And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden,

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.

Then he asked, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

And he said to the man, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’: The ground is cursed because of you. You will eat from it by means of painful labor all the days of your life.

Two of everything—from the birds according to their kinds, from the livestock according to their kinds, and from the animals that crawl on the ground according to their kinds—will come to you so that you can keep them alive.

And Noah did this. He did everything that God had commanded him.

And Noah did everything that the Lord commanded him.

two of each, male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, just as God had commanded him.

Those that entered, male and female of every creature, entered just as God had commanded him. Then the Lord shut him in.

“Come out of the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives with you.

They said to each other, “Come, let’s make oven-fired bricks.” (They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar.)

And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let’s make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered throughout the earth.”

Come, let’s go down there and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

Now the word of the Lord came to him: “This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir.”

He said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?” She replied, “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai.”

I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.

I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”

The Lord said, “I will certainly come back to you in about a year’s time, and your wife Sarah will have a son!” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent behind him.

Is anything impossible for the Lord? At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.”

For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfill to Abraham what he promised him.”

I will go down to see if what they have done justifies the cry that has come up to me. If not, I will find out.”
