36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘(A)You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [a]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘(B)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 (C)Upon these two commandments [b]hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”

41 (D)Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: 42 “What do you think about the [c]Christ? Whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “(E)The son of David.” 43 He *said to them, “Then [d]how does David [e](F)in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,

44 (G)The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at My right hand,
Until I put Your enemies under Your feet”’?

45 Therefore, if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ [f]how is He his son?” 46 (H)No one was able to offer Him a word in answer, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him any more questions.

41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”

“The son of David,”(E) they replied.

43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,

44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
    under your feet.”’[c](F)

45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” 46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.(G)
