23 Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.(A)
24 You guide(B) me with your counsel,(C)
    and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?(D)
    And earth has nothing I desire besides you.(E)
26 My flesh and my heart(F) may fail,(G)
    but God is the strength(H) of my heart
    and my portion(I) forever.

27 Those who are far from you will perish;(J)
    you destroy all who are unfaithful(K) to you.
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.(L)
    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;(M)
    I will tell of all your deeds.(N)

Psalm 74

A maskil[a] of Asaph.

O God, why have you rejected(O) us forever?(P)
    Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?(Q)
Remember the nation you purchased(R) long ago,(S)
    the people of your inheritance,(T) whom you redeemed(U)
    Mount Zion,(V) where you dwelt.(W)
Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,(X)
    all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.

Your foes roared(Y) in the place where you met with us;
    they set up their standards(Z) as signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes
    to cut through a thicket of trees.(AA)
They smashed all the carved(AB) paneling
    with their axes and hatchets.
They burned your sanctuary to the ground;
    they defiled(AC) the dwelling place(AD) of your Name.(AE)
They said in their hearts, “We will crush(AF) them completely!”
    They burned(AG) every place where God was worshiped in the land.
