1 Thessalonians 2:4-8
New American Standard Bible 1995
4 (A)but just as we have been approved by God to be (B)entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, (C)not as pleasing men, but God who [a](D)examines our hearts. 5 For we never came [b]with flattering speech, as you know, nor with (E)a pretext for greed—(F)God is witness— 6 nor did we (G)seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as (H)apostles of Christ [c]we might have [d]asserted our authority. 7 But we [e]proved to be [f](I)gentle [g]among you, (J)as a nursing mother [h]tenderly cares for her own children. 8 Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to (K)impart to you not only the (L)gospel of God but also our own [i]lives, because you had become [j]very dear to us.
