²⁴ And Abraham said, “I will swear.”

⁵³ The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.” So Jacob swore by the ^(A)Fear of his father Isaac, ⁵⁴ and Jacob offered a sacrifice in the hill country and called ^(B)his kinsmen to eat bread. They ate bread and spent the night in the hill country.

¹⁵ And Joshua ^(A)made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.

¹⁹ But all the leaders said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them.

²² And David swore this to Saul. Then Saul went home, but David and his men went up ^(A)to the stronghold.

³⁵ Then all the people came ^(A)to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day. But David swore, saying, ^(B)“God do so to me and more also, if I taste bread or anything else ^(C)till the sun goes down!”

Solomon Anointed King

²⁸ Then King David answered, “Call Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king's presence and stood before the king. ²⁹ And the king swore, saying, ^(A)“As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity, ^30 (B)as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ even so will I do this day.”

²³ But ^(A)I call God to witness against me—it was ^(B)to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth.
