²⁴ Before his coming to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.^(A)

⁴ Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance,^(A) telling the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”^(B)

²⁰ Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance.^(A)
