³⁹ Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors’^(A) sins they will waste away.^(B)

⁴⁰ “‘But if they will confess^(C) their sins^(D) and the sins of their ancestors^(E)—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, ⁴¹ which made me hostile^(F) toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts^(G) are humbled^(H) and they pay^(I) for their sin, ⁴² I will remember my covenant with Jacob^(J) and my covenant with Isaac^(K) and my covenant with Abraham,^(L) and I will remember the land. ⁴³ For the land will be deserted^(M) by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected^(N) my laws and abhorred my decrees.^{(O) 44} Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies,^(P) I will not reject them or abhor^(Q) them so as to destroy them completely,^(R) breaking my covenant^(S) with them. I am the Lord their God. ⁴⁵ But for their sake I will remember^(T) the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt^(U) in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord.’”

Prosperity After Turning to the Lord

30 When all these blessings and curses^(A) I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,^{(B) 2} and when you and your children return^(C) to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart^(D) and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, ³ then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes^[a](E) and have compassion^(F) on you and gather^(G) you again from all the nations where he scattered^(H) you.^(I)

⁴ But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him,^(A) and he was found by them.
