5 非利士人将掳来的上帝的约柜从以便以谢抬到亚实突城， 2 把它抬进大衮庙，放在大衮神像旁边。 3 第二天早上，亚实突人起来，发现大衮神像倒在耶和华的约柜前，面伏于地，他们就把大衮神像扶起来，放回原处。 4 次日早上起来，他们又发现大衮神像倒在耶和华的约柜前，面伏于地，头和双手都在门槛处折断了，只剩下躯干。 5 因此，大衮的祭司和所有进亚实突 大衮庙的人至今都不踏庙的门槛。 6 耶和华重重地惩罚亚实突及附近村庄的居民，使他们都患上毒疮。 7 亚实突人见此情形，就说：“以色列上帝的约柜不能留在我们这里，因为上帝重重地惩罚我们和我们的大衮神。” 8 亚实突人召集了非利士所有的首领，问他们：“我们如何处理以色列上帝的约柜？”他们答道：“把它送到迦特去。”于是，众人把以色列上帝的约柜送到迦特。 9 约柜抵达迦特的时候，耶和华攻击那城，使那里的男女老少都患了毒疮，全城惊恐不已。 10 于是，他们把约柜送往以革伦。以革伦的人看见上帝的约柜到了，就惊叫道：“他们把以色列上帝的约柜带来是要害死我们和我们的人民！” 11 他们派人召集非利士的首领，说：“把以色列上帝的约柜送回原处吧，免得它杀害我们和我们的人民。”因为上帝重重地惩罚他们，全城都笼罩在死亡的恐惧中。 12 那些没有死的人都饱受毒疮的折磨，城中的哭喊声上达于天。

5 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
6 But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
