28 那时,非利士人聚集军旅,要与以色列人打仗。亚吉对大卫说:“你当知道,你和跟随你的人都要随我出战。” 2 大卫对亚吉说:“仆人所能做的事,王必知道。”亚吉对大卫说:“这样,我立你永远做我的护卫长。”

3 那时撒母耳已经死了,以色列众人为他哀哭,葬他在拉玛,就是在他本城里。扫罗曾在国内不容有交鬼的和行巫术的人。 4 非利士人聚集,来到书念安营,扫罗聚集以色列众人在基利波安营。 5 扫罗看见非利士的军旅就惧怕,心中发颤。 6 扫罗求问耶和华,耶和华却不借梦,或乌陵,或先知回答他。 7 扫罗吩咐臣仆说:“当为我找一个交鬼的妇人,我好去问她。”臣仆说:“在隐多珥有一个交鬼的妇人。”
命招撒母耳
8 于是扫罗改了装,穿上别的衣服,带着两个人,夜里去见那妇人。扫罗说:“求你用交鬼的法术,将我所告诉你的死人,为我招上来。” 9 妇人对他说:“你知道扫罗从国中剪除交鬼的和行巫术的,你为何陷害我的性命,使我死呢?” 10 扫罗向妇人指着耶和华起誓说:“我指着永生的耶和华起誓:你必不因这事受刑。” 11 妇人说:“我为你招谁上来呢?”回答说:“为我招撒母耳上来。” 12 妇人看见撒母耳,就大声呼叫,对扫罗说:“你是扫罗,为什么欺哄我呢?” 13 王对妇人说:“不要惧怕,你看见了什么呢?”妇人对扫罗说:“我看见有神从地里上来。” 14 扫罗说:“他是怎样的形状?”妇人说:“有一个老人上来,身穿长衣。”扫罗知道是撒母耳,就屈身,脸伏于地下拜。

15 撒母耳对扫罗说:“你为什么搅扰我,招我上来呢?”扫罗回答说:“我甚窘急。因为非利士人攻击我,神也离开我,不再借先知或梦回答我。因此请你上来,好指示我应当怎样行。” 16 撒母耳说:“耶和华已经离开你,且与你为敌,你何必问我呢? 17 耶和华照他借我说的话,已经从你手里夺去国权,赐予别人,就是大卫。 18 因你没有听从耶和华的命令,他恼怒亚玛力人,你没有灭绝他们,所以今日耶和华向你这样行。 19 并且耶和华必将你和以色列人交在非利士人的手里,明日你和你众子必与我在一处了。耶和华必将以色列的军兵交在非利士人手里。”
扫罗惊惧而仆
20 扫罗猛然仆倒,挺身在地,因撒母耳的话甚是惧怕。那一昼一夜没有吃什么,就毫无气力。 21 妇人到扫罗面前,见他极其惊恐,对他说:“婢女听从你的话,不顾惜自己的性命,遵从你所吩咐的。 22 现在求你听婢女的话,容我在你面前摆上一点食物,你吃了,可以有气力行路。” 23 扫罗不肯,说:“我不吃。”但他的仆人和妇人再三劝他,他才听了他们的话,从地上起来,坐在床上。 24 妇人急忙将家里的一只肥牛犊宰了,又拿面抟成无酵饼烤了, 25 摆在扫罗和他仆人面前。他们吃完,当夜就起身走了。

28 非利士人召集大军与以色列人交战。亚吉对大卫说:“你应该明白,你和部下要随我一起出战。” 2 大卫答道:“仆人愿意效劳。”亚吉说:“很好!你就终生做我的护卫吧。” 3 那时撒母耳已经死了,以色列举国都为他哀悼,把他葬在他的家乡拉玛。当时,扫罗把所有占卜和行巫术的都逐出了以色列。 4 非利士人集合起来,在书念扎营,扫罗率领以色列军队在基利波扎营。 5 扫罗看见非利士军队声势浩大,感到胆战心惊, 6 就求问耶和华,但耶和华没有借着梦、乌陵或先知回答他。 7 于是,扫罗命令臣仆找一个巫婆来,好求问她。臣仆在隐·多珥找到一个巫婆。
8 扫罗乔装打扮,由两个人陪同乘夜赶到那妇人家里,说:“请你用法术把我要求问的亡灵招上来吧。” 9 妇人对他说:“你知道扫罗铲除了国内占卜的和行巫术的,你为何来陷害我,置我于死地?” 10 扫罗凭耶和华向妇人起誓,说:“我凭永活的耶和华起誓,你必不会因为此事而受到惩罚。” 11 妇人问道:“你想让我招谁上来呢?”扫罗答道:“招撒母耳上来。” 12 妇人看见了撒母耳,就惊叫起来,对扫罗说:“你是扫罗,你为什么骗我呢?” 13 扫罗对她说:“不用害怕,你看见什么了?”妇人说:“我看见一个灵从地里上来。” 14 扫罗说:“他是什么模样?”妇人说:“是个身披长袍的老人。”扫罗知道是撒母耳,便俯伏在地,向他下拜。 15 撒母耳对扫罗说:“你为什么打扰我,招我上来呢?”扫罗答道:“我深陷困境,非利士人与我们交战,上帝也撇弃了我,不再借着先知或梦来回答我。因此,我只好招你上来,好告诉我该怎么办。” 16 撒母耳说:“既然耶和华已经离弃了你,与你为敌,你为什么还来问我? 17 耶和华应验了祂借着我所说的预言,祂已把你的国权夺去,交给了你的同胞大卫。 18 耶和华今天这样对待你,是因为你没有听从祂的吩咐,没有把祂憎恶的亚玛力人灭绝。 19 耶和华必把你和以色列人交在非利士人手里,明天你和你的儿子们必跟我在一起了。耶和华必把以色列的军队交在非利士人手里。”
20 扫罗听了撒母耳的话,顿时吓得浑身僵直,倒在地上,一天一夜没有进食,毫无力气。 21 妇人到扫罗跟前,看见他惊恐万分,就对他说:“婢女冒着生命危险服从你的命令,照你的吩咐做了。 22 现在,请你听婢女的话,让我给你一些食物吃,你好有体力赶路。” 23 扫罗不肯,说:“我不吃。”他的随从和妇人再三劝告,他才同意了,从地上起来坐到床上。 24 妇人连忙宰了家中一只小肥牛,又和面烤了无酵饼, 25 摆在扫罗和他的随从面前,他们吃完后,当天晚上就离开了。

New International Version
28 In those days the Philistines gathered(A) their forces to fight against Israel. Achish said to David, “You must understand that you and your men will accompany me in the army.”
2 David said, “Then you will see for yourself what your servant can do.”
Achish replied, “Very well, I will make you my bodyguard(B) for life.”
Saul and the Medium at Endor
3 Now Samuel was dead,(C) and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah.(D) Saul had expelled(E) the mediums and spiritists(F) from the land.
4 The Philistines assembled and came and set up camp at Shunem,(G) while Saul gathered all Israel and set up camp at Gilboa.(H) 5 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror(I) filled his heart. 6 He inquired(J) of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams(K) or Urim(L) or prophets.(M) 7 Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium,(N) so I may go and inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,(O)” they said.
8 So Saul disguised(P) himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult(Q) a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”
9 But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off(R) the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap(S) for my life to bring about my death?”
10 Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not be punished for this.”
11 Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?”
“Bring up Samuel,” he said.
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me?(T) You are Saul!”
13 The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. What do you see?”
The woman said, “I see a ghostly figure[a] coming up out of the earth.”(U)
14 “What does he look like?” he asked.
“An old man wearing a robe(V) is coming up,” she said.
Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.
15 Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”
“I am in great distress,” Saul said. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed(W) from me. He no longer answers(X) me, either by prophets or by dreams.(Y) So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
16 Samuel said, “Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy? 17 The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn(Z) the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbors—to David. 18 Because you did not obey(AA) the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath(AB) against the Amalekites,(AC) the Lord has done this to you today. 19 The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons(AD) will be with me. The Lord will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.”
20 Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, filled with fear because of Samuel’s words. His strength was gone, for he had eaten nothing all that day and all that night.
21 When the woman came to Saul and saw that he was greatly shaken, she said, “Look, your servant has obeyed you. I took my life(AE) in my hands and did what you told me to do. 22 Now please listen to your servant and let me give you some food so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
23 He refused(AF) and said, “I will not eat.”
But his men joined the woman in urging him, and he listened to them. He got up from the ground and sat on the couch.
24 The woman had a fattened calf(AG) at the house, which she butchered at once. She took some flour, kneaded it and baked bread without yeast. 25 Then she set it before Saul and his men, and they ate. That same night they got up and left.
