8 Bij het horen van dat nieuws zei de koning tegen Hazaël: ‘Breng een geschenk naar de man van God en verzoek hem de Here te vragen of ik weer beter zal worden.’
9 Hazaël ging met veertig kameelladingen van de beste producten uit Damascus als geschenk naar Elisa en zei tegen hem: ‘Koning Benhadad van Syrië heeft mij gestuurd om u te vragen of hij van deze ziekte zal genezen.’ 10 Elisa antwoordde: ‘Ga terug en zeg tegen hem: u zult niet van deze ziekte genezen, want de Here heeft mij laten zien dat u spoedig zult sterven.’

8 he said to Hazael,(A) “Take a gift(B) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult(C) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’(D) Nevertheless,[a] the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.”
