1 Chronicles 11:2-4
New English Translation
2 In the past, even when Saul was king, you were Israel’s commanding general.[a] The Lord your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel; you will rule over my people Israel.’” 3 When all the leaders[b] of Israel came to the king at Hebron, David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord. They anointed David king over Israel, in keeping with the Lord’s message that came through Samuel.[c]
David Conquers Jerusalem
4 David and the whole Israelite army[d] advanced to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus).[e] (The Jebusites, the land’s original inhabitants, lived there.)[f]

New International Version
2 In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns.(A) And the Lord your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd(B) my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.(C)’”
3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed(D) David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.
