The Triumphal Entry

12 The next day (A)the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of (B)palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, (C)“Hosanna! Blessed is (D)he who comes in the name of the Lord, even (E)the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

15 (F)“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
    sitting on a donkey's colt!”

16 (G)His disciples did not understand these things at first, but (H)when Jesus was glorified, then (I)they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 (J)The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him (K)was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, (L)“You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, (M)the world has gone after him.”

Some Greeks Seek Jesus

20 Now (N)among those who went up to worship at the feast were some (O)Greeks. 21 So these came to (P)Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went and told (Q)Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, (R)“The hour has come (S)for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, (T)unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 (U)Whoever loves his life loses it, and (V)whoever (W)hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, he must (X)follow me; and (Y)where I am, there will my servant be also. (Z)If anyone serves me, (AA)the Father will honor him.

The Son of Man Must Be Lifted Up

27 (AB)“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, (AC)save me from (AD)this hour’? But (AE)for this purpose I have come to (AF)this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then (AG)a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, (AH)“An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered, (AI)“This voice has come for your sake, not mine. 31 (AJ)Now is the judgment of this world; now will (AK)the ruler of this world (AL)be cast out. 32 And I, (AM)when I am lifted up from the earth, (AN)will draw (AO)all people to myself.” 33 He said this (AP)to show by what kind of death he was going to die. 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that (AQ)the Christ remains forever. How can you say that (AR)the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, (AS)“The light is among you (AT)for a little while longer. (AU)Walk while you have the light, lest darkness (AV)overtake you. (AW)The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become (AX)sons of light.”

The Unbelief of the People

When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(A)

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches(B) and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna![a]

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b](C)

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”(D)

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
    see, your king is coming,
    seated on a donkey’s colt.”[c](E)

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this.(F) Only after Jesus was glorified(G) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him(H) when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign,(I) went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”(J)

Jesus Predicts His Death

20 Now there were some Greeks(K) among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida(L) in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

23 Jesus replied, “The hour(M) has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.(N) 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies,(O) it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it(P) for eternal life.(Q) 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.(R) My Father will honor the one who serves me.

27 “Now my soul is troubled,(S) and what shall I say? ‘Father,(T) save me from this hour’?(U) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven,(V) “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit,(W) not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world;(X) now the prince of this world(Y) will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[d] from the earth,(Z) will draw all people to myself.”(AA) 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.(AB)

34 The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law(AC) that the Messiah will remain forever,(AD) so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man(AE) must be lifted up’?(AF) Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”

35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light(AG) just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light,(AH) before darkness overtakes you.(AI) Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. 36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”(AJ) When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.(AK)

12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
