For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater(A)—has any inheritance(B) in the kingdom of Christ and of God.[a](C) Let no one deceive you(D) with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath(E) comes on those who are disobedient.(F) Therefore do not be partners with them.

For you were once(G) darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light(H) (for the fruit(I) of the light consists in all goodness,(J) righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.(K) 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness,(L) but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light(M) becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

  1. Ephesians 5:5 Or kingdom of the Messiah and God

For you may be sure of this, that (A)everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous ((B)that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (C)Let no one (D)deceive you with empty words, for because of these things (E)the wrath of God comes upon (F)the sons of disobedience. Therefore (G)do not become partners with them; for (H)at one time you were (I)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. (J)Walk as children of light (for (K)the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and (L)try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 (M)Take no part in the (N)unfruitful (O)works of darkness, but instead (P)expose them. 12 For (Q)it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when (R)anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

(S)“Awake, O sleeper,
    and (T)arise from the dead,
and (U)Christ will shine on you.”
