How long would it take to read through the entire Bible?

Would you guess 90 days?

The Bible in 90 Days program was designed to help people achieve the spiritually rewarding goal of reading through the entire Bible. While 90 days might seem like a short time for such a long book, the reading works out to just 12 pages a day—still a major commitment, but very manageable for even the busiest of people.

We’re pleased to say that this year we’ve teamed up with the Bible in 90 Days folks to make their challenge available as a reading plan on BibleGateway.com! They’re challenging anyone who’s ever wanted to read the Bible to commit to doing so this summer, from June through August.

Starting on June 1, 2009 you’ll be able to find the reading plan here, online and via RSS and iCal. We’ll post a reminder here on the blog when the start date approaches. In the meantime, you can sign up to take the challenge and find lots of supporting material at Biblein90Days.com.

We hope you’ll consider making this your summer challenge this year. See you on June 1!

Lent reading plan comes to a close

If you’d like to jump in on a new plan now that Lent is over, head over to the reading plans page and pick one that looks interesting. We’ve also got an exciting new reading plan announcement in the works, so stay tuned.

We’d love to hear what you thought of the Lent reading plan. If you followed the plan and have feedback or ideas for how we can improve it for next year, let us know!

Bible Gateway mobile use peaks during Sunday church services

Above: mobile.biblegateway.com use during a typical Sunday (times are EST).

When and where do you use the Bible Gateway mobile site?

For a lot of mobile device users, the answer is “during church”—as evidenced by a jump in visits to mobile.biblegateway.com every Sunday morning. The image above shows mobile site use during this past Sunday; note that the number of people using the mobile site peaks between 9:00am and 1:00pm (EST), when many people are in church.

Does that reflect your mobile Bible Gateway usage?

Get your Bible reading plan via daily email: public beta announcement

Editor’s note on 01/03/2012: The beta is closed and anyone can sign up for the reading plan emails. Head over to the newsletter sign up page and look at the “Reading Plans” section!

The original blog post is below.

You can now receive your Bible reading plan via email!

When we unveiled our new Bible reading plans last month, the only ways to read them were online, via RSS, or with iCal. Today we’re rolling out a public beta test of a new feature: sign up to have your daily Bible reading sent to your inbox, in the version and translation of your choice.

Signing up is easy—go to the daily reading page and click on the Daily Email link on the right:

Select the reading plan and Bible version you want, enter your email address in the field, and click “Subscribe.” You’ll receive a confirmation email shortly; just click on the link provided in that email and you’re done! (Should you wish to unsubscribe at a later date, instructions for doing so are contained at the end of each daily email.)

Please note that the email Bible reading plan feature is still in beta—it’s working, but there might be a few hitches as we fix bugs and improve the service. For that reason, we’re limiting it the first 1000 people to subscribe. As soon as we’re ready to launch, we’ll lift that restriction and open it to everyone. Your feedback is vital, so don’t hesitate to send us your thoughts, bug reports, and general feedback. We’ve answered some major questions about the service in our Bible Gateway FAQ, so check there first if you’ve got a question about the email reading plans.

So go try out an email reading plan—it’s never been easier to read through the Bible!
