5 (A)Гайските мъже поразиха около тридесет и шестима мъже от тях. Прогониха ги от портата си до Сиварим и ги поразиха в надолнището, поради което сърцата на хората се стопиха и станаха като вода.
6 (B)Тогава Исус раздра дрехите си и падна по лице на земята пред Господния ковчег, където той и Израилевите старейшини лежаха до вечерта, и посипаха пръст върху главите си.
7 (C)И Исус каза: Ах! Господи Йехова, защо преведе този народ през Йордан, за да ни предадеш в ръцете на аморейците да ни погубят? О, да бяхме били доволни да си седим оттатък[a] Йордан!

5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

5 who killed about thirty-six(A) of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted in fear(B) and became like water.
6 Then Joshua tore his clothes(C) and fell facedown(D) to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening.(E) The elders of Israel(F) did the same, and sprinkled dust(G) on their heads. 7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why(H) did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us?(I) If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
