다윗의 인구 조사
24 여호와께서다시이스라엘백 성에게분노하시자다윗은 “가 서 이스라엘과 유다의 인구를 조사하 라” 는 [a]충동을받게되었다.
2 그래서 그는 그의 군대 총사령관인 요 압에게 “너는 단에서 브엘세바까지 전 국을 돌아다니면서 인구를 조사하여 나에게 보고하라” 하고 명령하였다.
3 그러나 요압은 이렇게 대답하였다. “왕의 하나님 여호와께서 이 백성의 수를지금보다백배나더많게하시 고또왕이그날까지사시기를바랍 니다. 그런데왕은어째서이런일을 하려고 하십니까?”
4 그러나 왕이 강압적으로 나오자 요압 과군지휘관들은하는수없이이스 라엘의 인구를 조사하려고 왕 앞에서 물러나왔다.
5 그들은 먼저 요단강을 건너 야셀 부근 의갓골짜기한가운데있는성남쪽 의 아로엘 부근에 숙소를 정했으며
6 거기서 그들은 다시 길르앗과 닷딤-홋시 땅으로 가서 단-야안에 이르고 시돈을 돌아
7 두로의 요새를 거쳐 히위 사람과 가나 안사람의모든성을다다녔으며마 지막으로 그들은 유다의 남쪽 지방인 브엘세바까지 가서 인구 조사를 하였 다.
8 이와 같이 그들은 전국을 두루 다니면 서 9개월 20일 만에 인구 조사를 마치 고 예루살렘으로 돌아와서
9 왕에게 그 결과를 보고했는데 전쟁에 나가 싸울 수 있는 사람들이 이스라엘 에서 80만, 유다에서 50만이었다.

24 주께서 이스라엘에 대해 다시 진노하셨다. 그리하여 다윗의 마음을 부추기어 백성에게 해로운 일을 하게 하셨다. 주께서 다윗에게 “너는 가서 이스라엘과 유다의 인구를 조사하여라.”라고 말씀하셨다.
2 그리하여 다윗은 요압과 군대 사령관들[a]에게 명령하였다. “단에서 브엘세바까지[b] 이스라엘의 모든 가문을 두루 돌며 군 복무를 할 수 있는 남자들을 등록하시오. 그 수가 얼마나 되는지 내가 알아야겠소.”
3 그러나 요압이 왕에게 대답하였다. “임금님의 주 하나님께서 군사들을 지금보다 백 배나 많게 하시고, 또 임금님께서 그것을 직접 눈으로 보시게 되기를 바랍니다. 그러나 임금님께서는 어찌하여 이런 일을 하시려 합니까?”
4 그러나 왕의 명령이 요압과 군대 사령관들을 눌렀다. 그들은 어쩔 수 없이 왕 앞에서 물러나와 군 복무를 할 수 있는 이스라엘 남자들의 수를 조사하러 갔다.
5 그들은 요단 강을 건넌 다음 아로엘 성과 갓 골짜기 한 가운데 있는 성읍에서 시작하여 야셀로 나아갔다[c]. 6 그 다음에 그들은 동쪽으로 길르앗과 닷딤홋시까지 갔다. 그런 다음 북쪽으로 가서 다냐안에 이르렀다가 두루 돌아 시돈에 이르렀다. 7 그들은 또 두로 요새와 히위 사람들과 가나안 사람들의 모든 성읍을 돌았다. 그리고 마침내 유다의 남쪽에 있는 브엘세바로 갔다.
8 그들은 온 나라를 두루 돌고 아홉 달 스무 날 만에 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.
9 요압이 왕에게 군인들의 수를 보고하니 칼을 쓸 수 있는 사람이 이스라엘에 팔십만 명, 유다에 오십만 명 있었다.

David Enrolls the Fighting Men(A)
24 Again(B) the anger of the Lord burned against Israel,(C) and he incited David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of(D) Israel and Judah.”
2 So the king said to Joab(E) and the army commanders[a] with him, “Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba(F) and enroll(G) the fighting men, so that I may know how many there are.”
3 But Joab(H) replied to the king, “May the Lord your God multiply the troops a hundred times over,(I) and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?”
4 The king’s word, however, overruled Joab and the army commanders; so they left the presence of the king to enroll the fighting men of Israel.
5 After crossing the Jordan, they camped near Aroer,(J) south of the town in the gorge, and then went through Gad and on to Jazer.(K) 6 They went to Gilead and the region of Tahtim Hodshi, and on to Dan Jaan and around toward Sidon.(L) 7 Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre(M) and all the towns of the Hivites(N) and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba(O) in the Negev(P) of Judah.
8 After they had gone through the entire land, they came back to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.(Q)
