For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein; they shall be removed, they shall depart, both man and beast.

A nation from the north has risen up against her. It will decimate her land, and no one will live in it. Every living thing will flee.
For from the north a nation is marching against her that will desolate her land. No one will live there — both humans and animals have fled and gone.
The attack on the Babylonians will come from the north; they and their animals will run, leaving the land empty.

A nation has come up against her out of the north. It will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. Both man and animal have wandered away. They are gone.

A nation from the north will attack Babylon [C Persia] and make it like an ·empty desert [desolation]. No one will live there; both people and animals will ·run away [flee].”

The Message of God through the prophet Jeremiah on Babylon, land of the Chaldeans: “Get the word out to the nations! Preach it! Go public with this, broadcast it far and wide: Babylon taken, god-Bel hanging his head in shame, god-Marduk exposed as a fraud. All her god-idols shuffling in shame, all her play-gods exposed as cheap frauds. For a nation will come out of the north to attack her, reduce her cities to rubble. Empty of life—no animals, no people— not a sound, not a movement, not a breath.

For a nation comes up against her out of the land of the north —it will desolate her land. No one will dwell there— they have fled, gone, both man and beast.”
Now it is Babylon’s turn to be attacked from the north; another nation will destroy her land. No one will live there; both man and beast will run away.

For a folk shall ascend from the north against it, which folk shall set the land thereof into wilderness; and none shall be that shall dwell therein, from man unto beast; and they be moved, and went away. For come up against her hath a nation from the north, It maketh her land become a desolation, And there is not an inhabitant in it. From man even unto beast, They have moved, they have gone.
