³ But you, Lord, are a shield^(C) around me,
    my glory, the One who lifts my head high.^(D)
4 I call out to the Lord,^(E)
    and he answers me from his holy mountain.^(F)

⁵ I lie down and sleep;^(G)
    I wake again,^(H) because the Lord sustains me.
⁶ I will not fear^(I) though tens of thousands
    assail me on every side.^(J)

⁷ Arise,^(K) Lord!
    Deliver me,^(L) my God!
Strike^(M) all my enemies on the jaw;
    break the teeth^(N) of the wicked.

⁸ From the Lord comes deliverance.^(O)
    May your blessing^(P) be on your people.

⁴ For the word of the Lord is right^(H) and true;^(I)
    he is faithful^(J) in all he does.
⁵ The Lord loves righteousness and justice;^(K)
    the earth is full of his unfailing love.^(L)

⁶ By the word^(M) of the Lord the heavens were made,^(N)
    their starry host^(O) by the breath of his mouth.
⁷ He gathers the waters^(P) of the sea into jars^[a];^(Q)
    he puts the deep into storehouses.
⁸ Let all the earth fear the Lord;^(R)
    let all the people of the world^(S) revere him.^(T)
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded,^(U) and it stood firm.

¹⁰ The Lord foils^(V) the plans^(W) of the nations;^(X)
    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
¹¹ But the plans of the Lord stand firm^(Y) forever,
    the purposes^(Z) of his heart through all generations.

¹² Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,^(AA)
    the people he chose^(AB) for his inheritance.^(AC)
13 From heaven the Lord looks down^(AD)
    and sees all mankind;^(AE)
14 from his dwelling place^(AF) he watches
    all who live on earth—
¹⁵ he who forms^(AG) the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.^(AH)

¹⁶ No king is saved by the size of his army;^(AI)
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
¹⁷ A horse^(AJ) is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
¹⁸ But the eyes^(AK) of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,^(AL)
19 to deliver them from death^(AM)
    and keep them alive in famine.^(AN)

²⁰ We wait^(AO) in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
²¹ In him our hearts rejoice,^(AP)
    for we trust in his holy name.^(AQ)
22 May your unfailing love^(AR) be with us, Lord,
    even as we put our hope in you.

² I have seen you in the sanctuary^(C)
    and beheld your power and your glory.^(D)
3 Because your love is better than life,^(E)
    my lips will glorify you.
⁴ I will praise you as long as I live,^(F)
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.^(G)
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;^(H)
    with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

⁶ On my bed I remember you;
    I think of you through the watches of the night.^(I)
7 Because you are my help,^(J)
    I sing in the shadow of your wings.^(K)
8 I cling to you;^(L)
    your right hand upholds me.^(M)

⁹ Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;^(N)
    they will go down to the depths of the earth.^(O)
10 They will be given over to the sword^(P)
    and become food for jackals.^(Q)

¹¹ But the king will rejoice in God;
    all who swear by God will glory in him,^(R)
    while the mouths of liars will be silenced.^(S)

³ The seas^(H) have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;^(I)
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.^(J)
4 Mightier than the thunder^(K) of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers^(L) of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.^(M)

⁵ Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
    holiness^(N) adorns your house^(O)
    for endless days.

³ Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
    for we have endured no end of contempt.
⁴ We have endured no end
    of ridicule from the arrogant,
    of contempt from the proud.

³ Let love and faithfulness^(E) never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.^(F)
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.^(G)

⁵ Trust in the Lord^(H) with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
⁶ in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths^(I) straight.^[a](J)

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes;^(K)
    fear the Lord^(L) and shun evil.^(M)
8 This will bring health to your body^(N)
    and nourishment to your bones.^(O)

⁹ Honor the Lord with your wealth,
    with the firstfruits^(P) of all your crops;
¹⁰ then your barns will be filled^(Q) to overflowing,
    and your vats will brim over with new wine.^(R)

¹¹ My son,^(S) do not despise the Lord’s discipline,^(T)
    and do not resent his rebuke,
¹² because the Lord disciplines those he loves,^(U)
    as a father the son he delights in.^[b](V)

¹³ Blessed are those who find wisdom,
    those who gain understanding,
¹⁴ for she is more profitable than silver
    and yields better returns than gold.^(W)
15 She is more precious than rubies;^(X)
    nothing you desire can compare with her.^(Y)
16 Long life is in her right hand;^(Z)
    in her left hand are riches and honor.^(AA)
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
    and all her paths are peace.^(AB)
18 She is a tree of life^(AC) to those who take hold of her;
    those who hold her fast will be blessed.^(AD)

¹⁹ By wisdom^(AE) the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,^(AF)
    by understanding he set the heavens^(AG) in place;
²⁰ by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
    and the clouds let drop the dew.

²¹ My son,^(AH) do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,^(AI)
    preserve sound judgment and discretion;
²² they will be life for you,^(AJ)
    an ornament to grace your neck.^(AK)
23 Then you will go on your way in safety,^(AL)
    and your foot will not stumble.^(AM)
24 When you lie down,^(AN) you will not be afraid;^(AO)
    when you lie down, your sleep^(AP) will be sweet.
²⁵ Have no fear of sudden disaster
    or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
²⁶ for the Lord will be at your side^(AQ)
    and will keep your foot^(AR) from being snared.^(AS)

²⁷ Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
    when it is in your power to act.
²⁸ Do not say to your neighbor,
    “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
    when you already have it with you.^(AT)
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
    who lives trustfully near you.^(AU)
30 Do not accuse anyone for no reason—
    when they have done you no harm.

³¹ Do not envy^(AV) the violent
    or choose any of their ways.

³² For the Lord detests the perverse^(AW)
    but takes the upright into his confidence.^(AX)
33 The Lord’s curse^(AY) is on the house of the wicked,^(AZ)
    but he blesses the home of the righteous.^(BA)
34 He mocks^(BB) proud mockers^(BC)
    but shows favor to the humble^(BD) and oppressed.
³⁵ The wise inherit honor,
    but fools get only shame.
