⁶ But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of ^(A)Herodias danced ^[a]before them and pleased ^(B)Herod,

¹⁷ For Herod himself had sent men and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of ^(A)Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.

¹⁹ And ^(A)Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death, and could not do so;

²² and when the daughter of ^(A)Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and ^[a]his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

¹⁹ But when ^(A)Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him regarding ^(B)Herodias, his brother’s wife, and regarding all the evil things which ^(C)Herod had done, ²⁰ Herod also added this to them all: ^(D)he locked John up in prison.

Jesus Is Baptized

^21 (E)Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized, and while He was ^(F)praying, heaven was opened, ²² and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven: “^(G)You are My beloved Son, in You I am well pleased.”
