⁹ And God said to Abraham: “As for you, ^(A)you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. ¹⁰ This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: ^(B)Every male child among you shall be circumcised; ¹¹ and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be ^(C)a sign of the covenant between Me and you.

² For Sarah ^(A)conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, ^(B)at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—^(C)Isaac.^{[a] 4} Then Abraham ^(D)circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, ^(E)as God had commanded him.

²⁶ Afterward his brother came out, and ^(A)his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so ^(B)his name was called ^[a]Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

The Children of Jacob

³¹ When the Lord ^(A)saw that Leah was ^[a]unloved, He ^(B)opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

⁵ And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.

¹⁸ And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name ^[a]Ben-Oni; but his father called him ^[b]Benjamin. ¹⁹ So ^(A)Rachel died and was buried on the way to ^(B)Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). ²⁰ And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave ^(C)to this day.

²¹ Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond ^(D)the tower of Eder. ²² And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and ^(E)lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it.

Jacob’s Twelve Sons

Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: ²³ the sons of Leah were ^(F)Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;
