Revealing the Bible’s Messianic Mysteries: A Video Interview with Rabbi Jason Sobel

Rabbi Jason SobelMany people don’t understand how each individual book of the Bible—Old Testament and New Testament—cohesively fits together to communicate the overarching message of the Messiah. The late theologian B.B. Warfield said the Old Testament is filled with prophets that predict him, patterns that preview him, and promises that anticipate him. Rabbi Jason Sobel, raised in a Jewish home in New Jersey but now a follower of Yeshua, wants to show the many connections in Scripture that he says are hidden in plain sight.

Bible Gateway interviewed Rabbi Jason Sobel (@RabbiJasonSobel) about his book and video lesson, Mysteries of the Messiah: Unveiling Divine Connections from Genesis to Today (Thomas Nelson, 2021).

The Earth Is the Lord’s!

Earthrise photo by NASAEarth Day is when we’re encouraged to consider our relationship to, and influence on, the environment around us. While many aspects of the environmental movement have gotten enmeshed in controversial politics, the core topic of environmental care is near and dear to Christian teaching. A careful reading of the Bible—and of the Genesis creation account in particular—shows that stewardship of God’s creation is an important part of our lives as Christ-followers.

The following reflection, from our “Stewardship Bible” online daily devotional, discusses the importance of “place” in the biblical narrative, and seems particularly appropriate for Earth Day.

How to Live the Bible — Pray Like This

This is the one-hundred-fifty-third lesson in author and pastor Mel Lawrenz’ How to Live the Bible series. If you know someone or a group who would like to follow along on this journey through Scripture, they can get more info and sign up to receive these essays via email here.

How should we pray? In a teaching as clear and fresh as the blue Sea of Galilee, Jesus said: “This, then, is how you should pray,” and then he just laid it out:

Walking the Path of Shalom

Shauna NiequistBy Shauna Niequist

‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
Numbers 6:24-26

There is a way of living, a way of harmonizing and hitting a balance point, a converging of a thousand balance points and voices, layering together, twisting together, and there are moments when it all clicks into place just for a split second—God and marriage and forgiveness and something deep inside that feels like peace—and that’s the place I’m trying to get to.

Scripture Read At UK’s Prince Philip’s Funeral

Prince PhilipPrince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark), 99, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II, died April 9, 2021 at Windsor Castle in the English county of Berkshire, two months before his 100th birthday, following an undisclosed infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition. His televised funeral April 17 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle was attended by a small group of his close family and friends.

Staying close to the traditional Anglican funeral liturgy, the service’s hymns and readings reflected Philip’s service in the Royal Navy and his environmental work, with a nod to his Greek Orthodox Christian beginnings.

How to Finally Understand the Book of Revelation: An Interview with Margaret Feinberg

Margaret FeinbergWhen did you last consider the Bible’s book of Revelation to be a wellspring of hope? Or have you always seen it as a declaration of judgment amidst confusing imagery? Of all the books of the Bible, Revelation is the one people seem to be the most afraid to study. They describe it in such terms as terrifying, mysterious, apocalyptic, and perplexing.

Bible Gateway interviewed Margaret Feinberg (@mafeinberg) about her teaching video, Revelation: Extravagant Hope (Zondervan, 2021), part of the Beautiful Word Bible Study Series.

Please describe the Beautiful Word Bible Study Series and your role in it.

Margaret Feinberg: When I was approached to teach on the book of Revelation for this series, I responded, “No way—that’s a heavy and scary book.”

The editor said, “Why don’t you take another look—and pray about it, too.” Those words, “Pray about it,” can truly be the worst (smile).

As I dove in, I began to see the book as a true unveiling or revealing of Jesus Christ and the extravagant hope in him. And that’s not just in the opening or final chapters—it’s everywhere! So I’m thrilled to have created the Revelation DVD teachings and workbook.
