⁴ May all the kings of the earth^(J) praise you, Lord,
    when they hear what you have decreed.

You stretch out your hand^(Q) against the anger of my foes;^(R)
    with your right hand^(S) you save me.^(T)
8 The Lord will vindicate^(U) me;
    your love, Lord, endures forever^(V)—
    do not abandon^(W) the works of your hands.^(X)

⁷ Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee^(AI) from your presence?
⁸ If I go up to the heavens,^(AJ) you are there;
    if I make my bed^(AK) in the depths, you are there.
⁹ If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
¹⁰ even there your hand will guide me,^(AL)
    your right hand^(AM) will hold me fast.
¹¹ If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
¹² even the darkness will not be dark^(AN) to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

¹³ For you created my inmost being;^(AO)
    you knit me together^(AP) in my mother’s womb.^(AQ)
14 I praise you^(AR) because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,^(AS)
    I know that full well.
¹⁵ My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made^(AT) in the secret place,
    when I was woven together^(AU) in the depths of the earth.^(AV)
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained^(AW) for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
¹⁷ How precious to me are your thoughts,^[a](AX) God!^(AY)
    How vast is the sum of them!
¹⁸ Were I to count them,^(AZ)
    they would outnumber the grains of sand^(BA)—
    when I awake,^(BB) I am still with you.

¹⁹ If only you, God, would slay the wicked!^(BC)
    Away from me,^(BD) you who are bloodthirsty!^(BE)
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
    your adversaries^(BF) misuse your name.^(BG)
21 Do I not hate those^(BH) who hate you, Lord,
    and abhor^(BI) those who are in rebellion against you?
²² I have nothing but hatred for them;
    I count them my enemies.^(BJ)
23 Search me,^(BK) God, and know my heart;^(BL)
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
²⁴ See if there is any offensive way^(BM) in me,
    and lead me^(BN) in the way everlasting.

⁴ Keep me safe,^(BU) Lord, from the hands of the wicked;^(BV)
    protect me from the violent,
    who devise ways to trip my feet.
⁵ The arrogant have hidden a snare^(BW) for me;
    they have spread out the cords of their net^(BX)
    and have set traps^(BY) for me along my path.

⁶ I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”^(BZ)
    Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.^(CA)
7 Sovereign Lord,^(CB) my strong deliverer,
    you shield my head in the day of battle.
⁸ Do not grant the wicked^(CC) their desires, Lord;
    do not let their plans succeed.

⁹ Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
    may the mischief of their lips engulf them.^(CD)
10 May burning coals fall on them;
    may they be thrown into the fire,^(CE)
    into miry pits, never to rise.
¹¹ May slanderers not be established in the land;
    may disaster hunt down the violent.^(CF)

¹² I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor^(CG)
    and upholds the cause^(CH) of the needy.^(CI)
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name,^(CJ)
    and the upright will live^(CK) in your presence.^(CL)

³ Set a guard over my mouth,^(CR) Lord;
    keep watch over the door of my lips.^(CS)
4 Do not let my heart^(CT) be drawn to what is evil
    so that I take part in wicked deeds^(CU)
along with those who are evildoers;
    do not let me eat their delicacies.^(CV)

⁵ Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness;
    let him rebuke me^(CW)—that is oil on my head.^(CX)
My head will not refuse it,
    for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.

⁶ Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs,^(CY)
    and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
⁷ They will say, “As one plows^(CZ) and breaks up the earth,^(DA)
    so our bones have been scattered at the mouth^(DB) of the grave.”

⁸ But my eyes are fixed^(DC) on you, Sovereign Lord;
    in you I take refuge^(DD)—do not give me over to death.
⁹ Keep me safe^(DE) from the traps set by evildoers,^(DF)
    from the snares^(DG) they have laid for me.
¹⁰ Let the wicked fall^(DH) into their own nets,
    while I pass by in safety.^(DI)

³ When my spirit grows faint^(DO) within me,
    it is you who watch over my way.
In the path where I walk
    people have hidden a snare for me.
⁴ Look and see, there is no one at my right hand;
    no one is concerned for me.
I have no refuge;^(DP)
    no one cares^(DQ) for my life.

⁵ I cry to you, Lord;
    I say, “You are my refuge,^(DR)
    my portion^(DS) in the land of the living.”^(DT)

⁶ Listen to my cry,^(DU)
    for I am in desperate need;^(DV)
rescue me^(DW) from those who pursue me,
    for they are too strong^(DX) for me.
⁷ Set me free from my prison,^(DY)
    that I may praise your name.^(DZ)
Then the righteous will gather about me
    because of your goodness to me.^(EA)

⁷ Answer me quickly,^(EM) Lord;
    my spirit fails.^(EN)
Do not hide your face^(EO) from me
    or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
⁸ Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,^(EP)
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way^(EQ) I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.^(ER)
9 Rescue me^(ES) from my enemies,^(ET) Lord,
    for I hide myself in you.
¹⁰ Teach me^(EU) to do your will,
    for you are my God;^(EV)
may your good Spirit
    lead^(EW) me on level ground.^(EX)

¹¹ For your name’s sake,^(EY) Lord, preserve my life;^(EZ)
    in your righteousness,^(FA) bring me out of trouble.
¹² In your unfailing love, silence my enemies;^(FB)
    destroy all my foes,^(FC)
    for I am your servant.^(FD)

³ Lord, what are human beings^(FJ) that you care for them,
    mere mortals that you think of them?
⁴ They are like a breath;^(FK)
    their days are like a fleeting shadow.^(FL)

⁵ Part your heavens,^(FM) Lord, and come down;^(FN)
    touch the mountains, so that they smoke.^(FO)
6 Send forth lightning^(FP) and scatter^(FQ) the enemy;
    shoot your arrows^(FR) and rout them.
⁷ Reach down your hand from on high;^(FS)
    deliver me and rescue me^(FT)
from the mighty waters,^(FU)
    from the hands of foreigners^(FV)
8 whose mouths are full of lies,^(FW)
    whose right hands^(FX) are deceitful.^(FY)

⁹ I will sing a new song^(FZ) to you, my God;
    on the ten-stringed lyre^(GA) I will make music to you,
¹⁰ to the One who gives victory to kings,^(GB)
    who delivers his servant David.^(GC)

From the deadly sword^{(GD) 11} deliver me;
    rescue me^(GE) from the hands of foreigners^(GF)
whose mouths are full of lies,^(GG)
    whose right hands are deceitful.^(GH)

¹² Then our sons in their youth
    will be like well-nurtured plants,^(GI)
and our daughters will be like pillars^(GJ)
    carved to adorn a palace.
¹³ Our barns will be filled^(GK)
    with every kind of provision.
Our sheep will increase by thousands,
    by tens of thousands in our fields;
¹⁴     our oxen^(GL) will draw heavy loads.^[h]
There will be no breaching of walls,^(GM)
    no going into captivity,
    no cry of distress in our streets.^(GN)
15 Blessed is the people^(GO) of whom this is true;
    blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.

³ Great^(GU) is the Lord and most worthy of praise;^(GV)
    his greatness no one can fathom.^(GW)
4 One generation^(GX) commends your works to another;
    they tell^(GY) of your mighty acts.^(GZ)
5 They speak of the glorious splendor^(HA) of your majesty—
    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.^[j](HB)
6 They tell^(HC) of the power of your awesome works—^(HD)
    and I will proclaim^(HE) your great deeds.^(HF)
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness^(HG)
    and joyfully sing^(HH) of your righteousness.^(HI)

⁸ The Lord is gracious and compassionate,^(HJ)
    slow to anger and rich in love.^(HK)

⁹ The Lord is good^(HL) to all;
    he has compassion^(HM) on all he has made.
¹⁰ All your works praise you,^(HN) Lord;
    your faithful people extol^(HO) you.^(HP)
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom^(HQ)
    and speak of your might,^(HR)
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts^(HS)
    and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.^(HT)
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,^(HU)
    and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy^(HV) in all he promises^(HW)
    and faithful in all he does.^[k]
14 The Lord upholds^(HX) all who fall
    and lifts up all^(HY) who are bowed down.^(HZ)
15 The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food^(IA) at the proper time.
¹⁶ You open your hand
    and satisfy the desires^(IB) of every living thing.

¹⁷ The Lord is righteous^(IC) in all his ways
    and faithful in all he does.^(ID)
18 The Lord is near^(IE) to all who call on him,^(IF)
    to all who call on him in truth.
¹⁹ He fulfills the desires^(IG) of those who fear him;^(IH)
    he hears their cry^(II) and saves them.^(IJ)
20 The Lord watches over^(IK) all who love him,^(IL)
    but all the wicked he will destroy.^(IM)

²¹ My mouth will speak^(IN) in praise of the Lord.
    Let every creature^(IO) praise his holy name^(IP)
    for ever and ever.

Praise the Lord,^(IQ) my soul.

² I will praise the Lord all my life;^(IR)
    I will sing praise^(IS) to my God as long as I live.^(IT)
3 Do not put your trust in princes,^(IU)
    in human beings,^(IV) who cannot save.
⁴ When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;^(IW)
    on that very day their plans come to nothing.^(IX)
5 Blessed are those^(IY) whose help^(IZ) is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord their God.

⁶ He is the Maker of heaven^(JA) and earth,
    the sea, and everything in them—
    he remains faithful^(JB) forever.
⁷ He upholds^(JC) the cause of the oppressed^(JD)
    and gives food to the hungry.^(JE)
The Lord sets prisoners free,^(JF)
8     the Lord gives sight^(JG) to the blind,^(JH)
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,^(JI)
    the Lord loves the righteous.^(JJ)
9 The Lord watches over the foreigner^(JK)
    and sustains the fatherless^(JL) and the widow,^(JM)
    but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

¹⁰ The Lord reigns^(JN) forever,
    your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

How good it is to sing praises to our God,
    how pleasant^(JO) and fitting to praise him!^(JP)

² The Lord builds up Jerusalem;^(JQ)
    he gathers the exiles^(JR) of Israel.
³ He heals the brokenhearted^(JS)
    and binds up their wounds.^(JT)
4 He determines the number of the stars^(JU)
    and calls them each by name.
⁵ Great is our Lord^(JV) and mighty in power;^(JW)
    his understanding has no limit.^(JX)
6 The Lord sustains the humble^(JY)
    but casts the wicked^(JZ) to the ground.

⁷ Sing to the Lord^(KA) with grateful praise;^(KB)
    make music^(KC) to our God on the harp.^(KD)

⁸ He covers the sky with clouds;^(KE)
    he supplies the earth with rain^(KF)
    and makes grass grow^(KG) on the hills.
⁹ He provides food^(KH) for the cattle
    and for the young ravens^(KI) when they call.

¹⁰ His pleasure is not in the strength^(KJ) of the horse,^(KK)
    nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
¹¹ the Lord delights^(KL) in those who fear him,^(KM)
    who put their hope^(KN) in his unfailing love.^(KO)

¹² Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;^(KP)
    praise your God, Zion.

¹³ He strengthens the bars of your gates^(KQ)
    and blesses your people^(KR) within you.
¹⁴ He grants peace^(KS) to your borders
    and satisfies you^(KT) with the finest of wheat.^(KU)

¹⁵ He sends his command^(KV) to the earth;
    his word runs^(KW) swiftly.
¹⁶ He spreads the snow^(KX) like wool
    and scatters the frost^(KY) like ashes.
¹⁷ He hurls down his hail^(KZ) like pebbles.
    Who can withstand his icy blast?
¹⁸ He sends his word^(LA) and melts them;
    he stirs up his breezes,^(LB) and the waters flow.

¹⁹ He has revealed his word^(LC) to Jacob,^(LD)
    his laws and decrees^(LE) to Israel.
²⁰ He has done this for no other nation;^(LF)
    they do not know^(LG) his laws.^[n]

Praise the Lord.^(LH)

Praise the Lord from the heavens;^(LJ)
    praise him in the heights above.
² Praise him, all his angels;^(LK)
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.^(LL)
3 Praise him, sun^(LM) and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
⁴ Praise him, you highest heavens^(LN)
    and you waters above the skies.^(LO)

⁵ Let them praise the name^(LP) of the Lord,
    for at his command^(LQ) they were created,
⁶ and he established them for ever and ever—
    he issued a decree^(LR) that will never pass away.

⁷ Praise the Lord^(LS) from the earth,
    you great sea creatures^(LT) and all ocean depths,^(LU)
8 lightning and hail,^(LV) snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,^(LW)
9 you mountains and all hills,^(LX)
    fruit trees and all cedars,
¹⁰ wild animals^(LY) and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
¹¹ kings^(LZ) of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
¹² young men and women,
    old men and children.

¹³ Let them praise the name of the Lord,^(MA)
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor^(MB) is above the earth and the heavens.^(MC)
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,^[p](MD)
    the praise^(ME) of all his faithful servants,^(MF)
    of Israel, the people close to his heart.^(MG)

Praise the Lord.

Sing to the Lord a new song,^(MI)
    his praise in the assembly^(MJ) of his faithful people.

² Let Israel rejoice^(MK) in their Maker;^(ML)
    let the people of Zion be glad in their King.^(MM)
3 Let them praise his name with dancing^(MN)
    and make music to him with timbrel and harp.^(MO)
4 For the Lord takes delight^(MP) in his people;
    he crowns the humble with victory.^(MQ)
5 Let his faithful people rejoice^(MR) in this honor
    and sing for joy on their beds.^(MS)

⁶ May the praise of God be in their mouths^(MT)
    and a double-edged^(MU) sword in their hands,^(MV)
7 to inflict vengeance^(MW) on the nations
    and punishment^(MX) on the peoples,
⁸ to bind their kings with fetters,^(MY)
    their nobles with shackles of iron,^(MZ)
9 to carry out the sentence written against them—^(NA)
    this is the glory of all his faithful people.^(NB)

Praise the Lord.

Praise God in his sanctuary;^(ND)
    praise him in his mighty heavens.^(NE)
2 Praise him for his acts of power;^(NF)
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.^(NG)
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,^(NH)
    praise him with the harp and lyre,^(NI)
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,^(NJ)
    praise him with the strings^(NK) and pipe,^(NL)
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,^(NM)
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

⁶ Let everything^(NN) that has breath praise the Lord.
