13 According to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, (A)Kiriath-arba, that is, (B)Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14 And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, (C)Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15 And he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir. (D)Now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher. 16 And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 (E)And Othniel the son of Kenaz, (F)the brother of Caleb, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.

13 In accordance with the Lord’s command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb(A) son of Jephunneh a portion in Judah—Kiriath Arba(B), that is, Hebron.(C) (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)(D) 14 From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites(E)—Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai,(F) the sons of Anak.(G) 15 From there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah(H) in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” 17 Othniel(I) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.
