39 He (A)spread a cloud for a covering,
    and fire to give light by night.
40 (B)They asked, and he (C)brought quail,
    and gave them (D)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (E)water gushed out;
    it flowed through (F)the desert like a river.
42 For he (G)remembered his holy promise,
    and (H)Abraham, his servant.

43 So he brought his people out with joy,
    his (I)chosen ones with (J)singing.
44 And he (K)gave them the lands of the nations,
    and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (L)keep his statutes
    and (M)observe his laws.
