
Tumakas si Moises
11 Nang(C) (D) binata na si Moises, dinalaw niya ang kanyang mga kababayan at nakita niya ang hirap na tinitiis ng mga ito dahil sa mabibigat na gawain. Nakita pa niyang sinasaktan ng isang Egipcio ang isang Hebreo. 12 Tumitingin-tingin siya sa paligid. Nang wala siyang makitang tao, pinatay niya ang Egipcio at tinabunan ito ng buhangin. 13 Nagbalik siya kinabukasan at may nakita siyang dalawang Hebreong nag-aaway. Tinanong niya ang may kasalanan, “Bakit mo sinasaktan ang kapwa mo Hebreo?”
14 “Sino ang nagbigay sa iyo ng kapangyarihang mangasiwa at humatol sa amin? Papatayin mo rin ba ako, tulad ng ginawa mo sa Egipcio?” tanong nito sa kanya. Natakot si Moises nang marinig niya ito at noon niya nabatid na may nakakita pala sa ginawa niya sa Egipcio. 15 Nakarating(E) ang balita kay Faraon kaya ibig niyang ipapatay si Moises, ngunit ito'y nakatakas at nakarating sa Midian.
Pagdating sa Midian, naupo siya sa tabi ng isang balon. 16 Dumating naman ang pitong anak na babae ng pari roon upang sumalok ng tubig at painumin ang kawan ng kanilang ama. 17 Ngunit may dumating na mga pastol at itinaboy sila. Nakita ni Moises ang pangyayari kaya sinaklolohan niya ang mga babae at tinulungang magpainom sa kawan. 18 Maagang nakauwi ang mga babae, kaya tinanong sila ng kanilang amang si Reuel, “Bakit maaga kayo ngayon?”
19 “Mangyari po, ipinagtanggol kami ng isang Egipcio laban sa mga pastol. Isinalok niya kami ng tubig at pagkatapos pinainom pa niya ang kawan,” sagot nila.
20 “Nasaan siya? Bakit di ninyo isinama rito at nang makasalo natin sa pagkain?” tanong ng ama. At ipinatawag nga si Moises.
21 Mula noon, doon na nanirahan si Moises at ipinakasal sa kanya ni Jetro ang anak nitong si Zipora. 22 Dumating ang araw na si Zipora'y nanganak ng isang lalaki. Sabi ni Moises, “Ako'y dayuhan sa lupang ito, kaya tatawagin kong Gersom[b] ang batang ito.”
23 Pagkalipas ng mahabang panahon, namatay ang Faraon ngunit dumaraing pa rin ang mga Israelita sa patuloy na pang-aalipin sa kanila ng mga Egipcio. 24 Narinig(F) ng Diyos ang kanilang daing at naalala niya ang ginawa niyang kasunduan kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob. 25 Nakita niya ang kalagayan ng mga Israelita at siya'y nahabag sa kanila.

Mojsijevo rođenje
2 Neki se čovjek iz Levijevog plemena oženio Levitkinjom. 2 Ona je zatrudnjela i rodila sina. Kad je bila vidjela kako je dijete lijepo, skrivala ga je tri mjeseca, zbog faraonove zapovijedi. 3 No više ga nije mogla skrivati pa je nabavila košaru od papirusove trske te je oblijepila katranom i smolom. Položila je dijete u košaru i stavila je među trsku na obali Nila, 4 a njegova je sestra promatrala s udaljenosti, da vidi što će se dogoditi s njim.
5 Faraonova je kći sišla do Nila da bi se okupala, dok su njezine sluškinje šetale obalom. Vidjela je košaru među trskom i poslala jednu sluškinju da je donese. 6 Kad je otvorila košaru, ugledala je dijete. Dijete je plakalo pa se ona sažalila i rekla: »To je sigurno jedno od hebrejske djece.«
7 Tada joj je prišla djetetova sestra i rekla: »Želite li da dovedem jednu Hebrejku da vam doji dijete?«
8 »Da«, odgovorila je faraonova kći.
I djevojka ode i dovede djetetovu majku.
9 »Uzmi ovo dijete i doji ga za mene«, rekla joj je faraonova kći, »a ja ću ti plaćati za to.«
Žena je uzela dijete pa ga dojila.
10 Kad je dječak porastao, odvela ga je faraonovoj kćeri, a ona ga je usvojila i dala mu ime Mojsije[a] jer ga je izvukla iz vode.
Mojsije bježi u Midjan
11 Jednoga dana, kad je već odrastao, Mojsije je otišao među svoj narod i vidio kako teško rade pod prisilom. Opazio je kako jedan Egipćanin tuče Hebreja, njegovog sunarodnjaka. 12 Osvrnuo se naokolo, pa kad je vidio da nema nikoga, udario je Egipćanina i ubio ga. Zatim ga je zakopao u pijesak.
13 Kad je sutradan ponovo izašao, ugledao je dvojicu Hebreja kako se tuku. Upitao je napadača: »Zašto tučeš svog sunarodnjaka?«
14 On mu odgovori: »Tko je tebe postavio za vladara i suca nad nama? Želiš li i mene ubiti kao što si ubio onog Egipćanina?« Tada se Mojsije uplašio i pomislio: »Saznalo se što sam učinio!«
15 Faraon je, saznavši za to, htio pogubiti Mojsija. Tada je on pobjegao od faraona i otišao živjeti u zemlju Midjan.
Mojsije se ženi Siporom
Dok je sjedio pokraj jednog bunara, 16 sedam kćeri midjanskog svećenika došle su zahvatiti vode iz bunara da bi napunile pojila za stado svoga oca. 17 Tada su došli neki pastiri i otjerali ih. No Mojsije je ustao u njihovu obranu pa im napojio stado.
18 Kad su se vratile, njihov ih je otac Reuel upitao: »Kako to da ste se danas tako rano vratile?«
19 »Jedan nas je Egipćanin obranio od pastira«, odgovorile su, »pa nam je još i vode zahvatio i napojio nam stado.«
20 »Pa gdje je on?« upita dalje kćeri. »Zašto ste ga ostavile? Pozovite ga da jede s nama.«
21 Mojsije je pristao ostati kod tog čovjeka, a on mu je dao svoju kćer Siporu za ženu. 22 Ona je rodila sina, a Mojsije mu je dao ime Geršom[b], rekavši: »jer sam stranac u tuđoj zemlji.«
Izraelci vape Bogu
23 Nakon mnogo vremena umro je egipatski kralj. Izraelci su stenjali u ropstvu i vapili za pomoć, a njihovo je zapomaganje doprlo do Boga. 24 Bog je čuo njihove vapaje i sjetio se svog saveza s Abrahamom, Izakom i Jakovom. 25 Bog je vidio Izraelce i znao je da pate.

2 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.
7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.
9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
22 And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

The Birth of Moses
2 Now a man of the tribe of Levi(A) married a Levite woman,(B) 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine(C) child, she hid him for three months.(D) 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus(E) basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch.(F) Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds(G) along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister(H) stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.
5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank.(I) She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.
7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”
8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named(J) him Moses,[b] saying, “I drew(K) him out of the water.”
Moses Flees to Midian
11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people(L) were and watched them at their hard labor.(M) He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12 Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?”(N)
14 The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us?(O) Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.”
15 When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill(P) Moses, but Moses fled(Q) from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian,(R) where he sat down by a well. 16 Now a priest of Midian(S) had seven daughters, and they came to draw water(T) and fill the troughs(U) to water their father’s flock. 17 Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue(V) and watered their flock.(W)
18 When the girls returned to Reuel(X) their father, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early today?”
19 They answered, “An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
20 “And where is he?” Reuel asked his daughters. “Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat.”(Y)
21 Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah(Z) to Moses in marriage. 22 Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom,[c](AA) saying, “I have become a foreigner(AB) in a foreign land.”
23 During that long period,(AC) the king of Egypt died.(AD) The Israelites groaned in their slavery(AE) and cried out, and their cry(AF) for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered(AG) his covenant(AH) with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned(AI) about them.
