24 وَبَعْدَ خَمْسَةِ أيَّامٍ نَزَلَ رَئِيسُ الكَهَنَةِ حَنَانِيَّا إلَى قَيصَرِيَّةَ مَعَ بَعْضِ الشُّيُوخِ وَمُحَامٍ اسْمُهُ تَرْتُلُّسَ. فَعَرَضُوا تُهَمَهُمْ ضِدَّ بُولُسَ أمَامَ الوَالِي. 2 وَعِنْدَمَا استُدعِيَ بُولُسُ، بَدَأ تَرْتُلُّسُ يُقَدِّمُ التُّهَمَ أمَامَ فِيلِكْسَ فَقَالَ: «إنَّنَا نَتَمَتَّعُ بِقِسطٍ وَافِرٍ مِنَ السَّلَامِ بِسَبَبِكَ، وَالإصلَاحَاتُ الَّتِي أُدخِلَتْ مِنْ أجْلِ هَذَا الشَّعْبِ كَانَتْ بِفَضْلِ بُعدِ نَظَرِكَ. 3 نَحْنُ نُرَحِّبُ بِهَذَا يَا صَاحِبَ السَّعَادَةِ فِيلِكسَ، بِكُلِّ طَرِيقَةٍ وَفِي كُلِّ مَكَانٍ، وَكُلِّ امتِنَانٍ. 4 لَكِنْ لِئَلَّا أُثقِلَ عَلَيْكَ أكْثَرَ، فَإنِّي أرْجُو أنْ تَتَلَطَّفَ بِالاسْتِمَاعِ إلَى كَلِمَتِي المُوجَزَةَ. 5 فَقَدْ وَجَدنَا هَذَا الرَّجُلَ مَصْدَرَ إزعَاجٍ. وَهُوَ يُثِيرُ الشَّغَبَ بَيْنَ اليَهُودِ فِي كُلِّ أنْحَاءِ العَالَمِ. وَهُوَ مِنْ قَادَةِ مَذهَبِ النَّاصِرِيِّينَ. 6 كَمَا أنَّهُ حَاوَلَ أنْ يُنَجِّسَ الهَيْكَلَ، لَكِنَّنَا أمْسَكنَا بِهِ، وَأرَدْنَا أنْ نُحَاكِمَهُ بِحَسَبِ شَريعَتِنَا. 7 لَكِنَّ الآمِرَ لِيسيَاسَ جَاءَ وَانْتَزَعَهُ مِنْ أيدِينَا بِقُوَّةٍ، 8 وَأمَرَ المُشتَكِينَ عَليهِ بَأنْ يَأتُوا إليكَ. فَحِينَ تُحَقِّقُ مَعَهُ بِنَفْسِكَ، سَتَعْلَمُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي نَتَّهِمُهُ بِهَا.» 9 وَانْضَمَّ إلَيْهِ اليَهُودُ فِي تَوْجِيهِ الاتِّهَامَاتِ، مُؤَكِّدِينَ أنَّ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الاتِّهَامَاتِ صَحِيحَةٌ.
بُولُسُ يُدَافِعُ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ أمَامَ فِيلِكس
10 فَلَمَّا أشَارَ الوَالِي لِبُولُسَ أنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أنَا أعْرِفُ أنَّكَ قَاضٍ لِهَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ مُنْذُ سَنَوَاتٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، لِذَلِكَ يَسُرُّنِي أنْ أُدَافِعَ عَنْ نَفْسِي أمَامَكَ. 11 وَيُمكِنُكَ أنْ تَتَحَقَّقَ مِنْ صِحَّةِ مَا أقُولُ. لَمْ يَمْضِ عَلَى ذَهَابِي إلَى القُدْسِ لِلعِبَادَةِ أكْثَرَ مِنِ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ يَومًا. 12 وَلَمْ يَجِدُونِي أُجَادِلُ أحَدًا فِي سَاحَةِ الهَيْكَلِ. وَلَا وَجَدُونِي أُهَيِّجُ النَّاسَ لَا فِي المَجَامِعِ وَلَا فِي أيِّ مَكَانٍ آخَرَ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ. 13 وَهُمْ لَا يَقْدِرُونَ أنْ يُثبِتُوا لَكَ صِحَّةَ الاتِّهَامَاتِ الَّتِي يُوَجِّهُونَهَا ضِدِّي.
14 «غَيْرَ أنِّي أعتَرِفُ لَكَ بِأنِّي أعبُدُ إلَهَ آبَائِنَا حَسَبَ ‹الطَّرِيقِ›[a] الَّذِي يَعْتَبِرُونَهُ هَرطَقَةً. وَأنَا أُومِنُ بِكُلِّ مَا تَقُولُهُ الشَّرِيعَةُ وَمَا هُوَ مَكْتُوبٌ فِي كُتُبِ الأنْبِيَاءِ. 15 وَأنَا أشتَرِكُ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ الرِّجَالِ أنْفُسِهِمْ فِي الرَّجَاءِ بِاللهِ. وَهَذَا الرَّجَاءُ هُوَ أنَّهُ سَتَكُونُ هُنَاكَ قِيَامَةٌ لِلصَّالِحِينَ وَالأشرَارِ مَعًا. 16 وَلِهَذَا فَإنِّي أُدَرِّبُ نَفْسِي دَائِمًا لِيَكُونَ ضَمِيرِي بِلَا لَومٍ أمَامَ اللهِ وَالنَّاسِ.
17 «فَبَعْدَ غِيَابِ عِدَّةِ سَنَوَاتٍ، رَجِعتُ إلَى القُدْسِ لِأُحضِرَ تَبَرُّعَاتٍ لِلفُقَرَاءَ مِنْ جَمَاعَتِي، وَلِأُقَدِّمَ تَقْدِمَاتٍ للهِ. 18 وَبَيْنَمَا كُنْتُ أفْعَلُ هَذَا، وَجَدُونِي فِي سَاحَةِ الهَيْكَلِ أُكمِلُ طَقسَ التَّطهِيرِ. وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُنَاكَ جَمعٌ وَلَا حَدَثَ شَغَبٌ. 19 بَلْ كَانَ بَعْضُ اليَهُودِ مِنْ أسِيَّا مَوجُودِينَ هُنَاكَ. أُولَئِكَ يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَأْتُوا إلَيْكَ، وَيُقَدِّمُوا اتِّهَامَهُمْ، إنْ كَانَ لَدَيهِمْ شَيءٌ ضِدِّي. 20 أوْ لِيَتَحَدَّثْ هَؤُلَاءِ الحَاضِرُونَ هُنَا عَنْ أيَّةِ جَرِيمَةٍ أثبَتُوهَا عَلَيَّ عِنْدَمَا وَقَفتُ أمَامَ المَجلِسِ اليَهُودِيِّ. 21 رُبَّمَا اعتَبَرُونِي مُذْنِبًا بِسَبَبِ الجُملَةِ الوَحِيدَةِ الَّتِي قُلْتُهَا هُنَاكَ عَلَى مَسمَعٍ مِنْهُمْ. فَقَدْ قُلْتُ: ‹أنْتُمْ تُحَاكِمُونَنِي اليَوْمَ عَلَى أسَاسِ إيمَانِي بِقِيَامَةِ الأمْوَاتِ.›»
22 ثُمَّ قَرَّرَ فِيلِكسُ الَّذِي كَانَ مُطَّلِعًا اطِّلَاعًا جَيِّدًا عَلَى «الطَّرِيقِ،» أنْ يُؤَجِّلَ الجَلسَةَ، وَقَالَ: «حِينَ يَأتِي الآمِرُ لِيسْيَاسُ، سَأبِتُّ فِي قَضِيَّتِكَ.» 23 وَأمَرَ الضَّابِطَ[b] بِأنْ يُبقِيَهُ تَحْتَ الحِرَاسَةِ مَعَ مَنحِهِ بَعْضَ الحُرِّيَّةِ. كَمَا أمَرَهُ بِأنْ لَا يُمنَعَ أصدِقَاءُ بُولُسَ مِنَ الاهْتِمَامِ بِحَاجَاتِهِ.
بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ إلَى فِيلِكسَ وَزَوْجَتِه
24 وَبَعْدَ عِدَّةِ أيَّامٍ جَاءَ فِيلِكسُ وَمَعَهُ زَوْجَتُهُ دُرُوسِّلَا. وَكَانَتْ زَوْجَتُهُ يَهُودِيَّةً. فَاسْتُدْعِيَ بُولُسُ، وَاستَمَعَ فِيلِكسُ إلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنْ إيمَانِهِ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. 25 لَكِنْ بَيْنَمَا كَانَ بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنِ البِرِّ وَضَبْطِ النَّفسِ وَالدَّينُونَةِ الآتِيَةِ، خَافَ فِيلِكسُ وَقَالَ لِبُولُسَ: «انصَرِفِ الآنَ، وَحِينَ تُتَاحُ لِي فُرصَةٌ سَأستَدْعِيكَ.» 26 وَكَانَ فِي الوَقْتِ نَفْسِهِ يَأْمَلُ أنْ يُعطِيَهُ بُولُسُ رِشْوَةً مَالِيَّةً. فَكَانَ يَسْتَدْعِيهِ كَثِيرًا وَيَتَحَدَّثُ إلَيْهِ.
27 وَبَعْدَ مُرُورِ عَامَينِ، خَلَفَهُ بُورْكيُوسَ فِسْتُوسَ وَالِيًا. وَتَرَكَ فِيلِكسُ بُولُسَ مَسجُونًا، لِأنَّهُ كَانَ يُرِيدُ أنْ يُرضِيَ اليَهُودَ.

Paolo davanti ai Romani
24 Cinque giorni dopo, il sommo sacerdote Ananìa arrivò accompagnato da alcuni Giudei e da un avvocato, Tertullo dal Ponto. Si presentarono tutti davanti al governatore per accusare Paolo. 2 Dopo che ebbero mandato a chiamare Paolo, Tertullo cominciò così la sua accusa:
«Eccellentissimo Felice, 3 riconosciamo con profonda gratitudine che tu hai dato a noi Giudei pace e tranquillità, per non parlare delle riforme che hai fatto per il bene di questa nazione. 4 Ma non voglio annoiarti, e ti chiedo soltanto un momento di attenzione per presentarti i nostri capi dʼaccusa contro questʼuomo. 5 Secondo il nostro parere, costui è un individuo pericoloso. Provoca rivolte fra tutti i Giudei sparsi nel mondo. 6 È capo della setta dei Nazareni, ed ha perfino tentato di profanare il tempio, perciò noi lo abbiamo arrestato.
Gli avremmo dato ciò che si merita, 7 ma è intervenuto Lisia, tribuno della guarnigione, e ce lʼha tolto di mano, 8 dicendo che deve essere giudicato secondo la legge romana. Interrogalo tu stesso e saprai direttamente da lui che le nostre accuse rispondono a verità!»
9 Tutti gli altri Giudei si unirono a Tertullo, dicendo che le cose stavano proprio così.
10 Poi fu la volta di Paolo. Il governatore gli fece cenno di alzarsi e parlare.
Paolo cominciò: «So bene, signore, che già da molti anni tu governi questo paese, perciò parlo in mia difesa con maggior fiducia. 11 Non ti ci vuole molto per sapere che sono arrivato a Gerusalemme soltanto dodici giorni fa per adorare Dio nel tempio. 12 Nessuno mi ha mai visto provocare rivolte, né alla sinagoga, né per le strade della città. 13 Perciò questi uomini non possono provarti le cose di cui ora mi accusano.
14 Una cosa, però, devo confessare, e cioè che credendo nella via della salvezza, in quella dottrina che essi chiamano setta, io servo il Dio dei nostri antenati. Io credo a tutte le cose che sono scritte nei libri di Mosè e dei profeti. 15 Proprio come i miei accusatori, credo anchʼio che ci sarà una resurrezione, sia dei giusti che deglʼingiusti. 16 Per questo faccio sempre del mio meglio per mantenere la mia coscienza pulita, sia davanti a Dio che davanti agli uomini.
17 Dopo parecchi anni dʼassenza, sono tornato a Gerusalemme per portare un poʼ di denaro per aiutare i Giudei e per offrire dei sacrifici a Dio. 18 Mentre stavo appunto offrendo questi sacrifici, 19 cʼerano nel tempio alcuni Giudei della provincia dʼAsia; ma non si era riunita gente, né cʼerano disordini di sorta. Eventualmente, sarebbe toccato a loro presentarsi da te per accusarmi, se avevano qualcosa contro di me. 20 Oppure, lo dicano questi che sono qui ora, se il loro tribunale mi ha trovato colpevole di qualche reato. 21 A meno che non mi attribuiscano come colpa lʼunica cosa che ho detto fra loro, e cioè: “Oggi io vengo processato, perché credo alla resurrezione dei morti!”»
22 Felice, che era molto bene informato sulla fede cristiana, rimandò il processo allʼarrivo del tribuno Lisia. «Quando arriverà Lisia, esaminerò a fondo questo caso», disse. 23 Poi ordinò al centurione di portare Paolo in prigione, dando disposizioni, però, di lasciargli qualche libertà e di non impedire ai suoi amici di fargli visita e di portargli dei doni, per rendergli meno dura la prigione.
24 Alcuni giorni dopo, Felice venne con Drusilla, sua moglie, che era giudea. Mandarono a chiamare Paolo e stettero ad ascoltarlo, mentre parlava della fede in Gesù Cristo. 25 Ma, quando Paolo cominciò a parlare del giusto modo di vivere, della necessità di dominarsi e del giudizio futuro di Dio, Felice, tutto spaventato, gli disse:
«Per ora vai, alla prima occasione ti manderò a chiamare di nuovo». 26 Felice sperava che Paolo gli avrebbe dato del denaro, perciò lo mandava spesso a chiamare per parlare con lui. 27 Passarono due anni. Felice ebbe come successore Porcio Festo, ma Felice, per guadagnare il favore dei Giudei, lasciò Paolo in prigione.

Paul’s Trial Before Felix
24 Five days later the high priest Ananias(A) went down to Caesarea with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges(B) against Paul before the governor.(C) 2 When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix: “We have enjoyed a long period of peace under you, and your foresight has brought about reforms in this nation. 3 Everywhere and in every way, most excellent(D) Felix, we acknowledge this with profound gratitude. 4 But in order not to weary you further, I would request that you be kind enough to hear us briefly.
5 “We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots(E) among the Jews(F) all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene(G) sect(H) 6 and even tried to desecrate the temple;(I) so we seized him. [7] [a] 8 By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges we are bringing against him.”
9 The other Jews joined in the accusation,(J) asserting that these things were true.
10 When the governor(K) motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: “I know that for a number of years you have been a judge over this nation; so I gladly make my defense. 11 You can easily verify that no more than twelve days(L) ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. 12 My accusers did not find me arguing with anyone at the temple,(M) or stirring up a crowd(N) in the synagogues or anywhere else in the city. 13 And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making against me.(O) 14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors(P) as a follower of the Way,(Q) which they call a sect.(R) I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,(S) 15 and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection(T) of both the righteous and the wicked.(U) 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear(V) before God and man.
17 “After an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor(W) and to present offerings. 18 I was ceremonially clean(X) when they found me in the temple courts doing this. There was no crowd with me, nor was I involved in any disturbance.(Y) 19 But there are some Jews from the province of Asia,(Z) who ought to be here before you and bring charges if they have anything against me.(AA) 20 Or these who are here should state what crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin— 21 unless it was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”(AB)
22 Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way,(AC) adjourned the proceedings. “When Lysias the commander comes,” he said, “I will decide your case.” 23 He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard(AD) but to give him some freedom(AE) and permit his friends to take care of his needs.(AF)
24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.(AG) 25 As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control(AH) and the judgment(AI) to come, Felix was afraid(AJ) and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.
27 When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus,(AK) but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews,(AL) he left Paul in prison.(AM)
