Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid; and he (A)entered the [a]Praetorium again and *said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But (B)Jesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate *said to Him, “Are you not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” 11 Jesus answered him, (C)You would have no authority [b]over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason (D)the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.” 12 As a result of this, Pilate [c]made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying, “(E)If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king [d]opposes Caesar!”

When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace.(A) “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.(B) 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.(C) Therefore the one who handed me over to you(D) is guilty of a greater sin.”

12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king(E) opposes Caesar.”
