Offerings for building the temple
29 Then King David said to the whole assembly:
My son Solomon, the one whom God chose, is too inexperienced for this great task, since this temple won’t be for humans but for the Lord God. 2 Using every resource at my disposal, I’ve provided everything for my God’s temple: gold for gold objects, silver for silver objects, bronze for bronze objects, iron for iron objects, lumber for wooden objects, carnelian stones for settings, antimony, colorful stones, every kind of precious stone, and a large amount of marble. 3 What’s more, because of my delight in my God’s temple, I have dedicated my own private treasure of gold and silver to my God’s temple, in addition to all that I’ve provided for the holy temple: 4 three thousand kikkars of gold from the gold of Ophir, seven thousand kikkars of refined silver for covering the walls of the rooms,[a] 5 gold for gold objects, and silver for silver objects, to be used for everything the skilled workers will make. Who else, then, will volunteer, dedicating themselves to the Lord today?
6 Then the leaders of the households, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of the units of a thousand and a hundred, and the supervisors of the king’s work volunteered 7 to give five thousand kikkars and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand kikkars of silver, eighteen thousand kikkars of bronze, and one hundred thousand kikkars of iron for the work on God’s temple. 8 Anyone who had precious stones donated them to the treasury of the Lord’s temple under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 The people rejoiced at this response, because they had presented their offerings to the Lord so willingly and wholeheartedly. King David also rejoiced greatly.
10 Then David blessed the Lord before the whole assembly:
Blessed are you, Lord,
God of our ancestor Israel,
forever and always.
11 To you, Lord, belong greatness and power,
honor, splendor, and majesty,
because everything in heaven and on earth belongs to you.
Yours, Lord, is the kingship,
and you are honored as head of all.
12 You are the source of wealth and honor,
and you rule over all.
In your hand are strength and might,
and it is in your power to magnify and strengthen all.
13 And now, our God, we thank you
and praise your glorious name.
14 Who am I,
and who are my people,
that we should be able to offer so willingly?
Since everything comes from you,
we have given you that which comes from your own hand.
15 To be sure, we are like all our ancestors,
immigrants without permanent homes.
Our days are like a shadow on the ground,
and there’s no hope.
16 Lord, our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a temple for your holy name comes from your hand and belongs to you. 17 Since I know, my God, that you examine the mind and take delight in honesty, I have freely given all these things with the highest of motives. And now I’ve been delighted to see your people here offering so willingly to you.
18 Lord, God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep these thoughts in the mind of your people forever, and direct their hearts toward you.
19 As for Solomon my son, give him the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, laws, and regulations—observing all of them—and to build the temple that I have prepared.
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Bless the Lord your God,” and the whole assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their ancestors, bowed down, and worshipped before the Lord and the king. 21 On the very next day they offered sacrifices and entirely burned offerings to the Lord—a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings—and many other sacrifices for all Israel’s sake. 22 They ate and drank with great joy before the Lord that day and made David’s son Solomon the king.[b] They anointed him[c] in the Lord’s presence as prince, and Zadok as priest. 23 Thus Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king, succeeding his father David, and he prospered. All Israel obeyed him, 24 and all the commanders and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, submitted to King Solomon’s authority. 25 Moreover, the Lord magnified Solomon before all Israel, giving him such royal majesty as no king before him[d] had enjoyed.
Summary of David’s reign
26 David, Jesse’s son, was king over all Israel. 27 He reigned over Israel for forty years: seven years in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed a full life, wealth, and honor; and his son Solomon followed him as king. 29 The account of King David from beginning to end is written in the records of Samuel the seer, Nathan the prophet, and Gad the visionary, 30 including everything concerning his powerful rule, and what happened to him, to Israel, and to all the kingdoms in other lands.

Gifts for Building the Temple
29 King David spoke to all the Israelites who were gathered. He said, “God chose my son Solomon. Solomon is young and hasn’t yet learned what he needs to know. But the work is important. This palace is not for people. It is for the Lord God. 2 I have done my best to prepare for building the Temple of God. I have given gold for the things made of gold. I have given silver for the things made of silver. I have given bronze for the things made of bronze. I have given iron for the things made of iron. I have given wood for the things made of wood. I have given onyx for the settings and turquoise. I have given gems of many different colors. I have given valuable stones and white marble. I have given much of all these things. 3 I have already given this for the Temple. But now I am also giving my own treasures of gold and silver. I am doing this because I really want the Temple of my God to be built. 4 I have given about 220,000 pounds of pure gold from Ophir. And I have given about 520,000 pounds of pure silver. They will be used to cover the walls of the buildings. 5 They will also be used for all the gold and silver work. Skilled men may use the gold and silver to make things for the Temple. Now, who is ready to give himself to the service of the Lord today?”
6 The family leaders and the leaders of the tribes of Israel gave their valuable things. The commanders of 1,000 men and of 100 men gave their valuable things. And the leaders responsible for the king’s work gave their valuable things. 7 These are the things they gave for the Temple of God: about 380,000 pounds of gold, about 750,000 pounds of silver, about 1,350,000 pounds of bronze and about 7,500,000 pounds of iron. 8 People who had valuable gems gave them to the treasury of the Temple of the Lord. Jehiel, from the Gershon family, took care of the valuable gems. 9 The leaders gave freely and completely to the Lord. The people were happy to see their leaders give so gladly. King David was also very happy.
David’s Prayer
10 David praised the Lord in front of all of the people who were gathered. He said:
“We praise you, Lord.
You are the God of our father Israel.
We praise you forever and ever.
11 Lord, you are great and powerful.
You have glory, victory and honor.
Everything in heaven and on earth belongs to you.
The kingdom belongs to you, Lord.
You are the ruler over everything.
12 Riches and honor come from you.
You rule everything.
You have the power and strength
to make anyone great and strong.
13 Now, our God, we thank you.
And we praise your glorious name.
14 “These things did not really come from me and my people.
Everything comes from you.
We have given you back what you gave us.
15 We are like foreigners and strangers.
All our ancestors were also foreigners and strangers.
Our time on earth is like a shadow.
There is no hope.
16 Lord our God, we have gathered all this to build your Temple.
We will build it for worship to you.
But everything has come from you.
Everything belongs to you.
17 I know, my God, that you test people’s hearts.
You are happy when people do what is right.
I was happy to give all these things.
I gave with an honest heart.
Your people gathered here are happy to give to you.
I am happy to see their giving.
18 Lord, you are the God of our ancestors.
You are the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Please help your people to want to serve you always.
And help them to want to obey you always.
19 Give my son Solomon a strong desire to serve you.
Help him always obey your commands, laws and rules.
Help him build the Temple
for which I have prepared.”
20 Then David said to all the people who were gathered, “Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God their ancestors worshiped. They bowed to the ground to give honor to the Lord and the king.
Solomon Becomes King
21 The next day the people made sacrifices to the Lord. They offered burnt offerings to him. They offered 1,000 bulls, 1,000 male sheep and 1,000 male lambs. They also brought drink offerings. Many sacrifices were made for all the people of Israel. 22 That day the people ate and drank with much joy. And the Lord was with them.
And they made David’s son Solomon king for the second time. They poured olive oil on Solomon to appoint him king. And they poured oil on Zadok to appoint him as priest. They did this in the presence of the Lord. 23 Then Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king. He took his father David’s place. Solomon was very successful. And all the people of Israel obeyed him. 24 All the leaders and soldiers and King David’s sons accepted Solomon as king. They promised to obey him. 25 The Lord made Solomon great before all the Israelites. The Lord gave Solomon much honor. No king of Israel before Solomon had such honor.
David’s Death
26 David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27 He was king for 40 years. He ruled in the city of Hebron for 7 years. And he ruled in Jerusalem for 33 years. 28 David died when he was old. He had lived a good, long life. He had received many riches and honors. And David’s son Solomon became king after him.
29 Everything King David did as king, from beginning to end, is recorded. Those things are written in the records of Samuel the seer. And they are in the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer. 30 Those writings tell what David did as king of Israel. They tell about his power and all that happened to him. And they tell what happened to Israel and all the kingdoms around them.

大卫颂赞耶和华
10 大卫在会众面前颂赞耶和华，说：“我们先祖以色列的上帝耶和华啊，你永永远远当受颂赞！ 11 耶和华啊，伟大、权能、荣耀、尊贵和威严都是你的，天上地下的一切都是你的。耶和华啊，国度是你的，你是万有的主宰。 12 富贵和尊荣都从你而来，你掌管一切，你手中有权能和力量，能使人尊大、强盛。 13 我们的上帝啊，我们称颂你，赞美你荣耀的名。
14 “我算什么，我的人民算什么，怎么配向你奉献？因为万物都从你而来，我们只是把从你那里得来的献给你。 15 我们在你面前只是客旅，是寄居的，像我们祖先一样；我们在世的日子就像影子一样转瞬即逝。 16 我们的上帝耶和华啊，我们为你的圣名建造殿宇所预备的这一切财物都是从你那里来的，都属于你。 17 我的上帝啊，我知道你洞察人心，喜爱正直的人。我怀着正直的心甘愿献上这一切，我也看见你这里的子民甘心乐意地将财物献给你。 18 我们祖先亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝耶和华啊！求你使你的子民常存这样的心志，使他们的心忠于你。 19 求你赐给我儿所罗门忠诚的心，以遵行你的诫命、法度和律例，用我预备的材料全力建造殿宇。”

所罗门被立为王
21 次日，他们向耶和华献祭。他们代表全以色列献上一千头公牛、一千只公绵羊、一千只羊羔作燔祭，同时还献上奠祭及许多其他祭。 22 那一天，他们在耶和华面前欢欢喜喜地吃喝。
他们再次拥立大卫的儿子所罗门做王，在耶和华面前膏立他做首领，又膏立撒督做祭司。 23 于是，所罗门登上了耶和华所赐的王位，接替他父亲大卫做王。他凡事亨通，以色列众人都服从他， 24 众首领、勇士以及大卫王的众子都效忠于他。 25 耶和华使所罗门倍受以色列人尊崇，赐他君王的威严，超过在他之前的所有以色列王。
大卫去世
26 耶西的儿子大卫是全以色列的王， 27 他在以色列执政共四十年：在希伯仑执政七年，在耶路撒冷执政三十三年。 28 大卫年纪老迈，享尽富贵尊荣后，寿终正寝。他儿子所罗门继位。 29 大卫王一生的事迹都记在撒母耳先见、拿单先知和迦得先见的史记上。 30 书中记述了他的政绩和英勇事迹，以及他和以色列及列国所遭遇的事。
